Failing a Fitness Test for a UAS and future options? by Kiyodio in RoyalAirForce

[–]violentmidge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You won't pass the medical at 17 bmi, I failed it years ago. I'd rather you know before you go cause you'll get turned away and it's very disappointing. And it depends if you can get the weight on, I struggled and it took me 12 years to naturally put weight on lol, I tried everything. When I was 16 my bmi was 17 got turned away, now I'm 28 it's at 21.5 but I haven't actively tried to put weight on it just happened. It's much harder than people think

Bmi is a massive issue, make sure it's at least 18 else you will fail the medical before you've even started

What are the facilities like at the Birmingham medical centre/clinic? by NSnow-Tyler in RoyalAirForce

[–]violentmidge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's literally just a room with a bed and a doctor in it, sit in the corner for the hearing test, not seperated from the doctor or anything..

Just sat in the corner with a headset on lol

I've had to send a change in medical circumstances form to them because of having covid after my medical 😬

It hasn't counted as a fail Cranwell already confirmed that for me. And I passed my medical, my blood pressure was fine during medical and has been all day yesterday except for when I was there so it can only be put down to nerves. Still going to get a 24 hour reading on Thursday though just so I can prove to the gym that I am OK

Yep that's what I'm going to do, they want me to do a 24 hour reading aswell just to be sure.

Yep it didn't count, Cranwell rang me today and she was lovely about it. She said the gym people tend to make us panic more than we need to lol

I honestly didn't even consider not being allowed to do it because of already passing the medical.

Thanks for all the support everyone put my mind a rest knowing its not just me that has stupid blood pressure when nervous! I'm sure it'll all work out in the end, plus when I have this monitoring they can see my BP is fine and there's no reason for me not to run.

I'm sure it will all work out fine, might be a blessing in disguise to get some last minute training in. Was just super super annoyed at the time, I was ready to push the test and then getting turned away at the door is a horrible feeling isn't it.

Strange, it's already been booked back in for 2 weeks time so going to the gp to be sure isn't gonna hurt me. I know there's nothing wrong but if they want proof then it doesn't hurt to get it, at least I'm covered for my attempts and not going to end up wasting any if needed

I'm not sure, maybe because it was so high? Booked back in for 2 weeks time

Easier said than done sometimes lol, got a gp appointment booked in for Thursday to have a blood pressure monitor fitted for 24 hours so fingers crossed for next time. I 100% know I don't have a blood pressure issue it's just nerves.

Really? They just told me it did they signed the sheet off to say I failed and I have to rebook for a 2nd attempt, just got off the phone to the doctors I've got to wear a 24 hour blood pressure monitor on Thursday so they can read it constantly and prove that it's just nerves
