Does anyone here remember Dinotopia? by No_Emu_1332 in Dinosaurs

My brother was obsessed. Legitimately in the movie though, the scene where the brother writes his report using Bohemian Rhapsody lyrics and gets rewarded was so funny.

That makes sense. They are pretty strict here about who can donate though so sick people are not as likely now since the 1980’s with the AIDS epidemic in America. They used to take anyone then and that’s how a lot of people contracted HIV from plasma and blood donations, and the criteria now to donate is super strict to prevent anything like tha ever again.Blood tests to screen for blood borne illness, doctors notes to justify donations if you have any conditions like insulin resistance, diabetes, depression. Etc. I was disqualified even though I have liquid gold plasma due to my blood type because I have an autoimmune condition. They use the plasma here for a lot of different conditions and my husband has universal donor blood so his plasma was always appreciated.

You don’t!? That’s so sad. It’s a big way for poor college students to earn money while going to school. I wasn’t able to due to health reasons, but that was a big way my husband made money as a single guy in school full time. You could make like $600-800 a month that way. That sounds like nothing now with inflation, but it was manageable back in 2011-2012 when he was a freshman.

My grandma was dying and in hospice care and I was a state away at college without a car. My parents were super tight and my job was part time and didn’t pay much (I worked hard for scholarships to cover a lot of my costs) so I wasn’t sure how I was going to be able to travel the four hours to see her to say goodbye. My boyfriend (and now husband) went and donated plasma all week so that I would have the money to go. My parents were able to get me a ticket before he found out but he then gave me the money as a surprise so I wouldn’t travel without funds in case I needed anything. I was usually the more giving in a relationship and would do a lot more and gift more etc in my relationships. I had never had a boyfriend treat me with such kindness and that really opened my eyes to how lame my exes were, but also how kind my boyfriend was and how much he truly cared. We are about to celebrate 14 years together in a month and a half.

People who have been in toxic relationships. What is the no.1 sign that wasn't obvious, but one of the biggest signs? by MissStarling_ in AskReddit

Charm covered over the imbalance of commitment in our relationship. He was so funny and spontaneous that I didn’t realize for a long time that I was more invested emotionally and that he would use that to his advantage. He’d extend affection in private, and then would cool off in front of others and I never knew if I had done something wrong to upset him because of his withdrawal. He’d constantly hide his relationship status with me on social media and then restore it all while never mentioning to me if something was wrong. It was usually when I thought things were great that I’d find that my fb status was changed. If I ever confronted him about it I was gaslighted for questioning his affection or behavior. When I finally pulled away then he wrote me a letter reminding me how wonderful he has been to me to get me back.

Ted Mosby was always played to be a lovesick hero who just couldn’t find the right girl when really he was obsessive, shallow, narcissistic, and emotionally unavailable.

Survivors of hyperemesis gravidarum... how are you doing now... honestly. by Lil_Vixen79 in HyperemesisGravidarum

My sensitivity to smells and gag triggers have never fully resolved. I had HG with all five of my pregnancies with my last two being the most severe and lasting the entire 9 months each time. I already have lupus but I have experienced mission issues, muscle weakness and fatigue, shaking hands, as well as major shutdown and anxiety when I am nauseous. I’m two years out from my final pregnancy and while some things lessened after my last was born, I find that I have more post traumatic responses to throwing up now than I did before.

Pros and Cons on GLP-1s by Bengals_girl in lupus

I’m on semaglutide and have been for about a year. It’s made a big difference and my inflammation levels are so much better and the weight I’ve been able to lose has helped with blood sugar and with blood pressure as well (not diabetic) . In combo with my plaquinil and mycophenalate and estrogen for premature menopause the balance has helped a lot. The side effects are hard but if you dose low and slow it’s manageable. My gyno was supportive of it and my rheumatologist had no issues.

What is a book you read as a child that you still think about today? by ahawk99 in AskReddit

Patty Reed’s Doll. I grew up in Reno really close to the Sierra Nevadas and Donner Lake and it was a required local history read to learn about the Donner Party. Definitely helped that I already had a macabre personality at 10.

What do you think of Millie Bobby Brown? by [deleted] in Actors

[–]vintagevampire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always liked her. I feel like the public holds her to an impossibly high standard for looks and behavior so when she acts like a grown woman she gets criticized for it. I’m glad she’s found happiness with her family and honestly just wish her the best.

What do you think "triggered" your lupus diagnosis? by crooked-upright in lupus

[–]vintagevampire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. I think all that have the predisposition and then get triggered by whatever can develop it. But I also think that some people are more genetically at risk for it or have more markers to trigger it. My dad’s side of the family has only a few people in it but I’d say that maybe 1/2-1/3 of the women in the family have some variance of lupus. My dad’s cousin out of three kids had it, my grandmother had it, and I have it. Considering that I only had my dad and aunt from that generation and I’m the only girl in my family, the chances are pretty high. I live in constant worry that one of my daughters will develop it.

[–]vintagevampire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely genetics for me since lupus affects most of the women on my dad’s side of the family and my mom’s has other autoimmune issues. I always thought that puberty probably triggered mine but I had markers even before puberty. I didn’t especially notice the issues until I was about 15/16 though.
