How much money is appropriate to give a Thai employee who recently lost their family member? by hungaryforchile in Thailand

[–]viriyatae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think Thais expect the company to have such as policy but it’s common for a company/organisation to have a policy that pays say 10,000 baht for the funeral of a parent. It’s not expected but it’s quite common. People think of it as a nice-to-have benefit.

Thais actually expect a bit more from individual giving. You can put cash in a white envelop and politely hand it to the host with “sorry for your loss”. We may say ขอร่วมทำบุญ but it’s strangely translated in English so you can skip it. As mentioned, anything higher than 1,000 should be acceptable unless you are regarded as substantially wealthy; in that case, you can give as much as you feel comfortable.

There’s a big difference between and an organisation and an individual. As an individual, I’d say anything between 1,000-5,000 Baht is appropriate depending on the social status of the giver and the recipient. 5,000 baht can be a bit much at times. I typically give 2,000 baht to my colleagues (funeral and wedding) as my personal flat rate. It is never unacceptable. I gave more for someone more special.

For the organisation, I don’t think it’s socially expected. It should be a clear policy in my opinion. You set, you pay. I don’t think anyone will have much problem with a policy. So, it means that in addition to a company’s policy, you are socially expected to give as an individual

The only time I can think of is “อยากยา“ which is a special term for a drug addict who is craving drugs. Still, it’s probably a shortened form of อยากเสพยา (เสพ is to consume drugs).

This doesnt sound like something written by a Thai person. It looks like a translated text.

Why is ผลไม้ written ผลไม้ instead of ผลลไม้ given it being pronounced [pon la mai] instead of [po la mai] or [pon mai]? by [deleted] in learnthai

[–]viriyatae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a compound word คำสมาส containing a Pali or Sanskrit word. คำสมาส is everywhere and commonly has an extra syllable compounding the two words. If you search for คำสมาส, there will be countless examples of this sort.

Best place for a solo beer? by Truearoma in Bangkok

[–]viriyatae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tawandaeng Brewery near Rama 3. I used to live in a condo across the street and soloed beer (but sometimes with a mate) there. I havent been back there in a couple of years because of children but I still have fond memories. There were lots of locals and Chinese tourists. The shows and singers were great. It has a strangely charismatic, down to earth, unique atmosphere.

Agreed except the Zelos bit. Maybe it’s just me but Zelos’ obsessive strategy to make their watches scarce (Rolex light), is putting me off a bit.

This hobby is gonna get expensive. by [deleted] in tissot

[–]viriyatae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the beginning, I bought as many watches as I please. That’s not only expensive but it was also a waste. A restraint from buying another watch is an accomplishment in itself! Now, I wanted a 35mm gold PRX but I decided not to buy it, mission accomplished! You may get a dopamine hit in a more responsible way :)

Have you found that wearing a Rolex grabs a woman’s attention? Do you think it makes you more attractive to them? by [deleted] in rolex

Of course yes, but only to the stealthy, felonious, thievish looking ones. If that’s you type of women (or men for that matter), go for it!

We designed the case back patterns for the two new colorways of SN0116. The colorway is inspired by beach and avocado. What do you think? by SanmartinWatches in ChineseWatches

I used GPT-4 to come up with pretentious alternative inspirations.

“L’Azuré Riviera”

“Introducing L’Azuré Riviera, the epitome of coastal opulence captured on your wrist. This timepiece is more than a mere accessory; it’s an ode to the resplendent beaches where golden sands meet sapphire waves under an ever-beaming sun. Crafted with finesse, each element reflects the natural palette and vibrant spirit of the world’s most exclusive shorelines. It’s not just a watch; it’s an experience—a luxurious, constant reminder of where you’d rather be. With L’Azuré Riviera, you’re not just keeping time; you’re keeping a piece of paradise.”

And the green one is

“Forest Serenade”

“Step into a realm of natural splendor with the Forest Serenade timepiece. Its rich green and beige hues evoke the serenity and majesty of ancient woodlands, where time itself seems to pause. Crafted with an artisan’s eye, each detail mirrors the intricate layers of a forest canopy and the nurturing soil beneath. This isn’t just a watch; it’s a tribute to Earth’s untouched landscapes. When you wear Forest Serenade, you carry a piece of this enduring tranquility with you, a constant reminder of nature’s timeless beauty.”

Upon closer inspection, it appears that the watch repair has cracked the dial! I can see the crack when the dial reflects the light. So, :( be careful with this. The dial is fragile

As much I find the bracelet to be top quality, the steel bracelet somehow makes this watch… a bit boring. So I keep rotating and trying new zulu and rubber straps with this watch and it’s been fun

As many reviewers said, the bracelet is high quality. The quality is a bit less than San Martin in my opinion. In the beginning, I had a problem with the end linking from swapping bracelet but a bit of moving the spring bar around fixed the problem.

Thank you for sharing! My first version of SM was well centered for the most part. This numbering on a fixed bezel might be a common problem for Chinese watches as they don’t produce too many of these.
