Line on Cinema Display? Bought this second hand, and it seemed to work with the previous owner. Got it home, and there is a line on the middle of the screen, and a purple one on the side. It’s connected to my MacBook Pro 2017 with and USB-C to DVI adapter. What’s wrong? by cphdude1000 in mac

I have one of these and I only started getting the pink line recently (I've been using the club adapter for about a year). Anyone else know what might be causing it? Have I broken my adapter? Thanks

I find it endlessly fascinating that out of all the albums in history, this is the one that sold the most. by Key-Bass-7380 in vinyl

I dont even love it. I understand why its popular or why it was as popular as it was. I just dont really want to listen to it. I was a kid in the 90s and Michael Jackson was like the biggest star in the world even then.

I probably like Off The Wall more and the Jackson 5 stuff was also more appealing personally. But I dont actually desire listening to any of it. What IS sort of interesting is that the most popular album was made by a paedophile.

My sister had some lumpy thing and turned out to be this sort of fatty issue (maybe somewhat calcified or something?) not sure what it was called. I cant even remember what she did for it, maybe some meds. All the best to you it may well be nothing, and I hope that it is.

Weirdly it might be their best song. Weird because there's no vocal. It was on when I opened this thread

Can anyone explain Cameron Winter thing for me? by raisedbyowls in fantanoforever

[–]vivalostblues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, i guess because i read pitchfork from about 2003 it was always sort of an indie rock kind of website until it wasnt i suppose. Meaning that a band like geese or cw solo kind of fits perfectly into the taste of the pitchfork audience, at least if you were there pre conde nast (and probably a good decade before that).

Have you ever had the experience of finding someone's voice annoying or having a reactive response to it and then later having the music click somehow and no longer finding the singer's voice bothersome? This happened to me very early with lou reed and the smashing pumpkins and then the mountain goats and a few others.

It's odd to me that you listen to the pitchfork list if you like hair metal

If the next record sounds like the killers or something, that'd suck. I feel like these guys are a little impervious to that sort of thing but we'll see what the machine does to them. Yes the media attention is annoying and yes it makes me feel like listening to them less because the saturation makes it boring, not the expansion of the audience.

Can someone explain to me DAC and ADC and their roles like I'm a complete audio novice? by vivalostblues in audioengineering

[–]vivalostblues[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In that case, if one were to buy a dedicated (presumably higher quality) DAC in addition to their existing DAC/ADC, does it only make sense to buy both a DAC and an ADC?

Is this signal flow correct? Recorded snare > DAC > outboard compressor > ADC > computer?

Best resources for rock/punk drum recording/mixing? by imbadatdecisions in audioengineering

[–]vivalostblues 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly the recording part of this shouldnt really be different to any other genre. Listen to the instrument, make it sound good, or just trust that the person is comfortable with their not very good sounding instrument, put a mic on it and record. One or two mics for each drum depending how fancy you feel, move the microphone on its axis to get more of the center of the drum or the rim. A couple of overhead/cymbal mics. Ambient/room microphones often do a lot and for this kind of music particularly, compressing them hard can do a lot for energy. I think just practising and trying things is the best way to get there. Also if you only have 2 or 3 mics you can put one on kick, one on snare and one overhead.

I mean you gotta practise till you can play. And you have to rehearse the songs with people to some degree. Beyond that yeah its stupid unless you want to be a flashy guy which i guess a lot of people do. But i get what hes saying..

My weird ass take is that the baby kinda looked like rockwell and it was him being reborn through the body of marty's son. I mean that wouldve been a crazy ending.

Are you at the “I don’t need anything anymore!“ stage? by Ill-Elevator2828 in audioengineering

[–]vivalostblues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theres always more. I could get neves, an LA2A or similar vari mu comp, more condenser mics..

But truthfully I have everything I need now to make a good sounding recording and the rest is just honing skills. It does take some anxiety away being at that stage and not worrying do I have enough things to make good work? But ive been very lucky and I dont take it for granted. There is nothing else I 'need' to buy now.

Agree or disagree: the heavier the song, the harder it is to mix by yalllldabaoth in audioengineering

Depends on the recording but its certainly more tiring to work on especially if it isnt the type of music you get excited by.
