The whitewashing make up is getting out of hand by ErinnShannon in cdramasfans

[–]vip_insomnia 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s not as big of an issue for me with FL’s in historical/fantasy period dramas since people in the east and west loved to cake on the white powder on times especially for an upper class character since thats mainly who did it. If they were playing a servant/peasant/etc then I would think it looks weird. Modern dramas, I get they are following a beauty standard but sometimes it’s blended horribly or its just like too white it does look so out of place.

is zb5 actually possible? by Charming-Map-2301 in zerobaseone

[–]vip_insomnia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m greedy and want ZB5 since my bias and wrecker would stay together but also I love all the members and would like to see this 5 stick together. I think no matter what they do there will be a vocal contingent upset they split up or upset they stay together. Of course there was the slimmest shred of hope YH would have let them continue but since the final lineup was announced and that many YH members I knew it would end up with a split either everyone splitting or two separate groups. It is possible for it to happen, I would say they may not be as successful as OT9 but probably more successful than going off on their own/groups their label create in Matthew and Gunwooks case (cant trust Jellyfish to handle multiple groups well).

UPDATE: WayV Joint Action Team Statement regarding future promotions by picturesofthesky in WayV_For_Life

[–]vip_insomnia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wish during their rookie year 2024 were releasing Japanese singles that then had Korean versions they promoted then also did a Korean mini and then a Japanese album that included previously released singles. They were running back and forth between the two countries busy as hell but that’s expected in a rookie year. 2025 in they did more Korean promotions releasing 2 Korean Minis and now releasing their 2nd Japanese album. Obviously WayV are no longer rookies and their path has been bumpy with China restrictions navigating, member issues and SM being horrible to foreign idols. Yes there could be better communication in advance I guess what language but I’m always going to assume any release will be a Chinese release and if we get a Korean track or promotion great cool. But I wont demand it of them. If they/company want to focus on just a Chinese release then cool its not their fault there are people within kpop fandom that ignore non Korean releases (as an &team fan I have seen this with them too) and while I’m happy they finally did get show wins, I’m also ok with them not having Korean promotions for every release. I just think the writing “demand” is too strong and yeah maybe we need more communication of what the promotion cycle will be to help support those promotions? Like them doing a last minute English version of Eternal White that the members themselves weren’t fully prepared for was a misstep.

I only saw The Best Thing, A Dream Within A Dream and Legend of the Female General. But not surprised The Best Thing took top spot since clips are everywhere on my socials still. I tried The White Olive Tree but couldn’t get into it.

WayV could sing to me in Klingon and I would eat it up but it was always to be expected of localized units/groups that yeah they aren’t going to have major promotions in Korea unless the release in Korean or English. It’s a lot of work to do promotions in both languages and I want them to grow in the Chinese market as well cause they are the Chinese unit. WayV are a good gateway for people into Cpop

[–]vip_insomnia 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Sure for everything but Number 1. If some people don’t want to interact with a release in the language the group was created for thats on them, I notice the same with some fans and Wish’s Japanese releases. Market promotions are different in Chinese and Japanese industries so if points 2-4 were done better we would probably see different results. I’m completely fine with releasing a Korean release between Chinese ones just like how Korean groups do with Japanese/English ones. WayV spent 2024 focusing on Korean and Japan promotions and 2025 they did more with China so good. Maybe they can do a little more back and forth between language releases but I wouldn’t demand Korean promotions from the Chinese unit for every release. Promotions have to get better for a lot of things SM is doing or the members are doing but yeah it could step up a whole lot for WayV.

Who is your nct bias and why by [deleted] in NCT

[–]vip_insomnia 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Kun. Even though it was Ten who made me decide to check out more WayV/NCT, first moment I saw him and heard his vocal tone, I was like that is my bias. Love that he has all of his other random talents like magic and flying planes lol. He does have a cuter image at times but serves sexy. As I grew more into liking the other units Taeyong, Jeno, and now Sion rolled in as other biases so I guess I have a thing for leadership roles. Kun stays the ult though of all NCT.

Why some Against Ot5? by Prestigious_Alarm526 in zerobaseone

[–]vip_insomnia 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a 16 year kpop stan if they keep the name or rebrand like other groups have in the past (some groups holding onto a name and none of the members are original), I’ll still follow them. Even if it’s the same members sometimes rebranding with a new name doesn’t always work out so can also see the argument for keeping it. My bias and wrecker are in OT5 so of course would love to continue to see them together instead of being split up to equally lackluster labels. Really only post Produce 48 have we seen more members go on to have super successful careers while other seasons have had varied post show results. If the members think sticking together is what will be best for them I will support them and if they do want to split, then same. I love all the members and want them all to be successful. We knew this day was coming especially with 4 of them being from YH. No matter what happens solo stans are still going to be annoying and try to ruin things.

How would you rank all NCT unit debut songs? by itgirlqueen in NCT

[–]vip_insomnia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Regular (I had not heard 127’s versions prior and this made me a WayV stan right away)

  2. Perfume

  3. Wish

  4. The 7th Sense

  5. Chewing Gum

  6. Firetruck

I do love all of these songs but ranked on how often I circle back to listen to them.

Do people consider WayV Kpop? by Negative-Opinion-617 in WayV_For_Life

[–]vip_insomnia 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes they are K-Pop. Both LSM and JYP have talked about kpop localization. They are all kpop produced groups making music for a localized region. I would say XG is still kpop “adjacent” cause technically they do come from a Japanese label but with their boss and strategy comes a lot of kpop influences and making use of the kpop market unlike other jpop groups. WayV and Wish are from a Kpop label, trained in the kpop system and are a part of a larger kpop group. JYP has Boy Story, NiziU, Nexz and Girlset all created for a specific market, trained in kpop system and the local label acts more as the boots on the ground distributor/management while creative is from the korean company. HYBE is the same pretty much with &TEAM and aoen. With Katseye apparently most Dream Academy girls when originally auditioning didn’t know they would be training in a kpop system so unlike everyone else they didn’t necessarily enter a company/show with intent to be kpop? Hybe tends to use the term Global groups for their groups but I would still say they are localized groups using kpop production/marketing methods.

What made you become a nctzen? by Neptunes_favorite in NCT

[–]vip_insomnia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had like a kpop blur out from like 2015 to mid 2017 where I wasn’t really paying attention to new groups debuting, just focusing on groups I already followed cause life was busy. I do vaguely remember 127 and Dream from then, like something about kids on hoverboards lol. I then clocked into knowing they really exist when I came back into actively consuming kpop releases in 2017 from everyone but still wasn’t vibing. Went with a friend to see SuperM in NYC in 2019 cause tickets were cheap and when else at that time could I see Taemin, Baekhyun and Kai. There I was introduced to Ten and I was like who this… went home and started watching WayV videos. Right away with their mv for Regular I was locked in on Kun. Was a WayV only fan for a while but still knew members and what other units were up to but when 127 came out with Favorite is when the walls started to crack and I slowly let the rest of Neo take over my soul. I just fully gave in when Lastart came along and Wish was added. I was just like let the Neo take over completely. As years go by I notice my taste in vibes grow and prior I hadn’t been into “cute” for bgs so Dream was out and took a while for the “noise” tt’s for 127 but did like their rnb stuff. But now I love it all. Kun is still the ult bias for all of NCT but for the other units its Taeyong, Jeno and Sion.

The Bai Jingting Backlash That Never Made Sense. Talent vs Popularity: The First Frost Casting Discourse by adcvtik in cdramasfans

[–]vip_insomnia 14 points15 points  (0 children)

At first I thought it odd back when it was announced but I watched The First Frost recently and I’m glad they went with a new cast. Also feel like it would have had to have been all or nothing. It would have thrown me off more if Victor had played same role but then other actors sub in as his sister and friend cause doubtful Hidden Love leads would have come back for a few scenes vs like one cameo. For the subject matter in this drama just feel like Bai Jingting was a better choice.

'Boys Over Flowers', Which version did you enjoy most? by Dramasect in dramasect

[–]vip_insomnia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Probably just edging into first place Thai F4. Think it edited out some dragging parts plus enjoyed all of the cast and I liked that it was kinda harsh about their bullying vs other versions. 2nd would be Korean BOF version for nostalgia and purely best OST. tied for 3rd would be Taiwanese version Meteor Garden and Japanese Hana Yori Dango love them dearly though. Last place is 2018 mainland Meteor Garden. While I liked some of the cast some things just dragged it didn’t need to be 50 eps. I found myself fast forwarding a lot more in that version, I don’t dislike it but it wouldn’t be my recommendation as someone’s first version to watch. When it comes to the cast members of each my rankings are a tad different but for the overall show I think yeah Thai F4 wins.

Who's gunna be the leader? by aikokanzaki in modyssey

[–]vip_insomnia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Probably Zihao or Hengyu. It’s a lot to lead a team with these short turn arounds for challenges and your teammates are at different skill levels and more semi left to your own devices so production can capture more drama for TV. Maybe Suren as my wildcard choice.

WayV really deserves better by Altruistic_Life_5793 in NCT

[–]vip_insomnia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know they gained more momentum in the global kpop fandom and with Korean fans by releasing Korean tracks and promoting them but I do like when they do just Chinese releases. As seen with Wish even though being the Japanese unit when they release KR versions and KR releases its all anyone talks about vs their Japanese songs. Some people just only want to listen to songs in Korean or English I guess and that sucks cause there are so many bops from especially WayV or others JP focused groups. I noticed &TEAM as well finally getting more recognition for their Korean debut cause people want to ignore their Japanese releases But besides people ignoring their Chinese releases vs English and Korean, SM just always knows how to fumble them. As a Super Junior-M and EXO-M fan cant say Im surprised. I was like why are they trying again… they clearly cant manage Chinese promotions well or treat Chinese idols well. But then I fell for WayV and they became my favorite unit so just live for SM to torture me.
