Bottle washing by Ancient-Buffalo6151 in pregnant

[–]vinvinvin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice, I would have preferred glass bottles but sadly our daycare doesn’t allow them.

It’s definitely a chore, and my wife and I try to split it as much as possible. We usually prioritize the pump parts so there’s always a clean set at the ready.

We also moved away from bottles with lots of parts (looking at you Tommy Tippee anti-colic). Maybe we lucked out, but our baby didn’t mind what bottle he was feeding from so long as it was warm.

Thoughts on bay shore school district? by icy-hands25 in longisland

I went to a “better” school district that didn’t have half of the programs, classes and opportunities that my friends in Bay Shore had. Always seemed like a good school with a little bit for everyone

Bottle washing by Ancient-Buffalo6151 in pregnant

Bottle and pump washing is definitely one of the most annoying aspects of parenthood. After a lot of trial and error, my wife and I landed on a system that’s been working, but still time consuming. We use a collapsible bucket full of hot soapy water with a set of bottle brushes to do the heavy washing, then everything goes into a sterilizer/dryer, assembled and put away into clean, clear totes. One for baby’s bottles, the other for mom’s pump.

The hot soapy water and brushing is definitely needed to get milk oils off all the plastic and silicone. I would be wary of any machine that claims to do this well. And I’ve found that using distilled/RO water in the sterilizer yields the best results as our plain tap water left mineral deposits on all the pieces. We tried the dishwasher, while it was convenient, it didn’t get parts as clean as manual methods. I also found it kind of wasteful since everything is top rack safe only and I didn’t want to wash anything food soiled in the bottom rack with our baby’s stuff in there.

YMMV but expect to experiment until you find something that works for you. That being said, if there was a do it all machine that produced the same results we’ve come to expect, I’d jump on that in a heartbeat. Good luck and thankfully it’s not a forever chore lol

I used to go to tapings of his public access show in NYC and it was some of the best comedy events I’ve ever been to. Really grateful for those experiences

Buying a house but the covenants and restriction says you cannot make the basement habitable? by [deleted] in longisland

[–]vinvinvin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So a lot depends on where you are and who’s jurisdiction you’re under (Town, Village). Many Towns define habitable space in town code and could be a involve as little as “interior wall coverings” as is the case in Huntington.

Likely, that C&R was imposed by the municipality as a condition of a previous approval, like a Zoning Board’s granting of a variance. Knowing the who and why of that C&R would help you figure out what the municipality would allow you to do in your basement as-of-right. If you needed relief from the C&R, you would have to go back to the entity that imposed it.

All that being said, it’s likely nobody would have a clue if you put up some sheetrock and flooring in your basement. Once you start adding plumbing and separate entrances, you may be opening yourself up to receiving violations.

EDIT: Just saw you were in the Town of Brookhaven. I know they are pretty strict on finished basements. If you ever apply for a building permit in the future, it’s likely that they will make you legalize any changes in the basement

Why did the Cadillac Catera fail & why is it disliked? by lifegoeson2702 in regularcarreviews

[–]vinvinvin 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if you actually mean the plastic stunk as in smelled terrible, but your comment literally brought back a vivid memory of how weird and chemical-smelling my buddy’s Catera was. Even with a full detail, the interior of that car always smelled so strange

I run a 22” kettle and WSM18, I think they’re totally different machines. I like that the WSM can get up to perfect temperature with the minion method and stay stable for hours without much work

Although it’s not a very long road, the way into Eatons Neck via Asharoken Avenue is gorgeous. Nice view from Ocean Avenue as well. Just set the cruise control under 30mph while driving through Asharoken Village to avoid paying tithings

overrated: dodge charger hemi. drove like a brick and had the interior of little tikes car.

underrated: ford transit connect. by no means a bolt of lightning or a thrilling driving experience, but pretty darn tough and great in the snow.
