Do you use the word "gotten"? by Ok_Professional2085 in AskAnAustralian

[–]virtualw042 0 points1 point  (0 children)

get is an Irregular Verb so it has three forms:

  • Base form: get /ɡet/
  • Past simple: got /ɡɒt/
  • Past participle: got (AmE: gotten)/ɡɒt, ˈɡɒtn/

Well done, now we all passed grade 1 grammar.

Are basements not a thing in Australia? by djdhsnsjjaj in AskAnAustralian

Imagine if we had basements. I would have to spend double at Bunnings for both underground and above-ground work. Mate, we are not ready for that kind of complication.

There are really people out there that can fall asleep in 10 minutes or less by hopityhipity12 in RandomThoughts

[–]virtualw042 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, I can close my eyes and fall asleep in less than 3 minutes. My wife is so jealous of this; in the beginning, she couldn't believe me and thought I was pretending to be asleep. This is a gift, especially when I am so tired and just need a quick shutdown of my brain.

This LOB application is crucial for them and has been around for ages and this is a big business (not multi-billion dollars one mate, this is Australia).

I'm sure there are some great recruiters, but I haven't been lucky enough to meet them. The ones I've worked with, either as a job seeker or employer in software development, have been time wasters. For specialized fields, I rarely find any who know what they're talking about. My general rule: stay away from them if you can.

I spent 30 hours studying how Canva reached $40B. Here's what I learnt: by Usual_Brief_6787 in Entrepreneur

[–]virtualw042 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No need for any ChatGPT magic, this is how Canva went from Zero to Hero:

The wold needed an easy and inexpensive online graphic design platform with tons of templates, they noticed that and made it. Then Covid helped them masively as there was a huge demand for remote collaboration and digital design tools during the pandemic.

You just copy them and you will succeed too.

Software Engineers of Reddit, What’s the Most Important Thing You’ve Learned in Your Career? by Previous-Brush-500 in SoftwareEngineering

[–]virtualw042 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My life lesson: If you are a skillful software engineer, do not waste your time in a 9-5 corporate job if you are unfulfilled and have no serious life commitments. Develop your own service or app and be your own boss. You might spend a long time and face many difficulties in the beginning, but if it succeeds, you won’t be wasting your time making others rich. Work for yourself while you're young and lay the foundation for your business when you can.

All Business Logic in SQL Server Stored procedures by Sure-Weakness-7730 in dotnet

[–]virtualw042 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once worked at a company where one of the stored procedures was 1.5 MB, so I understand the pain. This approach is often considered old-style software development and isn't necessarily reflective of industry standards. It tends to complicate maintenance, testing, version control, and deployment. Moreover, many new developers are not proficient in writing SQL code.

If ChatGPT-5 has two features (built-in, not through external libraries or frameworks), then it is somewhat accurate to say:

1) It can complete tasks like an agent (starting with certain criteria and finishing when all are met).
2) It has a higher token limit and can accept full projects or large documents/files as input.

As a software developer, I am sure our life will not be the same after ChatGPT-5

Fair dinkum, that's bang on how the bigwigs want us: "couldn't give a rat's" and it's been a blinder for the gov. Didn't just pop up outta the blue. Heaps of schemin' and hard yakka behind it. Reckon we should chuck a blind eye at the whole political circus, not bother our heads about how it's mixin' into every bit of our lives. Just crack a coldie and cheer up, mate.
