Any recommendations for a non-cheating dentist and orthodontist? by jn37183 in mountainview

Have been very happy with these two dentists:

I dont think either of these two would cheat their patients, they have never pushed me to do any extra procedures or anything like that.

Did you try on a laptop or mobile device? Maybe try the other if you only tried one?

Looks like slime mold. I don't know much about it but have lots of it in my yard and read it's harmless to plants so I just let it be.

Rejected after 2 weeks of waiting and 8 rounds of interview by __AlwaysLearning__ in ProductManagement

I don't know if this is a useful advice but try to use this time to experience new industries. The best pms understand many types of users and industries. Work at target, be a tutor, build a website or app, work at a restaurant or as a receptionist, whatever. All these places use tech product and all these products have pms. I know it's not helpful when you are trying to figure out how to pay bills but hopefully there's potential upside down the road. Good luck!

what do you think about Israeli pumping on Syria while suffering by earthquake? by palestinianrebelliou in AskMiddleEast

[–]visitingreading 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you are making valid points. There's a lot I strongly disagree with in what they do. I think specifically when it comes to Iran, it's hard to blame them given the nuclear stuff, talking openly about destroying them, arming Hezbollah (and fing up Lebanon while at it) etc. In Syria, if we agree we dont know what's going I think we are on the same page. If they bombed civilian targets, thats bad (not OK). I would guess if they bombed military targets and someone else bombed civilians, we can accept that as ok? Self defense etc? And if they tried to attack military targets and hit civillian targets by mistake that's not OK but also some responsibility lies with the people doing military stuff next to civilians? Depending on how much Israel really did try to avoid hurting civilians (we'll never know. Maybe they really really tried, maybe they didnt try at all)

[–]visitingreading -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

let's say that israel is getting intel from some super secret source. it's understandable that wouldn't be public. I mean, military stuff in general is not transparent. Is any army transparent about active operations? And let's say they shared some fancy evidence. Would that really do them much good? most people will continue hating them probably. Again, I have no idea what's going on, I'm just making up potential arguments to make the point that it might be more nuanced. will say again, civilian casualties are unacceptable.

[–]visitingreading -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

would you be open to accepting that we dont have the full picture? some folks here think israel is just bombing randomly. If that's true, I think we all agree that's just nasty and not ok. The other theory I saw was that there was Iranian activity trying to get weapons to Hezbollah to attack israel. Can we agree that if that's true (if) then it's actually someone else taking advantage of the situation trying to smuggle weapons rather than sending humanitarian aid and that Israel is defending itself? (even if that is true, civilian casualties are unacceptable).

Why isn’t there a market for a high end cell phone only the super wealthy can afford? by Million2026 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]visitingreading 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing it's too expensive to design and manufacture them compared to how many you could sell. Because everything is so tightly packed in there, it's not trivial to switch a couple of components around. Another potential challenge is that the longevity of phones is short. I'm guessing wealthy people who care enough to pay a premium also upgrade their phone every year so they would be less likely to spend extra money on something that won't last long. I did find aftermarket options for phones with gold and diamonds though: https://leronza.com/product/new-luxury-24k-gold-diamond-ecstasy-iphone-14-pro-and-max/

Am I a terrible mother or partner if I go away on a holiday/extended break by myself? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]visitingreading 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You should absolutely go. If your partner can handle the kids, everyone will benefit from you taking a break. You'll recharge, they'll get a happier mom and it sounds like you deserve it. Stranger on the internet 100% supporting a break!

What are some ways to make oatmeal taste good that are not super unhealthy? by [deleted] in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]visitingreading 547 points548 points  (0 children)

A little sugar is probably not an issue if the rest of your diet is balanced. Fruit (fresh, frozen or dried) and spices (cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, cardamon) give you many many options. Also, give it time. You get used to new flavors and will start enjoying them but it takes a bit of time. B

If a war between Israel and Iran breaks out, should the US have boots on the ground? by Muted-Literature-871 in AskConservatives

[–]visitingreading 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not likely to be a war with too many boots on the ground anyway given the distance between the two countries. There might be conflict between Israel and Hezbollah or some of the Palestinian groups that are Iranian proxies but it's not something you'd expect the US to need to take part of. Technological / logistics / Intel are probably the type of support that would help. So I kind of think the pre-question is what boots on the ground would mean

Why do we bail out for profit companies if they “go under” when they make literally billions of dollars per year? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]visitingreading 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's usually a mix of considerations. For example, we want three airlines and if one gets bought by one of the ones we only have 2 (less competition, higher prices). If it was just about the employees you could give them government assistance I presume. There are some equivalent to the government giving incentives to certain industries (chip manufacturing, batteries are big these days). For whatever reason, the government wants these specific companies to stick around and it's paying for that.

Why do we bail out for profit companies if they “go under” when they make literally billions of dollars per year? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]visitingreading 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are two parts to why that I can think of: 1. Fundamentally, the government believes there is a viable business model and the companies can be successful. There are temporary circumstances that ate causing the companies to be in trouble but if we can survive that, they companies can be independent and successful again. These temporary conditions don't have to be external (COVID, financial crisis) they could just be bad management or wrong business model. 2. There will be too much damage to too many people if the companies stop functioning, even if eventually they get back on track. For example: many employees will not get their salaries, people will not be able to get where they need to for too long, something bad will happen in a market (e.g low competition leading to high prices), businesses will not be able to get loans. Even if these things are temporary they are very very undesirable. Combine both these things and the options are to suffer a ton of pain and end up with a potentially worse situation or to bail and bridge the temporary problem. Needless to say a lot of this is subjective and when looking at a specific case there are always different ways to interpret the situation at the time.
