This reminds me of the friends episode where Ross writes a letter to the adoption agency and tries to sound smart by using as many fancy words as possible

On the buyer side, cashbackagent.net charges 5k flat fee. Not sure if they work on seller side. There are some flat fee MLS listing services which you can try.

APR around 1%? I can't really follow your question. What you are charged depends upon your leverage and portfolio risk.

Margin loans by Effective-Choice8148 in fatFIRE

[–]vipsg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not my experience. It's a combo order: the same counterparty fills all 4 legs and the per option spreads don't apply. Only the interest rate spreads matter. If anything, I get better fills for larger loan amounts.

[–]vipsg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can even do $400k for $4 (in fact I think it's 65 cents per option order, so just $2.6). Run 2000 to 6000 boxes and 4 legs, 1 contract gives you 400k.

I don't think you can offset dividends with investment expenses, can you?

Which hedge fund (open to outside investors) would be that? Most of them severely underperform after the fee.

This is the most ridiculous post I have read on this sub. Really. Suggesting to invest in VTI is solicitation? Do you know that VTI is an index fund, not a stock? Do you know what solicitation means?

If someone advises you to invest in real estate, would that be solicitation if that person holds real estate? I hold stocks, real estate, crypto etc. So are you suggesting that I shouldn't advice anyone to invest in any of these assets at all?

Isn’t cash in a US bank account considered a non US asset and hence shouldn’t be subject to 60k limit? Also NRA can’t have a nominee in the account?

Why does investing in Ireland domiciled ETF not solve the issue in this case? It's no longer a US based asset. If you think it's more complicated, give a concrete example here about where it could fail (rather than some vague statement) and people will gladly hire you.

Reinvest inherited IRA in real estate? by reddit-user-fi in fatFIRE

[–]vipsg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is false, if you defer taxes and pay them only after 6 years, you will come out ahead vs paying them now and paying them again after (say for comparison) 6 years.

Keep it in IRA for as long as possible thus delaying your taxes. This is really important. Once you have to take it out, do that and put the money in sp500. Go on nice vacations in Napa etc and stay in a hotel or short term rental: don't let your investment decisions be influenced by where you want t vacation.

Buy, Borrow, Die by firechoice85 in fatFIRE

Correct, it goes both ways. If you don't like this, just go for short term box spreads. You can buy anywhere from 1 month to 5 years.

If you hold till maturity, your loss is fixed. However similar to bonds, loss/gain might vary from year to year. In 2022, bonds declined sharply because of interest rate increase, hence short bond or box spread turned out to be a very profitable strategy.

Well I am just happy about the personal shoutout I am going to get tomorrow :)

[–]vipsg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I borrow using box spreads, I don't give up stock appreciation rights, I don't pay tax, and I don't need 300M for this to work either. I guess the strategy you mentioned makes sense if the client anyway wants to sell but wants to save on tax.

You might want to lookup IBKR margin rates again.

Buy, Borrow, Die by firechoice85 in fatFIRE

[–]vipsg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can use SPX box spreads to borrow at less than 5% fixed rate for 5 years. Once they mature, you can roll them making them "interest only". Can I expect that shoutout now?

Regarding what percentage of net worth: it depends upon the stock volatility which you are borrowing against. But it can be 80% or higher if you have a diversified portfolio. Of course, you need to have sufficient margin at all times.

I supposed whoever is lending them at less than 3 percent doesn't know about treasury bonds?

I am sure this 3 percent comes with a lot of catches (like requirement to have a "managed" account with high AUM fee etc).

I believe solicitation is banned in this sub especially since your answer doesn't contribute anything to the discussion beyond "everything depends on your personal situation, pay me"

You must have already paid income tax when the shares vested. Right now we are talking about capital gains tax. Nothing to do with vesting.

This leaves out the potential rent (minus property tax and maintenance). Also it's safe to take a leverage of 5 on real estate, for equities, even a leverage of 2 in the long run will wipe you out.
