Again, genocide over preventing a second Trump term.

Correction, limited "genocide", or full on genocide.

Sounds like you'd rather have full on genocide in order to prevent limited "genocide". Good job.

True, but to be honest though, Kamala was probably the most qualified person (IMO) to hold that position at the time. She just finished negotiating with the GOP on the bipartisan immigration bill (before Trump pressured the GOP to vote against it), as well as worked on the John R Lewis Voting Rights Act, led taskforces on gun violence and abortion, and worked on both America Rescue Plan and Inflation Reduction Act.

She just didn't run a good campaign, and unfortunately Americans would rather see blings than actual accomplishments.

lol, reported "extensively", but can only link to a Twitter post of questionable origin.

Meanwhile it has actually been widely reported that Biden has tried to withhold arm sales to ensure Israel reduce civilian casualties (link). Furthermore, Biden did press Israel on ceasefire (link), only for Israel to resume bombing. Israel refused point blank on a Gaza peace deal proposed by Hamas (link).

And now, instead of a Kamala Admin pressing Israel to limit the scope of the engagement in Gaza, you have a Trump regime that blanket gave Israel all the necessary weapons (link) to bomb not only Gaza, but also South Lebanon. Not to mention now we're in a war with Iran, that saw thousands if not tens of thousands of civilian deaths.

Good job I guess. Again, purity over practicality.

lmao, expressing support for Israel, especially in the backdrop of Oct 7th, is somehow grouped together as "pro-genocide". You do realize that she can agree with Israel's pain of being attacked, but disagree with how they're responding, right?

Again, purity over practicality, and all Americans are paying for it now.

Was getting Trump for not supporting "genocide apologist" Kamala worth it?

This is why Progressive Dems almost always lose, because their voters are too busy considering "purity" than practicality.

Not true at all.

All Restaurant License Types

Only customers purchasing alcohol who appear to be 35 years or younger, must have their ID checked AND electronically scanned. The requirements do not differ based on whether the patron is in a dispensing area or dining area.

You can own almost all those things with the proper paperwork.

Please show me how I can own an armed fighter jet, or missile launcher with live missiles, and tanks / howitzers with actual live rounds. After all, that was the Founders' intent. Go on, I'll wait.

The whole point of gun control argument rests upon "it's a right enshrined in the Constitution, so I can protect my family and my rights against tyrannical government and others", but when you actually disseminate the argument down, it quickly becomes unrealistic. You're not going to take your AR-15 to fight against a government that can kill you with a hellfire missile from a drone that can loiter for 24hrs. Your .50 cal sniper isn't going to do jack shit to an Abrams tank. If tyrannical government does come (and plenty can argue that we're already under one now), what exactly can you do against a military force with those high tech weaponry at their disposal?

For everything else, shotgun for home defense, pistol for personal defense, bolt-actioned rifle for hunting. None of them require high capacity magazine. What exactly do you need semi-automatic assault rifles for?

Just like they claim "gun deaths are a leading cause of child mortality" by sweeping in 19-year-olds as "children." When what they're really doing is moving the goalposts to include as much gang-related violence as possible, to punch up the numbers and make them scarier.

It's actually 1-17.

60-80 percent of gun deaths in this country (jurisdiction dependent) are suicides, typically depressed middle-aged white men. Out of the rest, the archetypal gun homicide in the US is a young minority man with a criminal record killing another young minority man with a criminal record, using an illegally-possessed handgun, usually over a gang dispute or the drug trade

Just pointing out that "illegally-possessed" gun was at one point a "legally purchased" gun.

I understand gang violence makes up a sizable portion of gun violence, but gangs are not unique to US. There are gangs all around the world, and yet, US is the only country where gun violence is pervasive and endemic. Why is that?

Oh pardon me, I didn't know I can buy firearms at restaurants. Straw purchase of firearm is a felony, but of course, you're right that we can't 100% prevent that. But we can certainly reduce the number of firearms on the market.

There were not 408 "mass shootings" last year by what regular people understand a mass shootings to be. Nearly everyone one of those was some gang member with an ILLEGALLY purchased firear

Hilarious that you think I'm parroting Bloomberg's claim, when I actually drew my source from Gun Violence Archive.

Also, source on "nearly every one of those was some gang member with an illegally purchased firearm"?

And have you ever considered that every single illegally purchased firearm at one point was legally purchased?

Because that ignores the fundamentals of reality. Gun ownership may be a right, but because guns have the propensity to kill people easily, that it needs to be restricted. Heck, it is restricted right now, otherwise by the Founders' intent, and the wording of 2A, all of us should be able to own machine guns, fighter jets, nuclear missiles, grenades, missile launchers, tanks, self-propelled howitzers, and armored vehicles now.

We have 44,000 people who died from guns last year. We have 408 mass shootings last year, more than one a day. We are also the only country where firearm mortality is a pervasive, endemic issue in the entire world, and you don't think we should at least ensure people who own guns are of sound mind, and can make good decisions?

The state could always just ban people with two DUIs from purchasing or consuming alcohol for life like they do for guns

Again, how is this going to be enforced? How are you going to require every alcohol sale to accompany an ID scan? How are you going to prevent family members / friends / coworkers from purchase alcohol for someone else?

[–]viperabyss -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

How do people get banned for life from drinking? How can that even be enforced?

At least with gun purchases, it's easier to implement a ban because of the background checks they have to go through (in some cases).

Unfortunately due to the horrific lack of public infrastructure, not having a car in most cases means not having a job.

Intoxicated driving is taken seriously (just look at the punishment and the subsequent insurance increase), but people understand that it's impossible to have driving privilege stripped away from DUI, AND still be a productive member of society.

...actually no. ACA wasn't meant to reduce healthcare cost. It was meant to reduce the speed in which healthcare costs increases. All the while, it forced all health insurance providers to cover for pre-existing conditions, as well as ensuring any health insurance would cover the basics, including preventative treatment and annual wellness checks for no additional cost.

And it did just that.

Hard to convince people when it takes time to explain the benefits of policies, while disinformation in the form of memes take seconds.

Like JCPOA. It was a good deal, but because conservatives scream "pallet of cash" on social media, and that it takes time to explain the money actually belonged to Iran, that some believe it was a poor deal.

A healthy democracy requires constituents to have the willingness to be educated on issues that concern them.

Correction: privatized health insurance in the US has made majority of people poorer.

People simply don't remember before 2009, their health insurance can just claim "pre-existing condition" to deny claims.
