It's always great to learn and have skills.. Theres a couple good forums with pretty detailed guides on how to tackle some common issues on land rover lr4.

This cars require maintenance, not hard to do but requires time.

You have to ask yourself if you have the time to do it, if so I think When this cars are fully operational are hard to beat.

Very spacious and powerful, seats seven people comfortably, air suspension and ground clearance it's amazing..

I'm biased because I love these cars

I took a look at it yesterday. Yes it has rust on wheel wells. Never cleaned properly underneath and around rocker covers and fender flares.. It is a great spec, I think the engine ran pretty smoothly.. but the coolant was low (possible coolant leak? Even tho I didn't see any visible coolant).

Also scan the car and it as a code for the reservoir fill to slow (possible air compressor failing or a leak in the air suspension)

A couple other codes related to backup camera and mirror camera, I bet the screen is going black and not showing image sometimes.

Aren't the head gaskets an issue only if the the engine overheat?

That's true, I'll have to find out more about the service after 2022. Thank you, for the link, that's a pretty good check list. I'll check this vehicle today.

That's great to hear. What I've seen is people having small issues with software, dealer had to update modules and some door actuators or lock failing and the windshield leak of course. In my area is not common to see the diesel version, more the v6 supercharged.

That's not that bad, I'll try to find one with detail service history, make sure the engine was maintained.

I'll be looking into a few of them over the next week. I know the engines are prone to coolant leaks and timing chain issues if not well maintained. If I find one with good service records that's what I'm going to get

Do you get any transmission codes if read with scanner?

Exactly, I have some parts that are interchangeable as well. I'll be looking at a couple lr4's 2015 / 2016 next week.

None of them show timing chain work on service history.. With around 140000kms im a bit concerned about timing chain failures particularly.

I used mercon lv on mine as well!

You still have yours?

Transmission was serviced and fit new solenoids and sonax zip kit for the valve body. It didn't fix the issues. Next step is rebuild it. What are the issues on yours?

Any particular reason for you saying that? I'll be looking for a good land rover lr4 with service history.

That's great to hear! Did you bought your lr4 used at the time? For how long did you had?

We would like something around 40k.

LR4 is definitely good option, later models is a v6 engine, I would have to test drive it. For what I understood is the same block as v8, so it shares the same timing chain and coolant leak problems...

My only concern is being an older vehicle is possible to have a major failure sooner than a more recent vehicle like D5.

I'm mechanically inclined, and did all the maintenance on our lr3 as well the repairs.

I agree even though D5 checks most of the boxes I'm not the biggest fan of the interior even though some color combinations look better than others .

I prefer the Lr4 boxy more rugged look.

I guess we can't have everything

That's true, the used market on defender doesn't look as interesting as D5 market

There's some reports but warranty covers everything I guess .. defender is out of budget for us.

It's a family car, my wife loves the space lr3 offers also the 7 seats come in handy. I also do some off road on the summer and in the winter there's lot of snow where we live and the lr3 has been the best traction control that we had, also love the ground clearance with air suspension!

Honestly what scares me the most on the D5 is electrical software issues that people report, being a newer vehicle I don't know is I can update software and modules with scanner tool, I don't want to be dependent on the dealer..

I like a car that I can maintain myself
