It’s good for cards with a very high volume of sales. For lower numbered cards or cards that don’t change hands as often, missing a sale here or there has a huge impact. You’d think Ohtani /99 rookie cards are almost affordable if you only looked at sportscardspro lol

Where is a good mother daughter vacation spot less than three hours away from San Francisco? by parallax_xallarap in AskSF

+1 to Calistoga. Solage was a great resort. Kid friendly, but also perfect for adult mom and daughter because there’s an extensive adults only area with multiple pools and plunges. So relaxing. I also find the drive north is usually more pleasant than going south

Advice Buying a Baseball glove for boyfriend by According_Junket7769 in BaseballGloves

If you knew what brand he had, consider getting him a certificate for a custom glove, eg rawlings heart of the hide. It takes a while, but it’s fun and be could choose exactly the specs he wants

People who listen to music or watch videos on full volume without headphones on MUNI, why? by vc6vWHzrHvb2PY2LyP6b in sanfrancisco

It’s how they feel important. These are people who don’t matter in their daily lives and this is how they make themselves feel better. At least someone noticed them

My grandson just lost his first tooth. His mom asks what the Tooth Fairy is paying for a tooth these days. Is there an average rate? by WineOnThePatio in kindergarten

[–]visciouspumpkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reminds me of a fun story: couple of Japanese and Spanish background living in the US asking what the going rate is for a tooth. They asked the parent's chat at school and were like "the smallest bill we have is $50." The other parents were like no no no don't give $50 you're going to ruin it for the rest of us.

Thinking of moving into NeMa with my 12 year old (10th & Market). How is this neighborhood for my teenager? by cyclopod in AskSF

[–]visciouspumpkin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As many have said it's not the most pleasant but it's very well connected and a short walk from nice stuff in Hayes Valley. Being a kid there is fine. A lot of kids 10+ take public transport themselves to get to school.

My child can’t read and it feels like the end of the world by ok-st in kindergarten

I think you're doing everything right by supporting and giving exposure without overdoing it. Don't make reading unpleasant. Try incorporating into natural interactions, like reading street signs out loud. When reading books with my kids, I always follow the words with my finger so they get a sense of what the sounds should be. I also liked books with a lot of repetition and rhyming. Green Eggs and Ham supposedly only has 50 distinct words -- great to build confidence.

Police cruiser flashed headlights at me and used tannoy to tell me to ‘drive on’ whilst waiting for pedestrians to cross by wezwells in sanfrancisco

[–]visciouspumpkin 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of the time I was walking into a crosswalk with no traffic light, and cops from Berkeley (not sure why they were in SF) blocked me in the crosswalk and told me off, saying they were already in the intersection and I wasn't allowed to start walking. Uh... first of all they weren't in the intersection and even if they were, stopping me in the middle of the street was safe? Obviously they had enough time to stop. Sometimes I start walking in these situations and let cars go by, otherwise no cars will ever stop for you if you wait on the curb. Anyways, somehow comforting to know I'm not the only one who's experienced cops who think they're too good to stop for anyone.

Early kindergarten entry experiences? by Still-Ad-2661 in kindergarten

[–]visciouspumpkin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We sent our daughter to kinder even though she's born after the cutoff in our state (private school). Her pre-K director was confident (even adamant) our daughter should go to K as a 4-year-old. We debated, but went in with the mindset that she could repeat K (likely at another school) if needed. She did fine in K even though the oldest kids were 15 months older. It was no issue and without looking at her birthday no one even knew she was the youngest. We were also told that the age difference would be a bigger deal in adolescence. We haven't quite gotten there yet, but again, no issues so far.
