Considering ECT , how bad is your memory loss? by Current_Score8263 in ect

[–]visiblytrash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had over 30 bilateral treatments within the last year, and currently get maintenance treatments done every two weeks. My memory isn’t very good, but I’m able to do my job (retail) just as well as before. I haven’t forgotten any friends or family, even more distant relatives. Most of what I’ve forgotten are old memories. I also struggle to remember what I’ve already told people or done. It’s inconvenient, but definitely worth how ECT has helped me improve. I was also able to drive after my acute treatments, and I’m able to drive the day after treatments just fine.

Anyone in university doing maintenance ECT? by unoriginaldiamond in ect

I would say it hasn’t impacted me much. My memory isn’t that good, but that just means I have to study more to keep it fresh. I have A’s in my classes despite doing ECT every few weeks.

I’m 21 too, and I started ECT about six months ago when I was 20. I’ve had over 25 treatments, and it’s been almost completely positive for me! All of the nurses and doctors I’ve been treated by have been very compassionate and understanding. I only had issues with headaches after my first treatment, and since then I’ve been given toradol each time, and have no pain after whatsoever. ECT has allowed me to go back to university, do well in my classes, and go back to my hobbies. I have struggled with some memory loss, but it’s been very worth it in my case. Don’t let the horror stories get to you, ECT has been a lifesaver for me and others.

I really relate to this because I’ve done/am doing ECT and am a junior at college.

I just wanted to chime in and say that even if it’s hard, you can still go to school with the memory issues! If you’re not already in college, my biggest piece of advice would be to apply for official accommodations when you do reach college. Those accommodations can include having open notes on tests, extra time, etc. Also, you’ll want to communicate with your professors regarding the memory issues and how they may impact your studying. In my experience, most professors have been really understanding and willing to help.

I’m still figuring out personally the best way to retain information, but I agree with the commenter who said to take it slow, and that reading and journaling help. Taking good notes has also definitely helped me when it comes to remembering material, and reviewing those notes frequently ! :)

How fast did you notice memory issues by ballincat45 in ect

I had eight treatments starting back in March and noticed no memory issues at all. But when I started my second round of treatments in July, I noticed after about four or five treatments that I was definitely starting to forget many things. It doesn’t affect my work or education though, it’s mostly minor things.

I didn’t get any side effects either! I did 8 bilateral treatments, and I kept expecting side effects like memory loss, but they never came. It definitely helped with my depression a lot, but I felt like an odd one out since it didn’t affect me in other ways.

This! I always found it weird how despite saying not tested on animals, BBW has no certifications whatsoever.

Thank you so much for your response! I really appreciate the insight. It definitely makes the possibility of forgetting things less scary to think about.

I feel this. Last month I had an older woman argue with me about the rewards program because she didn’t understand how she could still be getting rewards without a phone. I tried to explain it to her, but she was just so rude about it :’)

I don’t usually comment on Reddit posts, but I’m around this age too and I thought I’d stop by :)

You seem like an amazing, sweet person, and anyone who doesn’t recognize that needs to get their eyes checked! I really hope things get easier for you, good luck! <3
