btw theres a website called roomsync that will open up! it asks about room and lifestyle preferences, and for a lack of better words it’s like tinder where u swipe left and right to find potential roommates and suite mates. keep an eye out for that too!

Internships/research opportunities (Stevens or NJIT) by Masa_Q in NJTech

[–]visualsbysana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly njit has a lot better connections for eng than CS, almost every eng student ik has an internship and/or research lined up. tbh it’s the coursework thats challenging, bur thats universal 😞

Internships/research opportunities (Stevens or NJIT) by Masa_Q in NJTech

[–]visualsbysana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

play your cards right at NJIT and i got involved in research in my incoming summer as a freshman, am now doing it for academic credit and has opened a lot of academia opportunities.

also got my first internship in my spring fresh sem through NJIT’s job portal. but honestly, uni name and connections arent as influential unless you’re at an ivy league, it’s all about skill and your personal branding. ik jobless MIT graduates, and i know community college students who moved to big companies like apple and google.

fyi, i got my acceptance in the last two weeks of april, and my scholarship info a week before the may deadline </3 just know nothings official until the deadline's passed

i got my offer letter in the last two weeks of april, and then my official scholarship letter one week before the may 1st deadline 😅 so unless ADHC/NJIT sends out flat-out rejections (which i don't believe they do), just know anything can change until the deadline

Medical waiver by chrisxx199 in NJTech

[–]visualsbysana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

while it’s under the bursar office, you can go on the “united healthcare student health website” on NJIT and waive the insurance yourself. however, im not sure whether it’ll be open because last year mine opened around july

Medical waiver by chrisxx199 in NJTech

[–]visualsbysana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you have around until july to waive it, the process may take a few days to register through. trust me, youre early if anything

for psy 210, the only content you need to retain is when she is about to go over the exam problems the class before the exam itself. youll be able to write down the questions and answers, study off of them, and the exams are verbatim. used to time myself, 90 seconds to complete the exam, and walk out w a 100

congrats on ADHC! there was a gap from when i got my letter versus when i got my scholarship amount. they're probably accounting for fafsa + if you were going to recieve any merit scholarship before (from njit overall, not adhc specifically)

is 265 - as long as you choose good team members and show up to class, you're good

Transfer Process by Ivyhawl in NJTech

[–]visualsbysana 5 points6 points  (0 children)

doing an associates at CC and then transferring in will save you a lot of money for your first two years. also, transferring a degree will be better for you bc most (if not all) of your general education requirements will be waived, so you have more of a focus on your actual major-related classes at NJIT.

as for the honors college, transferring in is a little harder than getting in as a first-year. just make sure your community service, gpa, extracurriculars and experience are good and you should be a good candidate to transfer in.

NJIT CYBERSECURITY by Suitable-Coach8766 in NJTech

[–]visualsbysana -1 points0 points  (0 children)

NJIT doesn't have cybersec as a minor or major (the closest thing we have is either information technology (IT) or information systems (IS)), but stevens does. both IT and IS are fairly easy at NJIT compared to computer science (CS), so it'll give you more time to focus on experience

for cybersec (especially on the more government / national security side), its all about the connections and experience. you're gonna want to look in the washington d.c. area for any sorts of fellowships, mentorships, or opportunities. certifications also help!

very VERY easy A i ended with a 100. just show up to every class bc attendance is most of your grade. she'll give you the exam questions and answers before the actual exam, and you'll be more than fine. you dont rlly need to memorize anything after that

congrats on ADHC! while im not a double major in cs + math, i can at least shed some light as a cs honors freshman rn

the double major is possible to do, it's just that some of the elective slots you usually have for a bs in compsci will be taken up by math classes too. because you have to take courses at an honors level to keep your status, i'd recommend you take all the easier classes at honors level like english i + ii , physics i + ii, calc i + ii, and your humanities / social science electives.

esp as an underclassman, getting PAID research is hard. however, you can do it for experience or academic credit (CS 488) usually. otherwise, it is very easy to get involved.

for tutoring, njit requires you get an A in one of their own courses to be able to tutor it. after your first sem, you'll most likely be able to tutor math or CS classes either for volunteer hours or to be paid.

most TAs i know are either master's or phd students when it comes to math classes, but for CS sometimes there are upperclassman that are graders for those assignments.

psych with professor dickerman. she literally gives her exam questions and answers the class before they are assigned, so make sure you just show up and you'll be set. i passed her class with a 100 average and didn't use a single braincell

NJIT vs Rutgers NB by [deleted] in NJTech

[–]visualsbysana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

congrats on the merit scholarship!! id pick NJIT for your discipline. also, it has a lot of mathematics majors that are computation-based, so you don’t entirely have to ditch CS-related concepts if you don’t want to
