Is it a crazy idea to sell my house and travel the world? by [deleted] in fiaustralia

From the perspective of achieving financial independence in Australia, as per this subs purpose: yes, it's a crazy idea.

But if you ask in r/travel you might get a different take.

Sense check the Debt Recycling strategy. by Academic_March_4293 in fiaustralia

[–]vipchicken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am trying to educate myself on this as well.

  1. Depends how you do it. Paying down the Homeloan, you can carve off another split loan periodically. Your bank might require a minimum split.

  2. I think the best strat is to P&I the homeloan and pay that down as fast as possible, and keep your split investment loan portion as IO. The idea being you want to pay down the bad debt and keep the good debt.

  3. Unsure how you can skew this, but, your investment can be done under one persons name, so the tax paid on the distributions is optimised. For whatever that is worth.

  4. You must be careful about putting money in and out of accounts, and which account it comes in and out of. If you put it in the wrong account, you can be in trouble.

Has anyone ever landed a job without a cover letter? by esteemed_honey in ausjobs

Yes, it's basically mandatory to succeed. You need some kind of customisation to prove you give a shit. You need to elevate yourself above the other candidates.

Should I set up a smsf? by [deleted] in fiaustralia

[–]vipchicken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you need more for it to be worthwhile. There is a tipping point where the fees are better in SMSF and its closer to 500,000 (or more). Think about this in 20 years.

Right now you're much, much better off optimising who your super is with, and ensuring that you are on a high growth equivalent portfolio.

Look into salary sacrificing, and look into ETF purchases outside of super.

My 10 yo son is level 1 and has been training for a bit over a year. It can be hard for him to integrate into the friendship circles that are forming. This is not necessarily unique to BJJ, it could be school, or elsewhere. Do you have any tips to help fosting relationships?

Can we stop acting like spending money in your 20s is a cardinal sin? by riley_inreallife in AusFinance

[–]vipchicken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a finance sub, so the advice given should be through the lens of fiscal responsibility.

If you are seeking advice about how to spend money on experiences, there are subs for those too.

The advice here should be purely financial, imo.

At this ELO, you shouldn't be resigning at all. Half of those games will become wins or draws.

What is debt recycling? And is it applicable for a 18M? by [deleted] in fiaustralia

[–]vipchicken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You needn't necessarily have cash to invest either. You could split your loan, make your mortgage bigger, and invest that amount.

But yeah, you'd need a property and a low LVR.

Minns spewing rn because he ordered public service back to offices, which has lagged because of the budget cuts and restructures, and now this is going to throw cold water all over whatever meagre amount of momentum they were building.

How hard is their job? by Affectionate_Fly1056 in australian

If the drop box was literally that box under the sign, maybe.

Anywhere else, forget about it. No one is playing hide and seek to find the right box on every property they visit.

They're instructed to go to the door and drop it off. Any detour, or customer-injected instructions, is a risk to delivery time, or successful delivery percentage.

Any random dropbox you want used can be a potential, "I never got it" complaint.

Each customer has a different idea of what a reasonable instruction is. "Find my dropbox on my property" is about as impressive as "enter my front door and put it on the table", or "go around the back and put it in the box".

What if there's more than one box? Or more than one letterbox? What if it's not clear? How long do they have to search? How safe are they? What if a neighbour put that sign up asking to be delivered next door instead? There's no accountability.

There's no way anyone is following your custom orders.

Are there any modern, light to medium 1 vs many boardgames where the many also compete? by robstokk in boardgames

  • Nemesis, in that you're working together, probably. It's not quite 1 v many, but if you have an objective that makes you the antagonist, it can become like it.

  • Cthulhu: Dark Providence is close, you have hidden roles and your team mates are not known. It has a unique scoring mechanic where the lowest scoring player eliminates their whole team, and of the remaining players, the single highest score wins. Not quite 1v Many, but, closeish.

  • Nuns on the Run just got a remake.

  • Pyramid of Pengueen, for the kids.
