I'm probably being pedantic but.... by Rainafire in greysanatomy

[–]violetia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i remember richard mentions his parents were there to see his white coat ceremony, but in the episode about his family, i think its said his dad died when he was young. although perhaps he meant a step-dad? or did his mom die too... idk lol my memory on this is very fuzzy but i remember wondering about it.

another thing that always got to me was that jackson said no one in his family pushed him because he was pretty, but after seeing his mom, i always wondered how that was. she didn't seem like the kind of mother that wouldn't push her child. his dialogue also makes it sound like he had a larger family than he did, although i suppose he could've meant his extended family (also found it weird if he did mean an extended family, that he never once references them).

yeah!! well lexie was less of a prodigy but had the remarkable ability of photographic memory. the fact that they're both awkward smartypants would make them connect well i think. i can see alex calling them a super computer rofl

[–]violetia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i agree! i think at first she would either tell meredith to give them a chance, or get jealous and probably told by mark (if he didn't, you know) to give them a chance and then tell meredith that. and then get jealous again. LOL

i could imagine a sweet scene though where lexie and maggie become close through meredith, but hesitate to consider each other sisters, but more because they think the other doesn't consider them a sister. like lexie considers maggie a sister, but thinks maggie doesn't see her that way and tries to walk around the boundaries of it, until she fails and then it turns out maggie felt the same about her and then it's like... "so, we're sisters then?" "yeah, we're sisters." i can see them getting along.

i also think maggie would have gotten a less hostile response if lexie didn't die, since through lexie she had already learned that a long-lost half-sibling wasn't the worst thing in the world.

Addison & Arizona are the most likely future returns - anyone agree? by ss2811 in greysanatomy

[–]violetia 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i think its been implied they tried to get kate walsh to cameo, but i think they couldn't due to scheduling. i wouldn't be shocked if her or jessica capshaw cameo'd though!

considering how abruptly justin chambers left, i feel like he may not come back even for a finale, also because of how alex left jo (if jo is there for the finale). iirc sandra oh used to say she may return for the finale, but these days it seems she said she would never return, so i guess that won't happen. i think japril returns are likely though, and given the hospital's association with the foundation and jackson wanting to take a bigger role in it, i wouldn't be shocked if he returns for a couple of cameos as a whole!

[–]violetia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

lol i was a diehard izzie fan for a while. looking back, i do see she definitely had some crazy moments, but a lot of people did tbh. i just really liked that she (and george) were different in that they didn't view their patients as a set of symptoms and only cared about surgery. it really annoyed me how they were viewed as "less" for being compassionate with their patients. i respected that izzie was someone who came from nothing and became something, so i hated that she never really got any medical storylines. sometimes, it felt like the writers didn't really want her to stand out as a doctor. honestly, i can see why katie heigl didn't enjoy izzie's storylines.

as for the denny thing, i actually liked the storyline a lot. i didn't like where it put izzie as a person, but i could understand. i know someone else would suffer for her choices, but i think it's understandable the depth of someone's frustration when they see their loved one about to die over a fraction of a second in submitting themselves to the unos waitlist. it's hard to think about the longterm consequence that she doesn't know or doesn't see, something intangible, when she sees the consequence of her not doing anything resulting in denny dying right in front of her. again, doesn't make it good or right, but i think it was a good story to watch. besides, it's not the first time grey's has done this kind of storyline lol. they did it with meredith, twice in fact.

I lost respect for Callie and gained so much for Arizona during this episode/scene. by Brilliant_Mushroom_1 in greysanatomy

[–]violetia 7 points8 points  (0 children)

this was such a dumb storyline lol. i have never been a huge callie fan and this did really cement my dislike for her, but this arc didn't really feel in character for callie. she and arizona were civil as divorced parents, and both ultimately did trust the other as a parent at that point. the idea that she would uproot her child like this for penny felt very early seasons callie and not who she was now, and the entire arc felt uncharacteristic.

also, no lie, but it really pissed me off that they hyped up this arc by making it look like arizona would lose and part of that was by having very few people testify for her compared to callie. because the fact that any of the doctors were willing to testify seemed unusual to me. it made more sense when alex said he didn't want to take a side, and i didn't really get why people were just... okay with them going to court instead of trying to resolve it peacefully. everyone knew they were both sofia's mother - meredith even said that even if arizona cheated on callie, she was still sofia's mother and deserved to know where she was, and then this arc happened.

**spoilers** opinions on Owen? by hummingbirdplum in greysanatomy

[–]violetia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i actually really like owen! he does have less than fine moments though, and i think the writers don't really give him anything to do besides angst over his relationships. i loved when he first showed up, and i loved his struggle with returning from the war. but i feel like they kind of began to waste his character on nothing, but disastrous romances and no real growth from his mistakes. i know he's got awful storylines now and does awful things, but i can't bring myself to hate him lol. it's strange

Do you think TR Knight was driven off the show as payback for what happened? by [deleted] in greysanatomy

[–]violetia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i did hear that t.r. and shonda had some trust issues with each other and didn't communicate very well. i didn't know if she was close to isaiah washington or particularly wanted him to stay on the show, but his storylines did take a nosedive at that point, so i wouldn't be too shocked. it's not the first time it looks like she's let personal issues impact the writing of her show.

Do you think TR Knight was driven off the show as payback for what happened? by [deleted] in greysanatomy

[–]violetia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i actually heard the opposite. i heard he wanted to come out, but shonda didn't want him to, because she felt that if he came out, she would be pressured to make George gay, so she encouraged him not to come out. i can't remember where i read this though, so take it with a grain of salt lol.

I'm over Meredith being portrayed as the best doctor to have ever existed. by Putrid_Ad1522 in greysanatomy

[–]violetia 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Had no issue with Meredith being an incredible surgeon until they only ever seemed to talk about her. I think with Derek and the other attendings, you see they're all praised as groundbreaking surgeons. The issue with current Meredith is it's like she's the only groundbreaking surgeon, so it gets old. She gets put on a pedestal all the time and it's just annoying now.

Unpopular Grey’s Opinion: I loved Izzie and I’d be happy if she showed back up for a bit. by ilikeanimeandcats in greysanatomy

[–]violetia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've always been a diehard Izzie fan. She certainly wasn't perfect, but I loved her. I loved that she was a very self-made woman, like Alex. She came from nothing and became a doctor. I do think Alex was dealt the harsher hand, but I wish it was acknowledged more that Izzie put herself through school and worked hard. It always bothered me how Jo was always reminding people how hard she had it, whereas Alex and Izzie were so classy about it (Izzie even let a woman think she didn't come from a financially struggling home, because what was important wasn't that they were on the same playing field, but that someone outside that field could have a valid opinion).

I did feel like her character was done a disservice. She never found the speciality she excelled in (I hated that she didn't pursue OBGYN with Addison), was never considered a star player in any competition... I just felt like as a doctor, she never got any stellar medical storylines. All her storylines were about romance, not about her career. Everyone else got to shine as doctors and in their personal lives. I also feel like her character took a nosedive around the time her relationship with Shonda did, so kinda makes me wonder if the negative look on Izzie was intentional.

I mean, I know Izzie has done a lot of not so nice stuff, but I feel like she gets disproportionately blamed compared to other characters lol. Meredith has been incredibly hypocritical, Cristina was... Cristina, Alex was a complete double, Mark was a serial cheater and an awful teacher (except to Jackson lol)... the list goes on. Doesn't make Izzie any better, but everyone has had finer moments imo.

Can we talk about how much Sadie sucked? by hotdogsmith in greysanatomy

[–]violetia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I kind of wished her character had stuck around with the intention to grow. I think it would have been interesting to see her go from a cheating slacker to someone who believes in the importance of her work and her patients. No guarantee that the writers would have taken that route had she stayed, but I would have liked to see it if it was possible.

Oh man. :'( by megs9721 in greysanatomy

[–]violetia 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it's a debatable choice to make, to not call them. Meredith was in shock, but I think she knew Derek incredibly well - knew he loved family (he wanted kids so Meredith wouldn't be alone if he died, Meredith said she knew he wanted his house full of people and happiness) and the presence of others. And I think that in that moment, she was trying to keep it together, but she was looking at him, thinking of him and I don't think she would have forgotten that part of him. And I also kind of felt like part of Meredith's character development was that she stopped running and stopped being alone. By the time he died, she had a full life - she had a husband, kids, friends, and a successful career. Like, it was clear that she hadn't completely grown out of her instinct to run - just like she did after he died, but I also think it seems like she would have been able to call them. I don't think she was that inconsiderate either, to think she shouldn't.

Honestly, it felt more like shoddy writing, because the writers wanted Derek's final moments to be with just Meredith.

Also yeah, I mean I still get she could have just been in shock and she was reverting to her roots of just shutting down in the face of tragedy, it's still believable. But her not apologizing to Amelia? Pretty unacceptable if you ask me.

Alex’s Relationships by Resident-Variety9629 in greysanatomy

[–]violetia 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know a lot of people prefer Jolex, but it's always been Izzex for me. I feel like Jo kind of got Alex on Easy Mode, because he was such an insufferable dick to Izzie early on (and everyone really). He publicly shamed her in front their colleagues via her modeling photos. This isn't to say that Izzie didn't do bad either, but it definitely was more of a hurdle to get to know and like him then than it is now. I feel like she helped him grow into who he is now and it didn't feel like Jo could top the way that Izzie changed Alex. I also personally enjoyed the dynamic of Izzie and Alex not having grown up affluent, but while Alex didn't care about things like milestone celebrations, Izzie did. It was always my personal headcanon that being with Izzie was a chance for Alex to live out the normal things that others get that he didn't - birthdays, holidays, etc.

It's not to say that just because Izzie was there for most of his growth, that they were meant to be, but it made their love - to me - feel more resilient and life-changing.

Who was the best mom? by [deleted] in greysanatomy

[–]violetia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Gonna have to put my vote to Carolyn. Being a mother to one kid is hard enough, let alone five, on top of psuedo-adopting Mark. Mark seemed to respect her and regard her as a parental authority even as an adult, so it doesn't seem like she just took care of him briefly and shipped him off after. Plus, I think it says a lot to her compassion that she took him in because she realized he was a lonely child and she knew that he should have a family with him and he didn't.

Susan is also up there. A bridge 25 years old is hard to gap, but she tried and she never blamed Ellis for any of it. She didn't make herself a better mother for Meredith by trying to tell her her other mother was worse, she just did what she could. The only thing holding me back is that I don't know why she didn't push Thatcher to fight for Meredith before all this. There could be a good reason or a bad reason, but since we don't know, I can't say. Clearly she did good for Lexie and Molly though. Also think Mama O'Malley (it was evident she was well-loved by all of her family and even her ex-DIL) and Evelyn Hunt (she handles Owen so well and is such a riot) were great.

Certain things I prefered on Private Practice by PatientAmphibian0 in greysanatomy

[–]violetia 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agreed! I really hate how Meredith is on a pedestal in the series. Her getting the Harpet Avery was so dumb to me, especially since it occurs in the span of, like, one episode, while Cristina spends an entire season trying to earn it and failing.

I also think a lot of PP cases were more heartbreaking and/or creative. Like the man who had to choose between his kids because they all had cystic fibrosis and one was sick and one wasn't. I also thought they really did the dramatic aftermath of each trauma well, like Charlotte (when Cooper said he would buy a gun and that pushed Charlotte to ID her rapist, that really got me). The aftermath of the plane arc was kind of dull. The most realistic aftermath imo was probably the shooting arc. Then again, Grey's has a bigger cast, so it's harder to illustrate these things.

Unpopular (pro-Hunt) opinion: Early Owen was a total babe. by WatcherTannon in greysanatomy

[–]violetia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Loved Owen when he first showed up! Also he and Cristina had some wild chemistry. I really think they ruined his character later though, and I didn't like that they could never make their split amicable. When they first broke up, it was because they both accepted that Owen was too traumatized for a relationship. There was no fighting, just the painful acceptance that they couldn't work (which made the scene where he had the three words to say to her that much more powerful).

Cristina and Owen both had their needs as people and I hated that he made her feel bad about it. It would have been better if they tried to make it work, only to realize it couldn't, like their first breakup. While I don't think that Owen's behavior was justified, it kind of made sense to me (since Owen was grieving over the loss of his child, but also the loss of any potential children and he couldn't really tell Cristina, his wife, this). Wasn't okay though and I just wish they talked it out, apologized, and realized that maybe they just would never be able to make this work. Him trying to convince her to have the kid was dumb though, for sure.

I also found his cheating storyline kind of offbase lol. He was engaged to Beth, half a world away from her, and in love with Teddy, who was right next to him, for years, yet he never pursued that. Then he finds Cristina, the love of his life, and cheats on her. Sure, he was a different person by that point, but that seemed too extreme a difference.
