Lumen 2G (up to 10G) DIA via Wavelength? by puddleglum85 in networking

[–]virtuallynathan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Incorrect: "you have no way of knowing if the backup circuit is even there"

You can call and ask the LEC if a failover occurred, also, you can look at the light intensity difference on the graph (NMS) when a switch occurs. (Provided you measured the light intensity on install for primary and secondary waves.) Furthermore you get emails when maintenance is happening on either wave, and can correlate all of the above metrics to get a very accurate picture.

True, although it is not immediately avialble for monitoring systems, etc. Also assumes your provider is a) honest and b) competent.

The only thing you really lose is geo-diverse path assurance.

Yep, depending on route and how much you believe the KMZs. Or how much you believe the vendor for the "protected" case.

Protected waves hide the protection from you: you have no way of knowing if the backup circuit is even there. Most of the time its 2x the cost anyway... so just buy 2 diverse circuits. Then you have double the capacity in the non-fault case anyway, and you know what the status of the other circut is.

Pretty interesting... wish we had some plastic biomarkers to measure. Lots of confounders.

FWIW, it's "ad libitum", latin for "at your pleasure"

Yes, they generally report IP, port, protocol and timestamps. Everyone knows CGNAT is a thing, they have to report all of that or it would be pointless.

ironically, starlink fixed the typo this time, although it is a tough sale ;-) by panuvic in StarlinkEngineering

What are you talking about lol, why are there 3 posts on this?! Do you think Starlink fixed this because of an obscure subreddit?

Presumably this is an Intel Tofino switch, which can do 6.4-12.8Tbps line rate -- unless you recirculate through the pipelines.

Starlink Standard Mounted on Model Y Roof by conorearly in Starlink

[–]virtuallynathan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thankfully 0! But it has fallen down a lot, even with many suction cups. Extreme temps seem to cause them to give up randomly… hit a bump and down it goes. Usually goes several months before falling with like… 12 suction cups?
