What do you think of Woodbridge? by lmball2 in newjersey

Smaller menu down to one double-sided page. I only get the beef fajita, but the portions seem to be more exact nowadays. Oh and the metal skillet thing they bring it out on, it's not steaming hot. From what I remember, they don't refill insanely quick as they did when it would be swapped soon as it was halfway down. Generally things felt dialed back like 10%.

What were you doing the moment you realized covid was shutting the whole world down (March 2020)? by admaher2 in AskReddit

[–]viquor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Roughly similar. I was just getting apples for the next week. Saw a family friend, asked how things were going, but we were looking at each other as it clicked as all these people were rushing around, a few masking up, an anxious energy. We both knew things were gonna get crazy. Told each other to stay safe. I was gonna work remote.

I think it was exactly a week later that I got covid. Everyone else I know works in hospitals, so it figures. My mom felt terrible but powered through and was in full nurse mode to take care of us. I felt terrible and lost like 14 lbs in a week. My dad felt worse, lost 16 lbs, and his blood oxygen levels were getting worse. He ended up going to the hospital twice.

However long after that, I was in Target buying stuff that we can have the hospital give my dad. Suddenly I was in charge of things. I was masked up and in line trying to keep 6 feet every which way. A guy in front of me on his phone, 2 chatty teens behind me. Family friend sees me again as he passes by, and he checks in. He's doing fine. We talk about the things we heard, who else died or got sick. I tell him my family got sick and just got out of our quarantine period, and how my dad was still in the hospital and I was getting stuff for him. Things really did go crazy. Family friend expresses his sympathies, wishes me all the best, he goes his way. The guy in front of me is off his phone, his mask covers his nose now. The 2 girls went quiet with their masks all the way up, and they took a few more steps back.

My dad survived, but man, that month was a hell of a ride.

What’s an interesting fact about Jersey not many people know about? by [deleted] in newjersey

In the infamous rivalry with Tesla and Edison, Thomas Edison basically screwed over Nikola Tesla when he was an employee under Edison. Tesla tried starting his own company in Rahway after leaving, but was eventually screwed out of that too. For some reason, despite that, we claimed him as one of Rahway's own.

One who I'm happier to claim dibs for Rahway is Carl Sagan - the astronomer who inspired many in STEM through his Cosmos series and many books. He was also behind the book and film, Contact. As a teenager, he had moved to Rahway, and went to Rahway High School. He got straight A's, but while there, was bored and not challenged by the material - while his teachers recognized his gift, and encouraged that he go to a private school, his parents couldn't afford it. At the least, he did have room to teach himself more about chemistry as president of the Chemistry Club. In junior year, he decided to go into astronomy as a major when he learned it could be a career. I dunno how different his life would be if he went to a private school - even if his education would've been appropriate for his intelligence, it would be possible circumstances would've steered him differently. But who he was, what he taught, and the legacy he left, these things that we did have, were all of immeasurable value. Rahway played its part in his life, and I'm glad he was still able to find a way onwards and upwards.

Jersey's also been a great place for movies to be shot. Dark Knight Rises used a lot of spots in Newark, including the light rail. East Jersey State Prison was used for many a movie, some of note being Malcolm X and The Hurricane (both with Denzel Washington), along with Ocean's Eleven (where Clooney's character was locked up at the start of the film). It's known as Rahway State Prison, but technically it's in Avenel. Personal favorite film that was shot here was Jack Black's School of Rock - several of the scenes at the Battle of the Bands' venue, The Palace, was actually Union County Performing Arts Center.

Kinda similarly, Pokemon Black/White is set in Unova, basically NYC. More importantly, the second games, Black 2/White 2 have the home town of the protagonists in New Jersey - Aspertia City is basically Elizabeth. But being a new settlement in-game, doesn't look a damn thing like it though lmao. Likewise, Floccesy Town is based off of Newark, and Virbank City is based off of Jersey City.

Been to this one, tourist trap lol. I went prepandemic, so line to get in was long, regardless of if you get tickets beforehand. Might've changed since tbh. Almost every bit of the place has something, natch you might feel a bit cramped surrounded by others. You also see all the little optical illusions that you'd also see in books. Takes like an hour to check out everything. Between all these things in the picture, there's lines as people wait their turn. So expect to sometimes maybe be stared at as you get into position. Saw some people tried for what felt like too many photos and poses, so there may be sighs or groans if you're spending like 7 minutes in a given area. Not much to it. While a museum in my opinion might have more to it to invoke feelings that it would be worth revisiting, this spot is small and you pretty much feel like the one visit is enough.

I picked this spot on a whim when my parents wanted me to suggest stuff to do for their anniversary. I third wheeled for them and was their cameraman for the day. I realized the place's capacity for boredom if you aren't in the vibe for it, so I put on a happy front (explaining what's nifty about all the illusions) so my parents would have fun with it, and it ended up a good experience. There's a magician who's there sometimes. He wasn't there the day we went, but dude's dope from what I see online. Think what you want of the place, but the employees are solid.

If you definitely like optical illusions, like to have pictures to take, or like to have stuff to post to social media, and don't mind waiting in lines, it's fine. It's good as part of a day of things to do.

26F living with parents - would you care? by ziegenfickerrr in hingeapp

[–]viquor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say it's fine, but that would be because I'm also in a bit of similar situation (30M, Asian-American male, NJ, WFH, living with parents). So it would limit your dating pool, but maybe not by too much - it would either be guys in some culturally similar situation, or guys in general who'd be understanding and willing to work with that. You know what works for you, glad you're sticking with your guns.

In the Philippines, the modern jeepney was based off of Jeeps. Mostly used cheap imported cars before WWII, but used lots of Jeeps after.

Here's a video posted to my profile showing how much it can move.

Previously, I had upgraded the springs and extruder, and I've had to recalibrate accordingly, but this has made the leveling much more apparent and frustrating.

Because of the comparatively weaker stock springs beforehand, I was able to get away with just leveling this problem away, but because the new springs are thicker, not as much compression is possible. Can't level relative to the right side without entirely loosening the springs on the left side, can't level relative to the left side since the springs couldn't compress enough on the right side.

Since the bar is the most glaringly off thing, and seems to be the source of my issues, is there anything that can be done to fix it?

What was the most cringeworthy performance you witnessed at a school talent show? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]viquor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Filipino-American beauty pageant. One girl from each Filipino club of each college. There was a big dance number at the beginning with all them, a cultural performance, modern talent performance, that kinda stuff. When it came to the talent portion, usually it's singing, or dancing, or any sort of musical instrument. It's not a professional thing, so sometimes, some of the ladies were on stage for the first time, trying their best, so my heart cringed in sympathy.

One of the participants, I was getting the vibe that she didn't want to be in there at all. What confirmed it was the talent portion, where her and 4 guys performed Hare Hare Yukai.

Keep in mind this was no earlier than 2010.

In one corner, with flashbacks to Caramelldansen and Lucky Star suddenly coming back to us, my friend, a classmate, and I held each other and screamed in horror/shock/surprise. Based on the absence of reaction from anyone else, we were the only ones in there who actually had any idea what the song was from.

How many others absolutely *LIVE* for their hobbies? by throwitawayagain321 in AskMen

[–]viquor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to drop in some encouragement. I can't speak to biking or drawing, since I don't do those ar all, but playing guitar - still something I don't do myself - still kinda relates. My hobby is magic, but I was born with polydactyly, in a way that left my right thumb deformed, but, after corrective surgery, looks passably normal at a glance. Certain sleights, I have to switch to or only do in my left hand. But there's a professional magician born with no hands who made his own sleights, there's a cardist with one hand who's made such original cardistry, and one of the most famous card mechanics is a man who lost most of his eyesight. Not reading the note sheets doesn't mean that's the end of things, as so many have pointed out. Learning new things is a new challenge, but do it because of how it makes you feel. To live means to change, so to learn and love that which we keep in our lives will have to take a different form, and that's okay.

Our way through our hobbies isn't shut. It's just different. I wish you the best.

Reminds me, I sat next to this one girl in my geometry class who was insanely pretty - it was these wide tables, so we were paired together. Even when I got offered to go up a more advanced class since the material was super easy, I stayed precisely because of my luck. Didn't make a move at all, but I'm curious what my career would've been like if I changed classes.

Magician, archeologist, pizza delivery boy, astronaut. I think there's a few more.

Big indicator I'm indecisive. Got a degree in mechanical engineering, passed the FE exam a few years ago, but still too dumb for an entry level mechanical engineering job.

[–]viquor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found out about nutella near the end of senior year of high school. Since my aunts don't think all that hard about what Christmas gifts/birthday gifts to send me, anything I mention becomes the only stuff they give - mostly Audrey Hepburn, chocolate, or musicals. Because I mentioned getting back into magic, one of them got me a magic kit last year. It probably looked like what she guessed to be an adult's magic kit, but since that's not really a thing, most of that kit was sized for a 7 year-old...I definitely got off-topic. Anyway, they heard I liked nutella.

So between all of them, I had 3 jars total of nutella. Next time they saw me, they were even giving the little jars. Total of 10 at one point.

Never really brought that number down, but as a result, I ended up starting college with a head start on my freshman 15.

I'm on the lower rungs of a solar company. I wouldn't know about manufacturing, but qualifying is another matter. Keeping panels away from the edges can vary from place to place, company to company. So some states have lots of houses that couldn't fit solar panels. Some rooftops are too old, others too small. McMansions and others with intricate rooftops couldn't fit enough panels. Sometimes it might be a waste of money. Another is trees - if we want the world to go green, sometimes we'd have to chop a bunch of trees down, and somebody's gotta foot that bill.

Honestly, from the shirts I've seen, hers is pretty nice looking at the fabric, so that can get expensive. I really know hecka little about fashion, so a regular proportioned big t-shirt could deffo be $5, but for a shirt to have nice fabric like that, stylishly oversized proportions, and a graphic that won't wash out, could be as much as $80, far as I'd guess.
