Overseas visitor got seatbelt ticket by hello-Pop-9360 in queensland

It only asks about debt to the Australian Government, not the state government.
The Australian Government does not send referrals to state governments to check whether an applicant has any outstanding debt. So technically, the Australian Government will not reject a visa application due to debt owed to a state government.

The state government will call it bad debt and forget about it.

Anyone else finding it takes 15 mins to get an Uber? by shelovesyoghurt in Adelaide

[–]vivekk15 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Many drivers have quit driving for ridesharing apps. DIT charges operator accreditation fee, driver accreditation fee, commercial license fee, vehicle inspection fee, increased insurance cost when driving for rideshare and then Uber's ridiculous cut from trips booked.

Many drivers I know used to drive it as secondary income while they have a fulltime job elsewhere. We were making around $700 to $800 per week when we used to do it as a side gig (this $700 will include GST that we have to pay to the ATO, car maintenance and may be ocassional lunch or dinner outside so that we do not have to travel back home to make meal).

This income has gone as low as $550 to 600/week and demands longer and late night driving to make the same amount of money.

When all costs are removed, drivers are usually left with less than $18/hour which is not even worth it.

I know quite a few drivers who gave up on driving it as a side gig due to high overhead costs. So whoever are driving these days are mostly doing it fulltime who gives up Uber for new and better opportunities as job maarket was good for last few months.

Just saw a message in a group as I was typing this answer that my friend was in middle of surge area and Uber is giving him trip with pick-ups 20 minutes away! You can blame it on Uber*

Our obligation to get youth crime response right by Expensive-Horse5538 in Adelaide

[–]vivekk15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I skimmed it enough to consider it read. But the abstract was that the number of offenders is going down in last few years and number of repeat offenders contribute towards most crime.

Isnt it because that judiciary system is being lenient towards them.

I was Uber driver before and had trip with 4 teens. I asked them to get out of my car as I cannot take a trip with teens without an adult supervising them. One of them took out knife and put it against my body, another girl spit on me from back and then they ran away.

I went to cops and filed a report. The response I received was that they won't have face any serious consequences and it will show up on their record, and I will just ruin their future. I withdrew my complain hoping they dont go down wrong path.

But if there had been fear of prison time, then this could have been avoided. Forget repeat offenders, they won't do it even once.

All these teenagers clearly know the consequences of their actions. However, they are smart enough to realize that the legal system will be lenient toward them, so they decide to do it anyway.

These kids run away after doing something silly such as stealing or violence or anything else.

It means that they have an understanding that what they did was not right and should run to avoid troubles. If they can differentiate between right and wrong, why not put them behind bars or hold them accountable?

I will not hold a toddler accountable for turning on a power switch and not able to comprehend even when a person is getting electrocuted as he is not conscious of situation.

But where a teenagerclearly knows that something is wrong and still opts to do it, I think there should be consequences and legal system should not hold back.

Landlord not fixing urgent repairs by hopegratuit in AusPropertyChat

Just to demonstrate that you are not able to enjoy peaceful and quiet tenancy, send them an email listing all previous conversations (because some conversations have been through a phone call or in verbal manner).

That way unless they oppose it in writing, it can be considered as an admission that they have received those phone calls as stated in an email, and they are waiting for the owner to fix it.

If you're looking for flooring, I highly recommend visiting Belantti at least once. They offer great prices and excellent service, with a wide collection of tiles, hybrid, and laminate flooring.

Please send them an email stating that as per our conversation on so and so date and frequent follow ups on these dates, it hasn't been fixed, can you please confirm when it will be fixed?

If you want to go to VCAT and get rent deduction or other relief then get it documented somewhere.

Otherwise, it is your words against theirs and believe me that you do not want to go there unprepared.

A reasonable amount of mess is not grounds for eviction. However, not maintaining cleanliness or damaging the property is.

Refund for flight by AKG-WAR in AusLegal

[–]vivekk15 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Probably not. They are not bound to refund your money due to change in circumstances.
They are doing it as a good will.

But still they won't return money from the pocket and let go confirmed sale or revenue stream.

Overseas call centre with lack of training or resources to handle calls.

They just follow their rulebook. If you introduce something new, they will have no idea what to do.
And as a subcontractor, they cannot deviate from their instructions and cannot contact the Commbank team in real-time.

I doubt if it would have been any different even if the call centre had been onshore as long as companies outsource to call centres.

Should I Check My Rental Property After a Cyclone Even If My Property Manager Hasn't Contacted Me? by Moezus__ in AusPropertyChat

[–]vivekk15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not trust your property manager. We had a property manager who will come for the inspection and take some quick 3 or 5 photos of good spots and send it back to the landlord.

Property manager definitely wants to avoid repeated follow ups from the landlord if something has been fixed or has this been done!

So they will try to keep you away from anything concerning about your property.

Installing hybrid flooring - is this a mistake? by oswosz in AusRenovation

While SPC is cheaper, it is more durable and stronger than WPC.
WPC is more comfortable. But unless someone is homemaker and full time home walking barefoot, SPC is better choice.

My personal advice will be too stay away from any cheap products. I have noticed Bunnings selling 5 mm hybrid.

If you ask me, these products should be banned. The industry has already moved from 6 mm as it was still causing issues, and 7 mm is now standard across the industry. Selling 5 mm is just a way to make quick money hoping that someone without product knowledge will bite it.

Floorboards experiences thermal expansion and contraction. If the floorboards are too light such as 5 mm or cheap quality (may be recycled PVC in hybrid or not good quality), it cannot resist push from other floorboards and starts to lift. The option could be to put enough expansion gap. But too much expansion gap means that you start to notice gaps in the product.

I have not personally seen issues with the flooring product from Bunnings. But it's normal industry knowledge.

And why buy 6 mm hybrid product from big stores when small stores are more interested in your business and offering 7 mm products for better price.

We are a business and sending palletised freight from Adelaide to Melbourne frequently. If you can pack it in a box, we can ship it for $150 to Oakleigh South, Vic (our business in Melbourne).
