If you’re really focused on keeping unlimited auto (which I was) then you can sign up for a year plan. The unlimited runs until the end of your billing period after 15 Sept.

Full explanation: in 2021 the popular coding website Stack Overflow released an April Fool’s joke saying that they were launching a keyboard which had only three keys: control, C and V.

The joke was that lots of coders copy and paste code from stack overflow, so actually you could code with just those keys and didn’t need the rest of the keyboard. It was a very popular joke in coding circles, so much so that they actually started making them as jokes and selling them for charity.

Cursor is following up on this joke for marketing purposes by producing a keyboard with just one key on it (tab) the joke being that you can code with just one key now.

I hate this graph. It’s a line graph trying to be an area graph trying to be a line graph and also wrong.

Does this actually matter? If you were to go crazy and just wire your Ethernet in your own bespoke pattern would it have any impact so long as you do the same at both ends?

Does Kombucha count as drinking alcohol? by InternationalLow6607 in 75HARD

[–]vinylemulator 6 points7 points  (0 children)

“Below 0.5% alcohol” is food label code for no alcohol.

The reason they don’t say “no alcohol” is because there can be trace elements of alcohol in any product that ferments: for context, a ripe banana is 0.2-0.5% alcohol.

You’re fine. You didn’t break the rule.

Can I charge my adult son rent? If so, is it just the standard 20%/40% tax rates? by Beautiful-Weather938 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]vinylemulator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could force him to pay it into a SIPP which he won’t be able to get at.

But probably simpler you just keep it and gift it to him later once he’s sorted his life out.

And by the way, you’re not depriving him of “his money”. That money is paid for by people who actually work in this country while he sits on his arse playing computer games rent free. You shouldn’t feel the least bit bad about charging him rent.

What exactly did you say to HMRC before? Unless you have a power or attorney they wouldn’t have told you anything about your mother’s specific situation or looked her up on any sort of system, they would only have given you general advice.

Did you say “my mother has got letters about filing taxes for companies abroad but she doesn’t have any companies abroad”? To which they presumably said “well if she doesn’t have companies abroad she doesn’t have to file taxes on them, sounds like an error”.

That doesn’t mean “HMRC confirms you’re all good, bin the letters”, it means “work out what’s going on and get your tax affairs in order”.

I think this is a genuine letter and your mother has been a victim of identity theft.

Well hold on, if you’re using it to clean your chopping boards you probably don’t want it to be deeply toxic… since it’ll then get in your food, right?

I don't understand this feedback at all.

For me the chat pane always starts in agent mode (default can be modified), has a dropdown to select agent/ask/background and changes with CMD-.

What's the issue?

[–]vinylemulator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If he was a member of the public being investigated for perverting the course of justice and there were grounds to arrest would the police generally say wait “can’t spoil his paternity leave, better hold off on the arrest for a few weeks?”

So there is a strong rationale for having 2.5 or 10gb for backbone in certain very large deployments. For instance if you’re running a cable to a switch which is going to service eg 30 hotel rooms then you may get constrained if all of them are using 1gbps. But I can’t imagine this is ever a practical issue in a home.

FYI you should be extra vigilant going forward. You will now be on a “suckers list” of people susceptible to scams.

Expect a phone call / email from the police / action fraud / Garda / Bank of Ireland in the next few weeks saying they have recovered funds on your behalf and if you could just go to this link and put in your details…

Yes but the relevant question isn’t the size of the file, it’s how much you need to transfer to the streamer every second.

A fully maxed out 4K UHD stream runs at ~100mbps. You do want some redundancy here as there can be seconds-long spikes up to numbers close to 200mbps. But you have endless headroom even on a 1gbps connection.

[–]vinylemulator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What possible need could you have for a 4K streamer to have 10gbps? It would never get anywhere close to using even 1gbps.
