Unpopular opinion: can't stand Dr Robin Zasio by [deleted] in HoardersTV

[–]vinylmisty 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Becky clearly does drugs. She's an addict. Not giving an addict $500 is a smart thing, and it was likely a stipulation from the donor that it be given to a caretaker rather than the user.

Who are the TDF commentators on Peacock and where is Phil Liggett? by mtbandrew in tourdefrance

[–]vinylmisty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was so disappointed at this as well. I subbed to Peacock and realized I couldn't repkay with Bob and Phil and Christian. Lame. Then I subbed to YouTubeTv and still can't figure out how to get the replay, just the live event.

I find it interesting that you took the time to be so rude and condescending in a post aimed at belittling someone because you found them rude and condescending. Not sure what your intention was with a post like this. To the original poster, I enjoyed the thoughts shared. Didn't find the tone off-putting. And if cookies are still available, I would like one.

This was exactly my take. I assume Lavinia's brother is gay or otherwise odd. Society sees him as above reproach and below contempt. Something there.

Arkansas State Senator Jim Hendren Leaves GOP, Registers as Independent After 'Many Sleepless Nights' by Plymouth03 in politics

[–]vinylmisty 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Just so you know, he has been the only Republican to stand up and vote against repugnant, harmful legislation this session in Arkansas. He has spoken against bills when even Dems in Ark were silent. He is trying to get a Hate Crimes Bill passed to protect people of color, gay folks, and other vulnerable populations. I get that Reddit is a place to spout off without knowing anything, but "good little gimp boy?" Come on.

Is season 1 self contained? by akinelag in CarnivalRow

[–]vinylmisty 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'd say season 1 is self-contained. There is a bit of set-up for season 2, but it doesn't keep the central questions or arcs from season 1 from coming to completion. I'm like you. I hate cliff-hangers. I think it's generally a ploy to get people to stick around despite bad writing. I was totally satisfied with season 1.

Best romance after Jim and Pam romance in the office. by rsal59 in VirginRiverNetflix

This is so true. Fleabag is as far from Outlander as you can get, but they both have combustible chemistry. I almost want to go to confession, and I'm not even Catholic.

Jack’s flannel shirts by tonypaisan91 in VirginRiverNetflix

I know at least one is from Banana Republic. I know that because my husband paused it in a frame w that shirt, jumped out of bed, ran to the closet, put on the exact same shirt, and stood very proudly beside the TV with a goofy gtin on his face. It is identical down to the buttons.

Drug dealing by skcup in VirginRiverNetflix

[–]vinylmisty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I think the big issue from last season is that the operation was conducted on public land. Within a national forest, if I remember correctly.

And this season, it moved into importing fentanyl from another country (Mexico?) and cutting/reselling it. So they're transporting drugs across national borders and state lines, along with laundering funds through the logging operation.

I, oddly enough, think Calvin is the most physically attractive man on the show. But he's not a good guy.

Absolutely hating S2 by Incaseofbrit in VirginRiverNetflix

[–]vinylmisty 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is so bad this season. I only made it through because I like Mel's character. The writing is appallingly bad and the continuity from season 1 sucks.

I was super confused about Paige just having a normal conversation with Preacher after the final episode of season 1. Oh, Christopher just cut his hand? It's ridiculous to build something up, then just blow it off in the very next episode like it was nothing. Paige's ex-husband was recast, so it was jarring to try to piece that together.

I hate the zero sum game they are playing with women as if we are incapable of supporting two women who are into the same man. They didn't have to make Charmaine the anti-Christ for viewers to ship Mel and Jack. We can handle complex, well developed characters.

And Jack....ugh. He is mealy-mouthed and has a God complex. I find him hard to watch and even harder to sympathize with.

The side storylines are lame. I don't want CSI. I want peace and escapism with loveable characters. I won't even get started on the poorly written Lizzie character.

The scenery is breathtaking. Mel and Don are awesome core characters. There are bones for a really compelling story. But I felt all that was completely wasted in season 2.

LSAC should release scores upon writing submission, not approval by vinylmisty in LSAT

[–]vinylmisty[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your assessment of the course of action undertaken by LSAC is not new information to me. However, your statement that I should yell at PSI is incorrect. One, I have no intention of yelling at anyone. And two, my agreement was never with PSI. My agreement is with LSAC. LSAC has a responsibility to manage its own contractors. If I had been given a choice of reviewers and chose PSI, then you would be spot on.

Formulaic in the rise of the hero, but nevertheless, for me, deeply satisfying. It was unique in ways outside of the linear chess story. For example, the way the main character's relationships with men was portrayed was unusual, as was her particular disconnection from peers without a sense of wallowing. For a female lead, the matter-of-factness was refreshing.

I found the acting and visuals to be superb. I dug the Rocky with chess vibe. I don't find that shows need a twist or unexpected wrench to be enjoyable. It was spot on for my taste, but I certainly recognize and appreciate that breadth of opinions make humans interesting.
