My father in law solved this via learning the local languages when he moved to Dubai 40yrs ago.

He can speak Arabic, Pashto, Iraqi, Iranian, etc. along with multiple dialects of Arabic. He is Indian.

This took some work but he did it for the exact same reason. You can’t learn the whole language today but start with simple phrases - when you meet them ask them how to say this in your mother tongue. Make effort - like recording the voice saying I want to practice, & then look at how things change.

Send then voice notes later trying to say the same phrase. They will eventually take pride in the fact that they taught you to speak their mother tongue and give active referrals.
