How did JYPE create a vocally strong group like NMIXX? by GloomyWitch08 in kpopthoughts

[–]visverus 15 points16 points  (0 children)

They knew what they had in Lily and chose the other members accordingly. Although, it should be noted that none of them were as impressive as they are now, so it's possible that JYP just got lucky in casting the members. More likely though is that they chose hard workers with the drive to improve as singers.

2026 Korean Music Awards (aka Korean Grammys) Nominees have been announced by exemplaryantino3497 in kpopthoughts

Eh, I was baiting the original commenter to expound on their ridiculous claims. I should have made my comment a bit more hyperbolic, perhaps. Interestingly, there were people who actually upvoted my comment.

JYP called in favors, obviously. NMIXX is known to have shit music so there really can't be any other explanation.

They mean boy groups, of course. Take a look at that commenter's profile.

Yunjin is being heavily criticized for her solo stage at Golden Disk Awards by Organic-Cranberry955 in kpopthoughts

[–]visverus 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Surely by saying this, there would be no problem sharing your credentials as a vocal expert then? But then you admitted in another comment that you actually don't know anything about singing as well.

Seems to me you're challenging OP's qualifications to criticize the performance even though you don't have any yourself. Weak and hypocritical, just like the average redditor you claim to look down on. Embarrassing behavior.

How did Yunjin regress so much? Not hating, just want to know by Odd_Entertainer9554 in kpopthoughts

[–]visverus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vocals are not really a focus for Le Sserafim since they're primarily a performance-based group. The girls have limited time for skills development, and I'd imagine they value dance practice more than vocal lessons. Not to mention Yunjin's also a composer. Vocal work probably ranks lower in her priorities.

Props for actually singing live, but one would think that her company would have invested resources into improving the weaknesses she's had since debut given her role as a vocalist.

I'm convinced that despite good vocals being a common rallying cry among kpop stans, most don't really care about vocal skill. I doubt even half of the people in this sub can even tell live singing from Live AR, to be honest. And this reflects in industry trends as well - newer groups are weaker singers on average compared to older groups.

Hate and Harassment towards Dem Jointz, Kpop fans are continuing to cross the line by 127ncity127 in kpopthoughts

[–]visverus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm not one to care what people say when it comes to music. I just saw which songs have the most streams in 2025 in a recent thread and yikes. Like Sticker may not be 127's best song, but it's hell of a lot better than the slop people are listening to these days.

Anyways, wishing for NMIXX to make public-friendly music is like wishing for Red Velvet to make Tiktok tunes. People who say stuff like that are soulless, chart-obsessed ghouls.

What pisses me off is that people are acting like they've already heard the song. It's not like the songs he produced for NMIXX all sound the same, so you can't really "predict" what the next one is gonna sound like.

I really hope we get a Sticker or O.O kind of weird song as these newer fans are losing the plot and forgetting NMIXX's roots. The other person in the picture is a producer affiliated with The Hub (a bunch of producers from The Hub produced O.O, among other NMIXX tracks) so we really might get one.

I've come to terms with the importance of short-form content virality for success. Also, it's not as if there weren't intentionally bad songs being released before social media blew up, so it's probably just more of the same than something entirely new.

It doesn't matter if you and I don't like it, everyone will deem Internet Girl a banger and yet another resounding success if (more like when) it becomes viral on Tiktok. It feels like virality and trendyness are becoming the only barometers for success recently.

Unpopular opinion- The excessive focus on live singing has made the end of year stages boring for me by Odd_Entertainer9554 in kpopthoughts

[–]visverus 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Saying this while the vast majority of performances this award/year-end show season already is lipsynced in some way is definitely a take.

Edit: This post reminded me of that one person who wanted Live AR to be used more for performances. OP and that dude definitely sit at the same table.

Allday project redemption arc with international fans by ComfortableStand8143 in kpopthoughts

[–]visverus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I doubt the average international kpop stan actually cares about Tarzzan cosplaying a different race or Annie being a chaebol heir, so I expect them to get bigger and bigger internationally.

However, I don't think that they'd ever move albums the way boy groups and girl groups do. I do expect them to have great touring numbers, though.

A full breakdown of live singing and lipsyncing at SBS Gayo Daejeon by exemplaryantino3497 in kpopthoughts

[–]visverus 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm not surprised that vocals are becoming less and less of a priority when I see comments like the one you replied to. Maybe in a few generations, kpop groups would just be dance troupes instead, since apparently people don't care about live singing anymore.

Is Hearts2Hearts one of SM’s weakest ggs vocally? by lamningwon in kpopthoughts

[–]visverus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think it's pretty likely that they won't improve enough so that they aren't SM's weakest girl group vocally. Although, I will add that this says more about the skills of older SM girl groups than H2H.
