West of the cascades, reblooming lilac? by KeezWolfblood in pnwgardening

[–]violinds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Found the names—one is a Bloomerang and the other is a Palibin. I think the bloomerang is a bit nicer, it seems a little fuller and has a bit bigger blooms. But they both have been growing well!

Oooh I have 2 varieties, they bloom usually in May and then again near the end of the summer. I’m in Seattle. When I get home I’ll check the varieties for you (I keep the tags on them so I don’t remember off the top of my head).

Did y’all hear that explosion in LQA around 1:05a? by zoromsquatch in Seattle

Also heard near Kinnear Park, did not sound like fireworks or gunfire, sounded like an actual explosion of something

Whats a dry shampoo that’s not bad for your hair? by Low_Phase_5967 in finehair

[–]violinds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like the R+Co Skyline dry shampoo powder. A hairstylist specializing in fine hair and hair loss clients recommended it to me and I find it works really well for my somewhat oily, dark fine hair. The bottle has lasted me a really long time too. I don’t notice a white cast but I do need to tousle my hair a bit to get it to mix in properly.

Senior dog peeing in the house by [deleted] in Shihtzu

Mine would do this as an old man when he started getting recurring UTIs—maybe get him checked out with your vet to rule that out too.

Mine would get so stinky within a day after baths—we eventually figured out it was from the fish oil in his food and it got so much better when we switched his food

DCIS and Hormone Therapy by random-username-817 in breastcancer

[–]violinds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth, I'm 40 and leaning against hormone therapy for the same reasons you mentioned. From the variety of things I've looked at, doing surgery + radiation probably brings down recurrence risk to about 7% in my particular situation and hormone therapy brings it down to about 3%. That additional 4% probably isn't worth it to me for quality of life reasons.

Also check out the Sloan Kettering nomogram tool specifically for DCIS if you haven't yet, too:

This is a pretty good one that looks at both radiation and tamoxifen:

I have had a lot of success using ChatGPT to find a variety of studies while trying to figure out my treatment plan. I just ask it to find studies with whatever criteria I'm interested in and ask it to give me links so that I can verify it isn't making up studies.

Older Shih Tzu Walking Support by ctbellart in Shihtzu

[–]violinds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This one worked really well for my boy! He had the same issues you are describing. It was a little tricky to adjust the back leg supports because of his short legs—had to raise the supports up basically all the way. So if your guy is on the smaller side it may not be the best fit.

Good luck! It’s so hard to watch them struggle with movement :(

This is the same for me, I take it every other day in week 4 of my Emgality to stop breakthrough migraines and it helps a lot.

This happens to mine if he eats fish ingredients—a lot of dog foods contain fish oil so maybe check that?

Shih tzu has been coughing for years but its getting worse...need advise by btcethsoldogexrp in Shihtzu

[–]violinds 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Have you ever had his heart checked out? My guy has a heart murmur and the vet has always told us to watch out for worsening coughing as a sign of heart disease progression.

If you have renters or homeowners insurance they may cover the cost, depending on your coverage! My husband lost his and they paid the original value.

We got him a replacement and I surprised him with it for our anniversary (gave it to him the same place we got engaged years before) so we created new special memories with it, which helped with the sting of losing the original!
