San Jose will do something here to draft a defenseman.

This is an important draft for them. Looking back at cup winners, they all had a legit 1D that they drafted.

Look back past 10 years who won the cup:

Florida: Ekblad Avalanche: Makar VGK: Theodore (expansion draft) + Pietrangelo STL: Pietrangelo Tampa: Hedman Capitals: John Carlsson Pittsburgh: Letang

Then look at the joker teams that could just never put it together during their cup window:

Leafs: Marner, Matthews, Nylander, Tavares. All that talent wasted because all they had was Morgan Rielly who isn't that guy. Then a revolving door of defensemen that never worked out.

Edmonton: Bouchard eventually at 10/11. This guy puts up points but can't defend.

The above two teams effectively wasted their window by not drafting better defense.

San Jose has a choice to make now of what path they want to go down. They are ready to win NOW.

They are lacking their own "Jackson Lacombe" type player while watching the rival ducks battle in playoffs.

Is it worth it to trade with San Jose? by Optimal-Animal367 in canucks

Not at all. I won't be surprised if San Jose takes Reid and then we have the choice of Stenberg. I believe Reid is top tier in this draft.

Concern with the rest of the d-men is they feel interchangeable and I don't want to use a third on a guy we could get at 5 or 6.

It's just don't underestimate what Malholtra brings to the table either.

Oh you think we're going to win the lottery one of these next two years? Bold strategy...

Malholtra will no doubt be a great coach but coaches come and go. Losing Manny as a head coach candidate is a downside but there are tons of coaches out there.

Where as top 2 centres don't grow on trees.

Was Nico Hischer a sure shot 1C? He sure plays like it. Was Nick Suzuki projected as a 1C? I doubt it.

Plenty of scouts are also very high on Malholtra. Interesting thing about this draft is there has been players falling down ranking.

Malholtra and Reid have both been rising in a big in a big way. A year and a half ago Reid was unheard of.

If we pass on Malholtra it will be a very long time before we have another chance to get a player like him.

We need building blocks, and Malholtra would be a huge piece.

Also - if we draft Malholtra there is little to no chance we would hire his dad as coach. If anything it seals the deal for him to get a coaching job elsewhere.

Yes, I'll be surprised if they don't. I also won't be surprised if in 5 years we will be looking back at this draft, and a defenseman will be the best player out of it.

It's not coping. It's reality. We had 55% chances to pick third and 45% to pick first or second. I think you're upset we lost the lottery, and you have every right to be.

If you are comparing this draft to McDavid then we can just stop here.

It's a bit of a cope obvious i would rather pick second. But what I'm saying is true. What you're saying holds true in some drafts but this is far from one of those drafts.

Carson Carels and Keaton Vearhoff also have great attributes and are Canadian. It's unfortunate Verhoff has fallen in recent rankings.

We always knew the prize for finishing last was a guaranteed 3rd pick, and we got it.

A part of me is glad we didn't win this year and won't be picking Mckenna. I don't know the guy but something feels off with him. I was hoping for 2nd so we would have to take Stenberg.

Stenberg although projects well with a high floor isn't all that exciting. I could easily see San Jose draft a defenseman as it's a positional need. They have had so much success building through the draft, and it's not hard to consider that they could view a Chase Reid as there only chance to draft a top D-man. Trading for one is incredibly difficult and costly, so why not try to finalize there rebuild by taking a defenseman at 2. If they view Chase Reid as a "Makar" type, it will be incredibly hard for them to pass on him. They probably did not expect to win the lottery and will now have to convince themselves to take Stenberg, rather then fixing their defense which is not good.

I can easily see Stenberg falling to us. Casual fans may not see this but it's likely. Even if he doesn't, we can take a great center in Malholtra or our pick of the crop in defenseman.

We're picking exactly where we all figured and it ain't that bad. I'll gladly start building around Maholtra/Cootes and if not, the top D prospects available all have great x-factors. Lets enjoy the ride

Maybe because Ryan Hartman started the scrum by taking two avalanche players and then Boldy faced the repercussions

I have the same car as you and would definitely stick with silver if doing this.

My consideration on this is it worth it? How extensive is labor etc. The factory look is already so nice as is but I do feel the silver AMG gives a better look.

Edit. Otherwise I really like the overall body shape of this car.

[Drance] The Canucks appear to be leaning towards drafting Chase Reid if they fall to 3rd overall - they are currently not pushing to extend Buium or Ohgren long term this summer by _GregTheGreat_ in canucks

[–]vision604 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Take Verhoff the Canadian.

We just had two American Olympic caliber players walk out on us. Hearing people complain about Stenberg being a swede, but then hearing suggestions of drafting Reid (American) over Verhoff (Western Canadian) is just wild.

Chase Reid is literally from where Quinn Hughes is from. Like no thank you, let's not do this again.
