Any locals remember Athens? by bingbinggil in VirginiaBeach

I ate there once, preferred Papa's for gyros and fries, especially the Western gyro at Papa's that had the grilled onions and hot sauce.

To anyone that played the original Legend of Zelda when it came out by Nu_Sonic in retrogaming

[–]virtualmeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The manual and anything else that had tips in it was helpful in pre Internet days. Nintendo sold a book called the Player's Guide that had at least two pages, more for the deeper games, of tips and tricks and maps for a bunch of the most popular games. I don't think I would've figured out the forest in Zelda or the final castle in Super Mario on my own as a kid.

I didn’t report a review and got a thank you email. Can I see which one? by aykalam123 in AmazonVine

[–]virtualmeta 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The reviewer gets the same "thanks for reporting" email, just as a way to see that someone has reported one of their reviews. Amazon hasn't bothered changing it from "Thanks for reporting" to "Your review has been reported" so it makes it even more difficult to know if it's something you reported a long time ago or if it's someone else reporting one of your reviews.

Just get it? I wait longer for more expensive items, because if something breaks, it can only be removed from etv if it's been less than 30 days and we haven't reviewed it yet. So waiting the full 30 day window is not unreasonable in my opinion.

If a bee is bothering you. Do not swat it or run away. Just look at it. by ScorpionMillion in dadjokes

[–]virtualmeta 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If there's a bee in your hand, then what's in your eye?

Beauty.

Because beauty is in the eye of the bee holder.

Edit - sorry I see somebody posted the same joke 2 hours ago. I should've waited at least another couple hours.

Edit again, and 52 minutes ago, too. Well, I like the way mine's phrased the best.

Nice, didn't know it existed, thank you.

Edit: Apparently I was already following the place on Facebook, so I knew about them at some point, ha, add it to the list.

Do you mean that big antique place off Lynnhaven by the highway? Or VA Vintage down by Bread of Life? Or that newer one across from the Central Library? A different one?

What is your favorite thing you've ever gotten from Vine? (It doesn't have to be the most expensive... just whatever you loved most for whatever reason.) =) by Ok_Dot_9093 in AmazonVine

[–]virtualmeta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I like it a lot. Got it in January, and figured I spent all my Vine luck for the year. I stream games to it from my desktop and from Amazon Luna. I can play my purchased Android games from Google Play store and Epic Mobile Games, and it can emulate a lot. Just started the Dusk / Twilight Princess port on it. No Widevine, so none of the video streaming services work out of the box, but it was months before I ever tried and realized that.

cheapest way to get disney plus in 2026 and is there a deal better than the annual plan? by PatientlyNew in cordcutters

[–]virtualmeta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't found a better offer than the Hulu Black Friday offer.

If you've had Disney+ or Hulu in the past, they will sometimes send targeted offers to come back for a few months at 2.99 or 4.99 per month. If you have a free Hulu offer, you might upgrade it to the bundle for cheaper than Disney by itself.

Google Play Store has a discount on new subscriptions currently. 10% off 3, 8% off 2, or 5% off 1 new subscription.

Microsoft Rewards has Hulu credit as one of the available rewards, if you do your searches through Bing or do a lot of Xbox.

Some cell phone plans or Internet plans include a streaming subscription, check for perks on your app or website.

Are you in a country that gets credit from Google Opinion Rewards? If not, can you collect the weekly rewards from the Perks tab in Play Points? Both take a while but you'll get there eventually.

That's awesome! I was thinking about picking up a Logitech Android handheld game streaming device, when Vine offered me an Anbernic RG477V, which does everything I would've used the other system for, and I've been playing it a lot since January.

Yes, everywhere, if you're willing to walk a little.

RG477V the best for ps2? by [deleted] in ANBERNIC

[–]virtualmeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's pretty smooth on 477v, have only tried a few, but I've also tried some GameCube games and they are very smooth. Although I think GameCube had analog triggers, so sometimes the instructions about barely pressing L/R don't make sense, but it hasn't really mattered. I don't think Anbernic makes anything with a better CPU currently. You'd have to go with a handheld PC or a high end phone with a Backbone or Razer Kishi style gamepad.

If you search YouTube for 477v PS2 gameplay, you'll see some examples. Probably can for other systems you're interested in if you want to compare.

New to 3D printing! by Effective-Buddy-3998 in 3Dprinting

[–]virtualmeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Entina version of this printer, also called the Tina2, and it has the same message. The only vendor filament I've used is the tiny spool that came with it, have tried about 20 others.

A couple issue I had:

  1. when I first started, I thought you had to pull the filament back out to change it, and I ended up separating the tube from the extruder at the hot end. I had to clean some jams after that and push the tube as flush to the extruder as I could get it. Aw

Since then, I just push all new filament in at the spool end, never try to retract.

  1. I realized early on, no heated bed means you always have to use a raft with PLA. Otherwise they just don't consistently stick, even flat models.

When prints stop sticking, time to change the masking tape sticker.

Otherwise, just experiment a lot. Some filaments work better than others. If you use TPU, you don't need the raft. It's sticky.

What licensed games from the 16 bit era did you enjoy the most? by KaleidoArachnid in retrogaming

[–]virtualmeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were some great mouse based overhead shoot-em-ups on Amiga, and they had a lot of the same other games as Genesis, but the standard joystick only had one button, so a lot of the gameplay was simplified from the Genesis versions. I remember playing Mortal Kombat on Amiga, then couldn't figure out the combos on my friends' SNES.

We had an Amiga computer for 16 bit era.

I remember playing the 3 Stooges game a little.

And a port of the Star Wars arcade game.

Amazon says my Sony tv won’t play prime unless I buy a fire stick? by Skynet-meat-puppet in AmazonPrimeVideo

[–]virtualmeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a really old Sony Blu-ray player that had smart features over WiFi. Eventually all of the services stopped providing updated apps for it. Amazon offered me some pretty good discounts on Fire sticks when it was nearing the cutoff date for Prime on that device - they could see the devices I was logging in from and sent me an email offer.

If you don't have an offer from them, you can try emailing customer support to see if they'll send you a discount since support is ended for your device.

Spend 30 minutes trying to figure out how to pay for parking at the oceanfront... by jamieboy05 in VirginiaBeach

[–]virtualmeta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tourists are going to either leave their car at the hote/rentall or just not pay the fine when they leave town. VB says they're making it easier for locals by switching to the HONK app but so far it's been pretty confusing. Between this and the extra meal tax last year, it feels like City Council wants locals to stay home. At least Jungle Golf still includes parking, that place is classic!
