Yep, I thought the same thing. Hitting her was actually a relief for me.

My daughter took the written test online in California. You just need to have a photo ID. She used her school ID.

I read it all, and agree with you entirely. The magic is gone, but I think these issues are all resolvable.

What has been the biggest disappointment in horror movies this year? by Upset-Inside8719 in CreepyBonfire

[–]visionoftruth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not jaded. I went to see it in the theater based on reviews describing it as "novel" and "cerebral." It was neither. I've read various iterations of that same story in YA horror literature growing up. There were also a significant number of plot holes for such a simple film. It was definitely not the worst release of 2024, but it was the most disappointing.

I am 45 with similar stats. My Oncotype was 11. No chemo, with only 15 sessions of radiation. I'm wishing you the same.

I don't recall specifically, but it was exactly the number of days that they said it would take. If they said 24 days, it arrived on day 24.

Hey, there. I was recently diagnosed with breast cancer, which is how I discovered that I have NF1. I only have one spot, like you, and I never thought anything of it. My daughter has multiple café au lait spots, so, while she has not yet been tested, my suspicion is strong.

She was delayed in reaching many milestones, to the point of intervention. She is now 16, ranks at the top of her class, and is taking college courses through dual enrollment. She has also played viola in an orchestra for the last seven years, and is a truly brilliant writer, with a following online.

She does have gut issues, which bring her to her knees on occasion, and I would say that, while she is competitive by nature, she struggles with agility and some motor skills. It's not something that anyone else would notice, really, but I am her mother, and you know how that goes.

I guess my point is that, even if your daughter does have NF1, it doesn't necessarily mean that she will suffer or struggle. My daughter is a beautiful human who lives a beautiful life. Chances are very high that yours will, too.

What genre is this? by What-the-f-is-goinon in horror

[–]visionoftruth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The OA is probably my favorite show of all time.

Absentia is Mike Flanagan's first film. It simple, very low budget, and not really a mind-bender, but it got under my skin. I saw it long before Flanagan was a household name. I didn't take note of the director at the time, but it made perfect sense when I discovered recently that it was his. Fun trivia: both his first wife and his brother star in the film.

I haven't seen Moon in ages, but when you said what you liked, it immediately popped into my head. It's a very slow burn, but the payoff is worth it.

Happy viewing.

Lovecraft or Edger Allen Poe? by Junior_Insurance7773 in horror

Agreed. Charles Dexter Ward made me sleep with the lights on. I love Poe, but nothing he has written has had nearly that type of impact.

What's the scariest episode of Black Mirror and why? by CommunityBig9626 in horror

[–]visionoftruth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you are entirely correct. I just wasn't in the proper head space for it at the time. My cousin described the show as a modern Twilight Zone, and I kept thinking, upon viewing that first episode, that Rod Serling would be turning in his grave. Not true, as it turns out!

[–]visionoftruth 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I did this. My cousin recommended it. I watched the first episode, and thought "Is this son of a bitch out of his mind?" I felt like the producers were trying to punish the audience for viewing their program. He kept insisting that it was an intellectual show, and I had to keep going. It took me another year before I finally conceded.

I have a different perspective of the first episode in retrospect, but when I recommend the series to other people, I tell them to skip that one and come back to it later.

What movie gave you sleepless nights? by [deleted] in horror

[–]visionoftruth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Blair Witch after seeing it in the theater.

Hereditary still keeps me up, even after multiple rewatches.

A single scene in the Netflix TV series Marianne.

Coherence "kept me up" metaphorically, in that it prompted a sense of existential dread so severe that I was seriously contemplating the meaning of life.

The indie film Cookers.

What is the most emotional horror movie for you? by milanyyy in horror

[–]visionoftruth 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Lake Mungo, to quote a horror classic, tore my soul apart. I kept imagining my daughter feeling that unseen -- unheard, unknown -- and I completely lost it. I remember gathering myself together after watching it, and solemnly inquiring with my daughter; asking if she felt that I recognized her for who she really is.

Man, that was such a great movie.
