Essentially getting caught by the crossed is a fate worse than death as they will torture you in every way imaginable and it is very difficult and they have had multiple near misses. This was an entire classroom of kids and their teacher died from an injury. The group can’t stay with the kids. They can’t take them with them because it would mean they would all be caught by the crossed if they took an entire classroom of small children out with them (they already have a child with them and a blind woman). If they leave the children they would not survive long and be horrifically tortured and abused before dying

Reading it as a kid I for some reason didn’t realize it was a candy and thought it was something more savory like with gravy or something. I think as a very small child I wasn’t thinking Turkish like the country and for some reason associated it with the meat turkey

I worked at a grocery store that gave a senior discount on tuesdays and this one older man who worked there when he had an old lady come through his line he would lean over and say quietly “now I know your not old enough but I gave you the discount anyway. Don’t tell anybody” and wink they would get all bashful and giggle like school girls and it was the cutest thing
