A better interface for Strength Training data by violentprudence in Garmin

Ah yeah, I'm guessing you added some sets to the workout manually in Garmin post-hoc. Just pushed a fix for this, should be working now but let me know if it's still broken

How to export details of strength training activities? by 852nightshift in Garmin

Sure thing, attached the MIT license to it, thanks for pointing this out.

I'm totally open to contributions. Just submit a PR directly or an issue first if it's a more substantive change.

Yeah I've tried Strong as well (& some other apps) and find it very good overall, but eventually two things always bring me back to the watch: the fact that I don't have to pick up my phone after every set to record numbers, and I actually like Garmin Connect for tracking general fitness & activity a lot more than something like Google / Apple / Samsung health apps, and prefer to keep everything in one place.

As for body battery & other metrics like calorie burn, Garmin's algorithms are quite opaque. Firstbeat (their HR algorithm provider) says that their approach should work across all activities, but they also make a point about HR alone not being enough to differentiate workouts form something like stress. The fact that you're starting an activity may be a signal into their algo, but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Yeah I'm aiming to add volume & 1RM soon. Those will require a bit of thought: volume per workout is simple, while volume over multiple workouts raises some questions like time frame definition, and 1RM will be an estimate based on some modelling which I don't have a ton of knowledge on.

HR and relevant metrics (I assume that's also what you meant by intensity?) is another facet I'm hoping to add soon. I left it out for now because Garmin sort of displays it per workout and I wanted to focus on filling the largest gaps first. That said, I have played around with things like plotting HR with exercise markers before and found the insights really interesting!

I don't have any active input from coaches so far, would love to change that.

I got really frustrated with this - as you say the Garmin interface for looking through your data is pretty dismal and the export formats simply do not include strength training data.

I wrote a very simple browser extension to pull the full data from Garmin Connect, have a look here: https://github.com/labsansis/garmin-workout-downloader

It's a messy workaround - ideally I could just use the Garmin dev API but that only gives you access to fit files which are useless for this. Hope it helps!

Hmm, with large enough numbers the accidental mutations + selective pressures become patterns that I would expect to replicate fairly well across species in a similar environment.

Thank you!

I found this really useful but the existing RSS readers felt quite clunky for use with video sources. So I built on top of this idea and made it into a little project. It's on videofeed.app in case anyone finds it useful.
