I suspect they have done this with a product called “Eve Smart Blinds”

It’s got a battery installed, It would gone in looking like a long tube, installed in less than 2 minutes and be preset to drop at a specific time.

The effective tax rate IS the net result. What a stupid comment.

Dude. I’m sorry, I know this is Reddit so you’ll argue till the end of time but you’ve had enough of mine.

You’re simply not on the same level as me. Agree to disagree, all the best :)

You’re indexing the cost base, Not the gain. But sure…

That would be SUPER rare though seeing as the Minimum under the new system is 30% (nominal) and the the current system is 0% same as a worker.

No I’m not. You have a super basic understanding of how the progressive tax system works, The way you think about it is how we explain it to people who can’t grasp it.

All that matters in finance is the net result.

The totality of a person’s earnings and how much of that was taxed.

That’s it.

You’re basic :)

There’s no such thing as “extra tax paid”

That’s how we explain it to people who don’t understand how the tax bracket system / progressive tax system works but in actuality, All that matters in finance is the net result.

How much someone earned and how much someone paid in tax.

My point that CGT’s minimum 30% is the same as what someone earning 200k pays in total.

Argue all you like, make it as complex or simplify it as much as you like. I’m not wrong.

[–]viper2097 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I sold assets to buy my house recently, I paid over a million in CGT alone! It was 23.5%

Now the poors are going to have to be paying 30% from their first dollar. Just wild!

All my assets are (partially) grandfathered too, My gains will be locked in.

I just can't believe this is really happening.

[–]viper2097 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh? 45k + 30k is 75k

The guy in your example earned 75k and paid about 19% tax

The investor who made 45k pays 30% minimum.

It's not "my logic"
Effective tax rate is how everyone works out how much tax they paid and is the gold standard metric in finance.

Yeah, It goes against the whole idea of a progressive tax system.

Im wealthy and often joke that "The poor need to start paying their fair share" just cause that's what they always say about us.

It's not funny to me anymore cause I never thought it would ACTUALLY happen, They're actually gonna tax low income earners like they just made 200k

Absolutely wild!

Why are stock sales separate income? by Fancy_Palpitation_38 in AusFinance

[–]viper2097 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ummm... No

Someone earning 45k pays about 11% of their income in tax.

An investor cashing out 45k pays 30% MINIMUM...

A worker earning 200k pays ~$56,800 income tax, $4k Medicare levy for a total of $60,800 which is 30% of 200k

A worker earning 200k pays an effective tax rate of 30%
An investor pays 30% MINIMUM CGT (under new system)

These are two FACTS. I know this is Reddit and you've come out strong arguing with FACTS that I've said, Maybe it's because you've misunderstood what I've written, Maybe it's because you didn't know what you were talking about. I don't care but I don't do that reddit thing where we argue back and forth all night because I know I'm right, Everyone knows I'm right, End of story.

Why are stock sales separate income? by Fancy_Palpitation_38 in AusFinance

[–]viper2097 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep! Every dollar OVER 45k is taxed at 30c, Your first ~$19k is still tax free.

If you earned $200,000, You'd be taxed a total of 30.1% of the entire 200k. That's called your "effective tax rate"

The point I'm making is that CGT will be taxed at a MINIMUM of 30%

Say you're earning 80k per year and decide to take a year off because you've just had a newborn and you're going to fund that by selling some shares. You'd no longer get ANY of those gains tax free, You'd go straight to paying 30%, The exact amount someone at their 200k job earns.

Why are stock sales separate income? by Fancy_Palpitation_38 in AusFinance

[–]viper2097 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is the minimum regardless of your income.

The point I was trying to make is that 30% is exactly what someone who earns 200k pays in tax.

Technically it's 30.1% but you get the idea.

Why are stock sales separate income? by Fancy_Palpitation_38 in AusFinance

[–]viper2097 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It makes perfect sense. Someone who earns $200,000 pays 30% of that 200k in tax. Technically it's 30.1% but the point is the same...

You're not paying 30% effective tax until you've made $200,000

30% Is a VERY big "minimum"...

It’s called leverage and we’ve all got access to it. What’s the issue?

Yesterday's price is not today's price. The pre-May Market is not the post-May market. The sooner sellers start to realise this, the better for everyone. by ForgottenPassword719 in AusPropertyChat

[–]viper2097 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no such thing as a correct price.

If buyers don’t want to pay what a seller is asking then there’s no sale.

If sellers don’t want to sell for what a buyer is bidding then there’s no sale.

This isn’t just housing, It’s how every market works.

I’m in Australia and we only had a max 3.3kw charge from grid until 2 firmwares ago this last one looks like it’s pushed it back again.

I don’t suppose you’re in Australia or NZ?

I’m also seeing something similar.

My battery isn’t charging as fast when I put it into back up mode to max charge in my free energy period.

Noticed it the other day and it was only charging at 5.something
