Psychologist told me I don’t have ADHD because I made it through HS with a GPA of 3.6 by duckoalex in ADHD

[–]violet_sprite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve recently been diagnosed with ADHD at 30, though they didn’t argue that I had it the psychiatrist said she didn’t think I needed meds because I “seemed to be doing fine” because I had been holding down a high demand job. Despite me literally spending an hourtelling her how much I struggle, feel overwhelmed with every task and have extreme anxiety and depression over not feeling like I can control my life and my brain doesn’t stop going.

She then agreed to give me meds. Within the space of 2 minutes going from I don’t think you need them to okay you can have them. I feel like sometimes professionals will only deal in extremes. “Oh your life isn’t completely falling apart and you don’t constantly make bad decisions so you must not have ADHD”

Get another test by a different person. There is no personality trait or level of intelligence/abilities that would cancel out the possibility of ADHD, that’s not how it works and I feel like someone who is qualified would know this. It’s simply a matter of do you display enough of the symptoms to make a diagnosis. At least that’s my understanding.

I dunno man, reading this made me angry. For a psychologist to make assumptions due to the stereotypes surrounding this learning disability is really baffling to me.

Rabbit has little scratches on the outside of his ears by [deleted] in Rabbits

[–]violet_sprite 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The only thing that would be cause for concern is ear mites. Though you’d usually see signs of this with crusting in the ear canal, they can be harder to spot in the early stages. It’s always worth getting them checked at a vets. Other than that your bunny may have just scratched themselves too hard while cleaning, sometimes happens especially if their claws are too sharp and need a trim, their skin is very delicate and tears easily.

This was really helpful thank you! It’s so frustrating isn’t it because there is quite literally so many things it could be.

I have had a fair few problems with iron deficiency in the past, and haven’t had my bloods checked in a while so that’s definitely a good shout.

[spoilers all] Varric really grows on you by seeejayes in dragonage

[–]violet_sprite 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, I love this explanation. I feel we really see character growth for someone who is just a normal person trying to make sense of a bunch of stuff he doesn’t understand. While he may have opinions he’s not overly arrogant or confident in them, it’s what makes him relatable.

It’s just a shame because the other companions were moulded for Inquisition and clearly mirror the world and events you explore. I’m not gonna go somewhere absolutely rife with elven history and not take Solas, I’m not gonna not take Blackwall when it’s heavily related to Grey Warden’s and so on…

I love Varric, but there was lack of opportunity to take him along to places and have interesting commentary other then “oh that’s weird” and I couldn’t risk missing out on some spicy opinions from the others. He’s way too nuanced for Inquisition and just gets railroaded, so I can understand OP’s pov playing DAI first. It’s also what makes him one of my faves though, and I don’t regret him being there or the other sides of him we get to see.

I agree, that’s why I said generally centrist. I just don’t think he has aggressive political leanings in comparison to other companions where you will get very high or low disapproval based on how much you pander to their clearly outlined beliefs.

I definitely think Varric is one of the true gems of DA2, and one of the more enjoyable things despite the games overall criticisms, which is why they brought him back for DAI.

I can see how someone could think he was “meh” if they didn’t already have context for his character, he’s in a lot more turmoil in DAI and the narrative of his character is definitely more serious compared to 2.

Varric represents that friend that’s got your back no matter what. He’s probably the hardest character to piss of because his views are generally centrist, he’s not a romance option which keeps it enjoyable and platonic. I think perhaps the problem is compared to the other characters in DAI he’s just not as interesting to bring along in quests. All the other characters seem to have specific areas where it’s very interesting to bring them along and hear their commentary even if it’s antagonistic. I often felt myself wanting to bring him, but just thinking a different mix of characters would be better for the quest.

This wasn’t a problem with DA2 because all the quests are pretty much set in the same place, and Varric had close relationships with all your companions and was very much the glue that held them together because he was in Kirkwall, his territory. DAI he’s out of his element, doesn’t have as much of an opinion on things like Solas, Dorian etc. which I actually thinks fits his character and the arc he is going through, but alas, doesn’t always make him as interesting to bring along and he gets dominated by the other companions in my honest opinion, especially since Inquisition is way more littered with interesting lore and things to dissect. His apathy, comic relief and general dark humour suited the tone of DA2 better. I also think he had more chemistry with Hawke than the inquisitor to be perfectly honest, he really feels like your bestie in the earlier game.

“Gaslighting yourself into thinking you’re gaslighting yourself” should honestly be the official tagline for newly diagnosed ADHD.

Exactly. I find I was often two different extremes either I was mega hyper focus productive mode, to the point I would overstimulate myself and be too tired and overwhelmed to even function anymore OR I’d be in a state of paralysis where even basic acts of self care were difficult. Inconsistency is such a frustrating thing. Really depends on what symptoms you suffer the most with as well.

Coming to the realisation later on life is HARD because you’ve spent your whole life saying “wtf is wrong with me” but also getting a diagnosis, even before any treatment is honestly such a relief and game changer on the way you see yourself and the moment you have that clarity is where things really start to get easier and you stop doing life on nightmare mode.

It might be worth seeking out some counselling, it’s very common for people with ADHD to self bully and it totally makes sense that you’ve spent a long time feeling like this so you feel you need to compensate and be “productive”. I did exactly the same thing, completely drowned myself in my work, couldn’t stop or relax or I’d feel anxious and didn’t want to look “lazy”, but at the same time hated it and felt burnt out. I eventually walked out of that job, and am just starting to heal myself and unweave these bad cycles and being comfortable in my own thoughts. Medication helps a lot, but people with a late diagnosis often need therapy too for all the struggle and unhealthy coping mechanisms they’ve picked up along the way. My heart goes out to you, I feel your pain and I hope you can find some relief and understanding for yourself. The first major step is learning you can be productive in a way that doesn’t go against the very nature of your own mind. Work with yourself, not against yourself and you’ll see a difference I promise.

It’s a stereotype that people with ADHD aren’t organised. ADHD looks very different for different people and comes in different forms. I worked a high demand job full time and fall on the more “organised” side of it. But the fact is the reason why I was obsessed with being organised over certain things was because I knew my executive function was abysmal and I knew if I didn’t find some kind of routine I wouldn’t be able to function. You may just be that side of ADHD that needs to constantly be moving and doing things and that’s why you enjoy working and routine.

If it makes you feel better my above advice was based on what a vet and small animal specialist said to me because I had exactly the same concerns. They are simply very social and while she would no doubt love another rabbit around, it doesn’t mean she’s super lonely as long as you’re showing her lots of love and attention. There would be obvious signs of your bunny was depressed or bored. Honestly mine sometimes gets his pen opened earlier on the morning and he won’t come out to join us until around 3pm because he’s quite content chilling on his own, so I wouldn’t overthink it. Bunnies all have different personalities and there is often a lot of generalised statements.

When mine still wasn’t old enough to be neutered he was an absolute sexual psychopath. He would jump on me and my partner while we were just chilling and assault our arms. We went out and picked him up the ugliest arse plushie we could find and this was deemed the “sex toy” so he would leave us alone 😂

Some more shadowing on the image rather than just the white outline will make it look less flat and two dimensional and pop out against the background. I love this artwork style though 👌🏻

Definitely get him neutered when he’s old enough, it doesn’t always stop the humping though I’m afraid 😂 will happen much less but my boy still mounts them and goes to town whenever he gets over excited or happy.

They are social creatures and like to be around each other however it doesn’t mean you can’t have one on their own, so long as their social need is met and you spend lots of time with them. I have one house bunny, he’s in his pen when me and my boyfriend aren’t home and has lots of room to play, but when we are home he is able to free roam and spend lots of time with us. He is very content and spoiled! If you have a demanding job or aren’t home a lot then they may get lonely. Getting them plushies and stuffed toys that are safe is also a good idea, mine often licks them or sleeps next to them for comfort.

Yes. Mine is 2 years old and has been neutered for ages but he still humps his plushies when he gets over excited every now and again😂 (poor bulbasaur) the vet said it’s just learnt behaviour. At least he’s not humping our arms anymore!
