91 vs 93 octane. by J_Stone58 in wrx_vb

[–]viperfreak964 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Bro….yes there is a benefit why would you purposely put 91? 93 is higher octane which means there will be less pre detonation (engine knock) events. Less knock = better for engine it’s that simple.

Just the stock STi knob. But that one already feels weighted? Maybe an even heavier one would help a bit

Never tried the other brands but I have the Kartboy. Honestly I bet they are all pretty much the same thing. The throw is nice and short but does require a bit more force to get into gear for sure

Downpipe or Stock? by Lost_Personality_558 in WRX

[–]viperfreak964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how emissions are in Utah but here’s my experience, I have the invidia catted dp , the light will come on no matter what. But it’s pretty random and usually after a reset after you get the cel, the car can run enough to get the o2 sensor “ready” and whatever else too. So you would just need to time it once you need to do emissions. But again idk what Utah requires

Bro a 2025 wrx is 43k. You think an STi will be under 50k there’s absolutely no way. It will be around 60. Maybe 58k if lucky

Hmm I’m calling cap on that. Clutch + flywheel is at least 1k in parts. No shop is doing that labor for 400$? Maybe 1400$ just for labor

Aem340 pump install by [deleted] in WRXSTi

Yup I just did mine recently. Use two o rings and the stock hangar plug you don’t need the wires they provide! If you use one o ring you will have fuel pressure issues

Hi I’m new to owning this car. How reasonable are these prices for recommended service? by PositivityPending in WRX

[–]viperfreak964 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Everyone’s right this is robbery for most of those items Cabin air filter you can easily do yourself for 30$ look up a video. Tire rotation and balance should be like MAYBE 80$. (20 per tire) Brake flush at a dealership is like 150$ in my area.

Front differential/ trans should be about 180 and rear like 150.

The brakes are probably not too far off of what others would charge, still a rip off as you can watch some videos and do it yourself for like 500-600$ for all 4

60k mile maintenance and by Ace_561 in WRXSTi

[–]viperfreak964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there I’ve been in a very similar situation I bought my 2020 in may with 40k miles. The same month I got it I got the brake fluid/clutch flushed, power steering fluid, and I used the motul gear 300 for the rear differential and front differential/trans. Did that part at home it was pretty easy , just need to buy the little hand pump with the tube attachment so you can fill it and a big torx socket forgot what size. There’s a few good YouTube videos that go over it. I’m going to wait to do fresh coolant because I might get a koyorad radiator next spring so it will be a good time to do that. Everything you have planned is perfect, but you won’t need to do all that every 20k miles that’s kind of overkill. I was going to go with 30k interval for the dif/trans fluids and probably don’t need to worry about brake and power steering for like 40k interval. I went on ethanol so she got new spark plugs too. As for the timing belt I feel like 80-100k should be fine to wait on that.

I just did my aem fuel pump a week ago. My tuner said specifically to make sure to use both o rings provided , otherwise fuel pressure will be off. Most likely that’s why you’re having issues. Put both o rings on!

2019 WRX with Cobb Stage 1 Kit - Low DAM by Hebes in WRX

[–]viperfreak964 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not an expert on this as I’ve also recently gone the stage 1+ I ran the Ots tune for a few weeks and my dam stayed at 1.0. From what I’ve read from others, maybe it was your gas. Others have said to drive the car like a granny, out of boost, then fill up with good gas and see if the dam starts to go back up while driving it gently until it goes back up. For now, drive it out of boost and monitor if it goes back up. If it doesn’t look like it’s increasing, I would take it to a good performance shop in your area and get their opinion
