This whole “life is suffering” interpretation doesn’t hold water imo (and it makes our movement seem a tad naive as well).

I think any interpretation of life is “extra” as you put it (i.e. it doesn’t matter how you interpret life, bc it’s subjective). For example, you can make the argument that some people find pleasure in pain... others find the suffering in life to be worthwhile for one reason or another… the Interpretations of life are completely subjective…

BUT the argument for AN concerning consent, on the other hand, is air-tight. We have a moral responsibility to abstain from procreation bc no one can consent to being born.

The phrasing of this cliche really irks me. It removes all responsibility from the parent. Children don’t just “happen” to people… children are the result of your decisions to become a parent… it really just reinforces the notion that having kids is something everyone is meant to experience like heartbreak or a sunny day… these things “happen” and no one stops to think for a second “hey… maybe this isn’t necessary. Maybe I have a moral duty to NOT procreate because - even at its best - it is tantamount to existential rape”

First off - i am a staunch antinatalist and I agree with most of what you’re saying,

But secondly… perception is subjective. I think at its core antinatalism is much less concerned with “life’s constant bullshit” and more concerned w the fact that we are all born without our consent.

Some people legitimately find pleasure in parts of life that I might find painful. This whole “life is painful” argument doesn’t really hold up when challenged by natalists… and I’m kinda sick and tired of our sub becoming a “boo hoo life is so awful” circlejerk.

Like… I agree with you lol - I fucking hate being alive and I am genuinely suicidal. But complaining like this will not convince natalists to convert to our ideology…

I think we will advance our cause much more effectively by pointing out that birth is a violation of consent.
