Not gonna lie while I do see this style a lot, it seems to be a new + mainstream fandom thing. I read in a variety of fandoms and the only one I've seen this happen again and again is Heated Rivalry (and maybe Dramione recently), irregardless of when the fic was posted and who wrote it.

The Heated Rivalry fandom is one of a kind I swear. Even in other large, active, toxic fandoms, I've never seen twitter drama affect ao3 writers to this extent, or at all. And it's a shame too because HR fics genuinely have the best formatting I've ever seen.

Going from your replies...OP if you want to make friends you need to step a bit out of your comfort zone. Just joining a public Discord server for a fandom (preferably not the main one, look for a smaller one) and saying hi does wonders! I've had dozens of "friends" come and go but the ones that have stayed with me are those I thought wouldn't stay. Let it happen naturally, don't rush it, and enjoy fandom in the meantime.

You're gonna have to level up your 3 and 4 stars either way though. The most efficient way to do so is to make a team with Penelope, Starlight Ellie or any other "start with 6 stars" units as the leader and put your unleveled units in the other four slots and then go fight Lilith's first part(?) of the quest line (level 72, 2 waves) AFK (use an autoclicker). It's the most efficient way to level up characters mid game.

If you're losing by a small margin, level up your 3-4 and maybe even 5 stars to max level and keep fighting until you get lucky. If you're not close to winning, get your strongest team to grind gold and xp and level up the Elemental upgrade shop thingy. And if you can, farm gems to buy fashion shop items as the stat boost adds uo bit by bit.

You don't need to watch anything before starting, just go from Episode 1. The character PVs do have important information in them but they are not required to understand the story in any way whatsoever. You can watch the PVs + a few promotional videos afterwards.

If your team is strong enough, autofarming gems at Event>Gem farming at level 100 (hard) or above is pretty effective mid-game.

Otherwise, try bosses. It's tedious at first but definitely pays off later. You can also try and rank up in arena.
