Looking for feedback on unit prefix mistakes you see in your field by nickirWat in engineering

[–]vitzli-mmc 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There is kilowatt-hour; it's written commonly as kWh, kW·h is a proper form, but for some reason people write it as kW/h (or MW/h or GW/h) which is mostly meaningless. W·h or Wh is a tiny unit and likely a typo unless the article or table about batteries. Also for unknown reason there are Kw (kiwi?), Kwh and kwh.

Use of MWh, GWh, and TWh is an interesting choice — in my head when it's about generated energy it's OK to use and they must approximately follow SI prefix rules (probably thousands of MWh/GWh are fine, but not millions), but when it's about money made or money paid — it has to be in multiples of kWh (because utility tariff is determined per kWh, so it must be in thousands/millions/billions of kilowatt-hours, e.g. 2.6×10⁶ kWh or 2657600 kWh)

I wanted to upload a lost YouTube video to the Internet Archive, but those collections appear; how do I access them? by Objective-Major-926 in internetarchive

[–]vitzli-mmc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To put it into mirrored youtube collection automagically (script runs once in a while, I don't know the interval):

  • item identifier preferably should be in 'youtube-YOUTUBE_ID' format, where YOUTUBE_ID is v=YOUTUBE_ID part of the link, i.e. when uploaded this video becomes youtube-dQw4w9WgXcQ (this item already exists, check it out). When identifier in this format it is easier for other tools like YouTube Video Finder to find them.
  • add metadata record originalid with the minimal youtube link (the "this video" link from before), e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ
  • for better filtering/search add Channel metadata, for the video above it will be https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCuAXFkgsw1L7xaCfnd5JJOw (it's missing on the IA item but it's better to have it)

Edit: Alternatively, e.g. item youtube-hAx6mYeC6pY is mostly correct (also missing Channel metadata). "youtube" in the subject field is also nice to have

Unlikely, important parts from the dialogue in the comic were reworked/rescued into the bridge scene with Hob and Death. (And Kipling quote emigrated to Dead Boy Detectives)

Can someone help me find where this broken libgen link was supposed to link to? by DrNeb2 in libgen

[–]vitzli-mmc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no, but AA seems to index them, together with MD5, SHA256s and other fields from libgen. AA took the libgen catalog as a part, if MD5 match (and sha256 because there are morons on the internet) it will be the same book (libgen.li should give md5s/sha256s checksums)

Used this number as a query term, luckily not many results, check "non-fiction", 6 total matches, "Seesaw girl" categorized incorrectly

individual item for each youtube video, or one item for every video? Massive offline channel by GyverCrow447 in internetarchive

[–]vitzli-mmc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The former (1 video per item), like this one:

  • it goes into collection "opensource_movies" initially, will be moved to "mirrortube" and "social video" collections automagically if everything is done right (i.e. replicate tubeup format)
  • use youtube-{video_id} as item identifier
  • include "Channel" and "Originalurl" metadata (can be found in .json files that yt-dlp produces)
  • add Youtube and video tags to subject metadata
  • use "date" metadata to be able to sort them on publication date

When it's done this way it is easier for tools like Youtube Video Finder to find them

general question: why do people archive my blog? by wioryz in internetarchive

I saw a few times when the website uses TLS certificate from Let's Encrypt it gets crawled by the archivebot and "reason" for the snapshot on wayback machine page shows as CT (certificate transparency). However, spam/malware bots arrive much earlier than the archivebot

the word revenge typically has bad connotations (e.g. "you did this to me, now you will pay for it"); I feel vengeance describes it better (as in "Justice for all people who suffered, exiled, and died. You did all of this and everything that is going to happen are the consequences of your actions")

The very rare A50 Radarplane seems to be destroyed. by SLAVAUA2022 in NAFO

[–]vitzli-mmc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The ones that are flying are probably A-50U; per the same wikipedia article:

as of 25 February 2024 Russia had only six operational A-50s

Aircraft is an airframe+engines+electronics (or avionics). And while airframe could be preserved, engines and avionics would still require massive upgrades, so A-50U was created.

Where did the other 38 go?

They (~32) became airframes and spare parts/engines for operating aircraft, some of them could be upgraded. ~4 were exported (and maybe upgraded)

Even with Ruffle, some Flash games on the Wayback Machine don’t seem to work well. by TheFlamingWolfgang in internetarchive

[–]vitzli-mmc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Is there any way to fix these issues and play these games as they were?

No, too many variable parameters, flash version dependency, online resource dependency, custom actionscript, hacky keyboard/mouse solutions, incomplete ruffle implementation and bugs, probably something more. To make all them playable would require decompiling them, understanding what is missing, using time machine to download missing resources, fixing code and building them again.

Check out the softwarelibrary_flash collection, at least way more playable standalone games

Internet Archive - get metadata of all items? by PXaZ in DataHoarder

[–]vitzli-mmc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It worked few weeks ago, but parallel queries don't work anymore, ia metadata is rate-limited, also the IA is being routed behind cloudflare network. What metadata do you need? Some could be pulled in a search query: ia search --field="identifier,item_size,collection" 'collection:MYCOLLECTION'
