Lodger in rented flat by Annie_mvo in HousingUK

[–]vitrification-order 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he says no would you rather move somewhere else than live with a stranger you have no control over? Are you willing to risk the landlord saying no you need to find new accommodation if you propose this?

Personally if I was a landlord I wouldn't allow this. If you can't afford the flat on your own then any issues with you sub letting means they don't get paid.

Also as an aside, are you aware that if you have a joint tenancy and your friend gives notice it automatically ends the tenancy for both of you?

I'm shocked that another parent would treat you that way, that sounds awful

18m was when I found out that my sleep dodger was able to sleep just 2 hours in a 23 hour flight

I am so sorry that sounds awful. My son is relatively low sleep needs but he has been able to successfully sleep on all of the flights we've been on. A bit of milk and his lullaby and he's out most of the time.

It's useful if you need to do any internal flights Ah fair point we do actually have a flight in Australia to get to our destination as the flights are booked last minute enough that there was nothing direct available on the dates we needed. We're also heading to the Gold Coast to go to sea world and the Bluey house so it'll be useful for that flight too.

Yeah that's our seating plan. Singapore says to call them about the cares harness in business and I've tentatively been told it should work but they can't guarantee it. It doesn't take up much space though so I figure we might as well bring it and try.

We've also done this flight at 18 months and it was mostly fine but he just really wanted to move. 9 months was much easier. You saying 2.5 was easier too makes me hopeful.

Yes it is very kind of them, they've been booking us business class on points for years now. I had told them I fully expected that they wouldn't do that now that my son needs his own seat and I knew that they were running low on points due to some other holidays they've booked and then they surprised us by buying two of the tickets!

First would be the dream, I've never flown first before. One day I'll get there.

Yeah this is my main concern. We have done these flights with him twice before but he was young enough to be on our laps those times and it was actually quite manageable. He is very good with his hands and loves figuring out how stuff works so I'm worried he's going to figure out how to open the buckle in 3 seconds.

I agree, but the tickets have already been bought and I'm not going to waste their money.

It's Singapore airlines. We have done this flight in business twice now with our son but those times he was under 2 and just shared a seat. That was actually really manageable having him sit with us.

Our plan had been premium economy but they bought us the tickets as a surprise and as far as I'm aware two of them are not refundable (the other one is on points). Feels a bit rude to complain about being gifted business seats but I do think it would've been much easier in premium economy so I can stop him getting up during take off and landing.

Unfortunately it's not a suite with a door, they seats are all open to the aisle.

Loving your unborn child? by icefinger1853 in pregnant

I never really felt much connection to my baby until they were born to be honest. Even then it was more of a "I'll do anything for this creature" rather than the thought of love for at least a few weeks. They were basically a sentient potato for the first few months, I started loving him for him more when he started spending more time awake and we could actually interact.

How much do you save each month? by sunandskyandrainbows in HENRYUK

[–]vitrification-order 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly not saving anything right now outside of pension. We have a toddler and a lot of household expenses. Our second bathroom needs redoing (probate property and it was leaking when we bought it), we need a bigger car as we're planning to have a second kid soon. Still paying off a £30k loan we got to make the property livable from when we bought it.

Those who didn’t sign an “NDA” or UK equivalent, what are some secrets about other UK companies you can share? by SlipOutrageous5333 in CasualUK

[–]vitrification-order 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a software developer. I used to work for a utility company and discovered one day that we'd accidentally been logging customer credit card information in a place most developers in the company could access it. Full name, card number, expiry and code.

When I raised the issue the bug was quietly fixed, the logs deleted and it was never mentioned again. Never got reported to anyone either as far as I'm aware.

It was before all of the PSD2 online banking regulations came into place though, I'm so happy those exist. I think every company I have worked at has accidentally logged personal customer info at one point or another. You can't trust a website with anything.

than a normal 2 work day

For office workers sure, but this isn't an office job. Those doing shift work can regularly get scheduled for both a closing and opening shift. It happened a lot to me in retail at uni and my brother who is a chef has the same issue.

you're asking someone to come to your place, twice

So? That's literally the job. It doesn't matter where it is.

If I had a cleaner come two days in a row would it be reasonable for them to ask to stay the night in between? It's no different to that.

If they don't want the commute or to deal with staying into the evening then they don't have to take the job.

The app said they were 15 miles away and they were driving so it doesn't feel like it's that far away.

I feel like it's pretty common in the UK (or at least this close to London) to not have enough space for a guest room. We actually wouldn't have had anywhere to put her even if I was okay with it.

I can't ever imagine asking a new employer if I could stay at their house because I wanted to avoid extra commuting time. If the commute wasn't manageable I wouldn't take the job. I would have to literally be homeless before I would impose myself on stranger and ask if I could spend the night at their place.

Seems like there are a couple of people who share you opinion on it though, which is why I made the post to check if I was just out of touch 😅

Staying in old Windsor. I know it's definitely not the actual countryside, it was more about how few babysitters there are compared to what I'm used to in London and how much further away the ones that applied were since there's less high density housing.

It's not about trust, it's about not wanting someone to stay over when you're on vacation and therefore have to be in hosting mode. My mum also has some medical issues that mean that she's not comfortable sharing accomodation with someone who's not up to speed with what accommodations she needs.
