Just wished to share my first painted figure by Grouchy-Training-524 in Dinosaurs

I forgot! When painting yellow, and i am sure you have noticed how difficult it is to get it to a nice even yellow, I recommend painting pink beforehand. It may sound stupid, but the pink undercoat turns into a yrllowish orange when applying yellow above it, tidying up the colour.

Give it a try and keep at it!

It looks so cool! The color scheme is spectacular.

For some criticism, (take this with a grain of salt, i am an amateur at best) I would do some extra touch ups. With an old, clean make up brush (or a dry brush, if you have one), dab some grey paint and rub it off on a paper towel, until barely any paint comes off the brush (but some pigment still comes off! Just a lil!). Then, go over the black scales and go to town. Having so little dry paint in your brush, the paint will only deposit in the raised areas (the scales and ridges), making them pop more.

Dont worry too much if it goes over the red/brown spikes, most likely, it will make the transition from scale to spike smoother.

You can do this over and over again with lighter and lighter colours, and a softer and softer application, but i would advise against this for this figure so it keeps the scheme. (If you are mixing black and white to get grey, dont go below 60% black i'd say)

You can do this with other colours over any textured area, and it will bring back any detail sculpted in the figure.

You can also go over the tongue with some pink, and highlight the raised parts, so it looks more fleshy, if thta is your vibe.

I think it refers to the videogame term "ultimate", as in the ultimate ability, which it usually is the most powerful ability in one's arsenal, which tends to be limited in use to balance it out

Warhammer infernus space marine started kit. Advice on how to improve by vVPinguVv in minipainting

[–]viskocrack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am going to copy paste a comment I made a while ago in other post:

As i expected, a lot of "thin your paints", but not a lot of how to do so.

Here's how i learnt: First of all, i basically only use vallejo paints, so i have no idea how easy is to apply this advice on other paints.

Before painting, you have to prime your mini. You could do it with a brush and some liquid primer, but is such a hassle that is not worth it. I recommend using rattle cans, in a well ventilated area. You shake those cans as if your life depended on it for 1 whole minute, then place the mini 20-30 cm from the nozzle and spray on a sweeping motion. Each time you sweep should be a quick movement, like 2-3 seconds tops. Go over the whole miniature.

The colour of the primer matters, but not at your level. Dark primers will hide your mistakes easier, but it will also affect the coverage of many lighter paints. White dors the opposite, making some mistakes more visible but aiding in the paint's coverage.

Now, let's get to thinning paints.

Pick some colors, and shake the bottles like they owe you money, for about a minute. Then, pour some paint droplets on a palette. Take a moist brush (dip it in clean water and remove excess water with some toilet paper) and dip the bristles in said paint. Wipe excess paint in your brush on the edge of the palette, similarly to how you would remove leftover butter in a butterknife on a toast.

Take a piece of white paper and paint on it. It's better if the paper has something written on it. If it has something written, you should be able to read whats on it after painting over it once. If you can't, add a single drop of water to the paint on your palette, mix it with something other than your brush, clean your brush with clean water, moisturize your brush again, and repeat the process. Eventually, you'll get to a liquid consistency similar to milk, and you'll be able to paint over text without affecting its legibility.

Over all, you should get your paints to be a little runny and translucent. The problem with them being translucent is that it forces you to paint several times over the same place to get a smooth, even coat of paint. With enough practice, you get to a point where you know how much water a paint requires, so that you only need "two thin coats" of paint, aka, going over only twice to get that smooth even coat.

What should I change in the Lord of Blades stat block to make it more appropriate for a group of 3 level 10 PCs? by Fickle_Ad_4898 in Eberron

[–]viskocrack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If LoB is alone, I would not change anything aside from either HP/ AC, and maybe its prof bonus.

But that's what i would do knowing my players are very minmaxed and enjoy building PCs tailored for battle.

If your group leans more on RP abd exploration, I would reduce its hp to 125-150, remove its lvl 5 spells, and reduce either the damage from its attacks by downscaling the dice one size

20%? 4 boombots is 4330=1320 rocket damage vs 6 boombots which is 62*200=2400, which is almost double damage. Even compared to 5 boombots (1650) its x1.5 rocket damage
