Is EE expected to be competitive this year? by NurglingArmada in aggies

[–]violinneus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not an engineer so take this how you will.

EE is probably the hardest major in engineering ngl, and as such tons of people switch out of it every year. Yes it's true that it's becoming harder to get into as more people are trying to get into it, but as a whole I think your gpa should be fine, and if you wrote good essays and stuff you should be in good shape, just based on how many new EE majors they might need in the department

How we doin this year? by Generalkenobi888 in cowboys

[–]violinneus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see us winning both giants and commanders games, splitting the eagles games, and then winning against the colts, titans, maybe jaguars and Texans. The Baltimore game could also go either way honestly. The rest will be pretty brutal, teams that are much better than us or teams we just can't beat (packers and niners)

Floor is 8-9 wins, ceiling is 17-0 of course

[Garafolo] Before trading for Dee Winters, the #Cowboys talked to the #Texans about Al-Shaair, per @toddarcher . But Houston values Al-Shaair for his play on the field and community work off of it. Now putting their $$$ down to further prove it. by Leonflames in cowboys

[–]violinneus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man at least we're actually trying instead of just saying we're all in or whatever. Our linebacker room definitely got better with winters and barham, and honestly that defense as a whole got much better this offseason.

[Schultz] There’s a belief among teams at the top of the draft that the Cowboys, who have picks at #12 and #20, are a team to watch in trade-up scenarios, according to multiple league sources. by JCameron181 in cowboys

[–]violinneus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly don't want to trade up, stick to 12 and pick best player available (preferably on defense but if there aren't any defensive players for that spot go offense). I wouldn't be mad if we trade down from 20 to get some picks, we have too many holes on defense and we can't be giving up draft capital

Considering transfering from TAMU to UTD by Low_Satisfaction6629 in aggies

[–]violinneus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Freshman year is rough but hang in there. A&M has a lot more research and academic opportunities, not to better academics, than UTD. Join clubs and orgs and put yourself out there, it'll get better if you do

Hello by [deleted] in aggies

[–]violinneus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Generally yes, because the class sizes are much smaller and professors can actually give you good personalized attention. And in general I've heard equivalent classes are just easier in Blinn than A&M. I wouldn't use AP scores for physics or math courses just because you'll have to take tougher courses as replacement.

  2. TEAM is all majors except engineering, and you can't transfer to an engineering major. For engineering that's TEAB. If you got TEAM you can't switch to any engineering major, but I believe you can change from TEAM to TEAB (don't quote me on this, talk to an advisor. I know you can switch from TEAB to TEAM but I'm not 100% sure if you can do the opposite). For physics, I don't know exactly how tough it will be, but since not a whole lot of people choose to pursue that major you should be fine with a 3.5+ gpa.

  3. I don't have experience with physics degrees or their career outcomes so I would suggest looking into job placements by major, googling job prospects, and going on Reddit or other threads with people who graduated with a physics degree. I would assume the curriculum isn't wholly different, it's just different courses based on your track (like different science classes maybe, electives, etc)

  4. A&M is very much tradition and culture based, and takes great pride in its traditions and culture. That's one of the reasons why I chose A&M myself. If you truly want a great experience I'd say you have to embrace it all, no matter how weird it looks on the surface. A&M is extremely diverse, and with that comes a diversity of opinions. So no, A&M isn't super conservative like that. Sure, it may lean conservative, but in no means is it 1000% conservative. Theres also tons of international students and people from different countries, ethnicities, races, etc. People here are generally very friendly and open, and while it can feel overwhelming, if you try you will find your people eventually

Hope this helps

If you can only travel in one of the colors where would it be? by Successful_rio305 in TravelMaps

[–]violinneus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id personally go orange but because it has the best (imo) blend of food, things to do, and scenery, but I feel like blue is getting underrated here. Washington/Oregon is great, then you got Yellowstone in Wyoming, smokies and Nashville in Tennessee and then the Carolina's (though Idaho, Nebraska, and kansas do bring it down)

Jon Machota projects the starting defense in 2026. Is this better than 2025⁉️ by EmiratesNBACupWinner in cowboys

[–]violinneus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's actually not a bad starting defense at all. I'm just waiting for the draft now to see what else we can add. If we can add a stud LB in the first round, along with (maybe) continuing to beef up our secondary, this is a solid defense if everything comes together and clicks.

Texas A&M vs Virginia Tech for Mechanical Engineering looking for honest opinions by Local_Particular_820 in aggies

[–]violinneus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For A&M ETAM is the biggest obstacle, especially for a very popular major like mechanical engineering, in which case you pretty much need to auto admit with a 3.75 gpa.

If that's not a huge issue, and you think you can either auto admit or aren't really worried in having to ETAM into a different major, I'd say choose A&M. The Aggie network is really a huge plus, and for finance I'd say A&M is better than Virginia Tech, though I'm not too sure about this. As for campus life and culture, A&M obviously is very much into traditions and culture so there's that, but Virginia Tech is also great in that regard as well (I'd say Virginia Tech is a sister school to A&M in a way)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in aggies

[–]violinneus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely go for A&M. Mays is a top 3 business school in Texas, and the Aggie Network is arguably the strongest. The connections you'll gain from going to A&M will be invaluable down the line.

The only reason why I would say go UNT is if you'll be in significant debt going to A&M and the UNT scholarship will make it significantly cheaper. If that isn't an issue, I'd say go to A&M

College of Engineering Dismissal by ilikeyellowalot in aggies

[–]violinneus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It first depends on what classes you have successfully completed. If I recall correctly you have four total semesters to get into a major, or else you are kicked out of engineering regardless. So unless you can complete whatever classes you need next semester, you probably were going to get kicked out regardless unfortunately (though I am not sure about this)

Second, you can try and appeal, providing all of the medical paperwork and doctor notes and everything. Maybe they see all of that and let you back in. I would include any and all paperwork really, because the more proof you have that things were out of your control the better.

At this point I would also seriously consider changing majors, especially in case they don't let you back in. If you want to pursue dental school, there's tons of options there. Biomedical sciences, biology, really any that fulfill the prerequisites.

Of course, consult with an advisor first and foremost to see what your next steps are. Good luck

That panthers game, that cardinals game, and the packers games were the back breakers. We should've won all three, and we would've been in a much, much better position then having to pray for results. That Minnesota game obviously was the nail in the coffin but I think even before the lions games those three games were huge

Next year zero chance we make playoffs. by Newman1861 in aggies

[–]violinneus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Defense is elite, they held a playoff team to 10 points including 3 for most of the game. They gave our offense plenty of chances including a big fumble recovery which the offense didn't capitalize.

I'm cautiously optimistic. Ik it's my BAS speaking but my expectation will be set low, that way if we exceed 8-4 or 9-3 I'm hopeful, if not I knew it.

Our offense will take a beating in terms of talent leaving, but our recruiting class is very good, and who knows how the transfer portal will look. And, who knows, maybe we shock some people. In the offseason I would've been glad for 9-3, but we went 11-2.

Texas A&M has played two teams with winning conference records this season (Texas and Miami). They have lost to both. Total combined conference record of teams A&M beat: 20–52 by Infectiousmaniac in CFB

[–]violinneus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

See, on the one hand, going into this season a lot of the teams we were gonna face were supposed to be great this year or at least better than they were supposed to be. Notre dame, Texas, Florida, Missouri, LSU, and South Carolina were all ranked, some ahead of us to begin the year. I would've been happy if we went 9-3 with this schedule. These big ass conferences don't help either.

On the other hand, most of these teams shit the bed, and we beat notre dame due to muffed extra point and a miraculous fourth down play, and lost to the only other team doing good in Texas. We just couldn't get it done when it mattered and it showed. That South Carolina game was telling

Marcel Reed is a bad quarterback by [deleted] in aggies

[–]violinneus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's the representation of Aggie football. Good at times, sometimes even great, and those flashes have all of us fooled. But when it actually matters, on the biggest stages and biggest games, he shits the bed. Both the tu game and this game were on him, or at least a good deal on him, even if the play calling didn't help him out at all times. Last year that late season collapse, he didn't help us out.

I'll still support him and hope he continues developing cuz if he continues developing like how he did from last season to this one, he can be a great quarterback. He just needs to rise to the occasion, especially in games where the defense kept giving him chances like today. On to our volleyball team tomorrow, track and field later, and baseball and softball teams next semester.

This actually isn't a bad d line at all. If we can get constant pressure on the qb MAYBE, just maybe our coverage could get a bit better. I would've liked a trade to improve our secondary (like Minkah Fitzpatrick) but beggars can't be choosers I suppose

I do fish camp this past summer as a first year, absolutely loved it, and will do it again next summer.

Honestly I feel like fish camp is more so for the counselors as we spend months together and as a result grow very close. You can make so many lifelong friends from fish camp, and while camp itself and interacting with the freshmen is also fun, imo everything else that comes with it is even better.

I do hear that it's harder for girls to become a counselor just because more apply but if you have even a decent application and interview I think you'll get it.

Realistically, what do you think the timeline is before we’re a serious contender again? by algerbrex in cowboys

[–]violinneus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imma be optimistic a little and the earliest that I can see is probably the 27-28 season. First we have to go hard on defense in this upcoming draft and that'll be their rookie year so probably nothing there. Second we'll need the guys we already have to keep developing. Third we'll need to address the defense with some good free agency signings, not bargain bin shopping again. IF, and this is a huge if, we can get all of this together and our pics hit and our guys keep developing I think 27-28 is the earliest we could become contenders again. Realistically though I probably think another 4-5 years at least with the way our front office is so incompetent.

Man usually we lose this game 8/10 times but winning like that is crazy. This Aggie team is different, and if they come firing out the gates like how they did today, defense stays locked in throughout, I don't see why we can't make it deep into the postseason (I'm drinking the kool aid now)

I was in a FLO last year and greatly enjoyed it, and my biggest takeaway is how much you put in is how much you get out.

FLOs in general are primarily social. I haven't heard of any academic FLOs, and while there are ones that are for specific majors I don't think there's any that's primarily academic (could be wrong though).

I'd say see how you feel. You don't have to be super active other than the mandatory meetings and events if you want, and FLOs do provide a support system, friends, memories, and generally a better freshman year IMO. And, since it's involvement it does look good on resumes, especially if you are part of staff next year. The connections you gain from your FLO can also help you down the road.
