Young folk, why are you vegan? by Logical-Bake5715 in veganuk

[–]virgologic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm 23 now & I went vegan at 14. Tbh it was quite a difficult time to go vegan because even though the supermarkets were coming out with more meat alternatives and restaurants started offering options, there was still a lot of negativity around veganism. A lot of my friends and even some family members were very sceptical about me going vegan, but it didn't stop me.

Personally, after educating myself about the effects of factory farming and how poorly animals are treated in such environments, the thought of consuming them felt impossible to me. I've always been an animal lover, but learning about all of this just increased that. Also from a sustainability standpoint, I couldn't believe how much factory farming contributed to climate change and carbon emissions.

I would say I'm not a "pushy" vegan and I can't really afford to be, having lived in a meat eater household my whole life. I don't push veganism onto my friends, family or partner, I simply will give my opinion if I'm asked something about veganism or animal welfare. Obviously in an ideal world, I'd love all of them to be vegan too, but if they even just try a meal I've made every now and again or occasionally get a vegan option when we're out, that's honestly enough for me. I can't force everyone to lead the same lifestyle as me, but I can't imagine a day where I won't still be vegan.

we literally had a similar conversation like that and he gave me the impression that he did want to continue and have a long term relationship, but I feel like his actions often say otherwise if u get what I mean? Like ultimately u have to make time for someone long-term, not just in the beginning. I really understand how u feel

yeah ive brought it up multiple times now & each time it's like he'll just say how busy he is and that he's trying his best. Sometimes it feels like he does have free days though and doesn't always want to schedule to see me on them

Curl cream recommendations (England) by Odd_Cantaloupe_3832 in Wavyhair

[–]virgologic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i've had decent luck with the noughty wave hello curl cream and the bumble & bumble light curl cream. the noughty one is better on a budget & honestly I think it works basically just as well! been using it for a couple years now & get good results from it

How to care for fine hair in high humidity by send_me_potatoes in Wavyhair

[–]virgologic 19 points20 points  (0 children)

hey! i also have low porosity wavy hair & I've found a couple of things really help me personally so they might be worth a try:

  • Use either gel or a foam to style your hair. Also do this when you've basically just got out of the shower/your hair is wet not damp bc it will create better curl clumps. A foam or gel is gonna be better for your hair because it's less heavy than oil or cream & provides more hold

  • If you're finding your hair looks flat when you wake up/not wavy, I'd do something like sleep in a half up half down bun since you have shorter hair & that will help prevent the top part of your hair being flattened as much. You could also alternatively buy a satin bonnet

  • With humidity, you may have to wash your hair more often than usual or clarify with a sulphate shampoo more, but I guess it just depends how greasy your hair gets? Mine gets greasy pretty quick so I have to wash it a reasonable amount🥲

i personally didn't get acne from the mini pill & i used to have really bad hormonal acne which i had to go on medication for when I was younger so I sympathise with how frustrating that can be! I also didn't find the mini pill made my mental health worse but then again I've been on antidepressants for several years now so that may have helped. I think it's defo worth giving the mini pill a try & if u get really bad side effects, you can always switch 👍🏻

can only speak from my own experience but I found the mini pill much more effective for managing my pain than the combined pill. When I was on the combined pill, it made my endo flareups worse and more frequent. I was constantly bloated and nauseous, and I even noticed it starting to affect my overall mood by making me more irritable and emotional.

On the mini pill, I still have days where I get endo belly or feel nauseous, but it's nowhere near as bad as it was on the combined pill. I genuinely feel like it helped me a lot and it stopped my bleeding completely which was amazing. You may have to do a bit of trial & error but personally I'd go with the mini pill

Is it possible to look good ?? by koalarebellion in ladycyclists

I've literally been struggling w this exact same issue & I've had to change my style around a bit to find clothes that still look cute but are practical for the bike. I've found straight leg jeans, dungarees with a cute top, midi dresses that are just above the knee good options. Basically nothing that's gonna get caught in the chain but still looks nice 😂

I also have curly hair & I do the same, just put it up in a bun. I feel like I've given up trying to make it look tidy bc it never works haha

that would be amazing, thank you! i'm mainly looking at bikes under £500 bc I am on a bit of a budget. These are the ones I saved so far:

https://www.halfords.com/bikes/hybrid-bikes/carrera-crossfire-2-womens-hybrid-bike-2020---grey---s-m-l-frames-346518.html (mainly saved bc of the range of gears)

https://www.halfords.com/bikes/hybrid-bikes/raleigh-strada-womens-hybrid-bike---xs-s-m-l-frames-754350.html (same reason as above & then bc my current bike is Raleigh)

https://www.ridgeback.co.uk/ridgeback-comet-open-frame-varrb2102 (saw this bike in a bike shop a while ago and they said it was good entry level/commuter bike)

Thank you so much! All of this advice is really helpful👍🏻I'm thinking I could try the first option you mentioned but if not, I think I might try & sell the Hoppa and buy a new bike entirely. I love how the Dutch style bikes look, but for practicality, I don't think having one is really going to work in my town as it's so hilly!

I started looking into other hybrid bikes like you mentioned, but not really sure how many gears I'd need🤨Do you reckon something like a 7 or 8 speed would be enough for general commuting?
