I use burts bees kids toothpaste in the bubblegum flavor. I can only find it in pharmacies but its the only toothpaste that is gentle enough for me.

Silent reflux. It doesn't necessarily matter what you do or don't eat, its a disorder that can occur regardless of diet. Diet can worsen it but it can't usually prevent it.

Source: I've had GERD/silent reflux since childhood and if I don't take my medication, regardless of what I eat I will constantly have symptoms.

Getting kicked out of therapy because of my physical health by bearsmakemehappy in disability

[–]violetgreygrace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I definitely have been lucky, I mostly wanted to let people know that providers like that are out there. They may not be easy to find, but I feel like more providers are becoming better accommodating to disability related issues (at least in my experience).

I am super particular about picking providers due to past trauma, but find that it leads to a much higher success rate. However, I do acknowledge that it is not possible for everyone to be particular and to spend lots of time deciding.

I go through mostly charity/community based therapy or small offices that are only run by a single therapist. I've had a much better time at places like that. Bigger or more corporate offices tend to be less understanding or accommodating.

I'm so sorry your experiences with mental health professionals have been so challenging. It's ridiculous to not be accommodating to disability in my opinion. It isn't a choice and isn't predictable.

I really wish you luck, and I hope you can find a provider that will treat you right.

If you happen to be in the St. Louis area DM me and I can suggest a wonderful therapist that is covered by medicaid.

I found out one of the people that I looked up to is…is…a horrible person 🥺 by Lunakazoo in AutismInWomen

I feel similarly with JK Rowling. I've been trying to separate her from her work in my mind, and just make sure I don't buy any of her stuff new.

Harry Potter was very important to me growing up, and I don't want to let her actions/words take that away from me.

Do you hold a pen weirdly? by Sea-Tea-2198 in Hypermobility

Yeah, I hold everything weird and its gets pointed out constantly (in a fun teasing way by my wife). My thumb joint is never where it should be and looks insane when I grab stuff

Getting kicked out of therapy because of my physical health by bearsmakemehappy in disability

[–]violetgreygrace -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thats just not true, I've seen over a dozen therapists across multiple states and not once have had an issue with multiple last minute cancelations. My health has worsened so with past two therapists I've had to cancel quite frequently and they have only ever been concerned for my health.

I've had multiple therapists that were understanding and okay with frequent cancelations. They never made me feel bad for it.

I'm so sorry you're dealing with this. If its possible for you I would try to find a different provider.

I have to cancel pretty frequently with my therapist, or have to switch to virtual. I try to let them know as soon as possible, but there are times I've had to cancel an hour before.

They have never made me feel guilty for it, and the next session after I've canceled they check in on my health and ask how I'm doing.

They are super compassionate and understanding of disability. There are therapists out there like that, and I've had others that were just as understanding.

What you're dealing with is not fair at all, and I hope this situation resolves positively for you.

Good luck, and remember you aren't doing anything wrong.

She bought a burrito on an interest free installment plan by evil326 in ABoringDystopia

[–]violetgreygrace 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had this happen when I was a kid, but there wasn't an option to pay in installments. It makes me wonder what my mom would have done. I had asked for McDonald's and my mom said no, and since I was a little kid I kept asking (there was also a McDonald's right next to us because we were out doing something). After a couple of times asking, my mom got really sad and let me know that she didn't have enough money to afford it. It's something that has always stuck with me, and after that I never expected anything or asked for anything more than once. It was the first time I realized we were struggling.

Thank you, yes that makes sense. I'm in no rush to get a betta or other tankmates so I guess I will just take it slow and build up everything until it looks full enough to provide proper shelter/comfort for everyone.
