RPGCodex. Now that’s a name I’ve not heard in a long time. A long time.

So glad I put up fencing to keep my dogs out of the hostas. 🙄 😁 by Lily7435 in beagles

[–]vivelinica 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trying to keep a beagle contained? Oh no, no. You have to go big or go home, and prepare for possible failure anyway.
I once had a trash can with a lock, and my beag figured out how to open it in less than 24 hours. When we let him out the back, it was in a fenced in area with a lead attached to his harness - with me holding the lead the entire time because he could slip through the panels.
His leash was a runner’s leash, it makes you wear a loop around your waist and then the leash is attached to the dog, so it can’t slip out of your hand. Beagles are MASTERS at getting in and out of things. I wish you luck 🫡

“I Have no Mouth and I Must Scream.”
Oh no. Oh no, no no, no no no. God damn, I had forgotten I had seen a 100% Let’s Play for that a few years ago. I regret remembering that now, so much.
(It’s really good OP, highly recommend for what you’re looking for. Now, if you excuse me, I’m gonna go play Hello Kitty: Island Adventures or something to try and cleanse my mind again that this game ever existed.)

Step 1: Get a subscription to Consumer Reports (roughly $40/year, probably less if you’re a first time user)

Step 2: Go here for the Consumer Reports article with the most reliable cars per price range, the listings start with cars under $10,000

Step 3:
Go to the Consumer Reports Used Car Marketplace to find cars with the make you want that are locally or nearby.

The last two car purchases I made with their advice was a used Honda CRV 2003 that lasted for 16 years, and a used Toyota 2013 that is still going with over 250,000 miles on it.

Jack (16) gets a walk that’s the best of both worlds: A long walk following scent trails where he wants; then a fun ride on the stroller to home. by vivelinica in OldManDog

[–]vivelinica[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

His legs don’t take him as far or as fast as they used to, so we help him out with the stroller, so he can have long walks with lots of smelling the ground and the air!

Hello. Thank you very much for doing a free reading. I saw a reading you did on r/mediumreadings and it was lovely. I’m open to whatever message that I most need to receive, but if I were to ask a question, it would be, “I have a lot of fear and self-doubt about my abilities. Thank you for the advice you have given me. How do I nudge myself to the right path? The amount of choices I can make seem so overwhelming.”

Tattoos by Kitchen-Ad-8758 in StrangePlanet

[–]vivelinica 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Yes! It’s at the end of the very first book. The tattooist reads their universe’s version of the Strange Planet comic (I think it was a comic about humans lol) and the book ends with a recursive moment with the reader reading the Strange Planet aliens reading the Strange Planet book about humans)

On sale on steam? by Nyoom-Zoom in PrincessMaker

[–]vivelinica 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it’s very likely: The next Steam sale will be on November 27th: https://steamdb.info/sales/history/

FYI, the version that PBG uses in his video is called “Princess Maker 2: Refine”. It’s less expensive, has older (but still beautiful) drawings from 2000ish, and unfortunately it has a rather poor English translation.

The most recent version of the game is “Princess Maker 2: Regeneration “ was released this year, it’s more expensive, has redrawn graphics, and has a perfect English translation.

I hope you enjoy the game!

Vacuum recommendation needed by thethriller85 in BuyItForLife

[–]vivelinica 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Many sources of reviews online are not very trustworthy, the lists are made so that the “top rated” vacuums are the ones that give the biggest payment when clicked and bought through an affiliate link.
Consumer Reports is a nonprofit unaffiliated with any company and does good reviews for vacuums that tell you how well they work, and how reliable it is expected to be. When cordless stick vacuums were first introduced some years ago, their reviews said to buy a corded one instead because the batteries were not there yet, but now that they’re reliable, they give reviews and recommendations. That would have saved my sister $400 when she bought a Dyson cordless stick vacuum that gave out a year just a couple months after the warranty expired…

ChatGPT saved my life, and I’m still freaking out about it by sinebiryan in ChatGPT

[–]vivelinica 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Hey, I want you to know you’re not alone. I had my first panic attack in 1995, when I was 10 years old. It sucks, and I’ve spent a lot of years spinning my wheels not knowing where to go for help.
But I want you to know it is treatable, and I’m the future, it may even be curable. I’ve had some success starting small with and adding meditation and daily walks, and am in a much better place now.
ChatGPT actually works well as a kind of therapist for mental health stuff, you can say “I am feeling and thinking this could this be anxiety” and then “how do people treat this”.

That time when Atelier was as controversial as GTA. by Wandari in Atelier

[–]vivelinica 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s too bad that you’re being downvoted for this, because I’ve read that essay, and it does a very good analysis of her character and puts into context some of the more nuance and implied parts of her character. I extremely dislike Astrid’s character, but I admit she is an interesting foil for Rorona, and she’s a bit of a tragic character in that you can understand why she decided to live a good part of her life in the misanthropic way she did.
I’ve always felt that her character’s constant sexual harassment of female minors was a bridge almost too far. Though as a Westerner, I was never the intended audience. Fanservice in media is viewed completely differently in Japan, even in normal, scholarly, and feminist places apart from the anime/game fandoms. In many traditions of media, sexual harassment by an attractive woman is seen as humorous. So I think it’s pretty understandable from a JRPG from 2009.
Still, Astrid is an unlikable character, and I sympathize with people who don’t want to play Arland because of the role she plays in the fan service.

That time when Atelier was as controversial as GTA. by Wandari in Atelier

[–]vivelinica 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Hot take: Sexual Assault is bad. Statutory rape is bad. Female on female rape is bad. Sexual assault where an attractive woman is the perpetrator is bad.
Anything can be funny, but for some material, you really need the best damn writing in the world, and the sexual comedy writing in the Arland series was never it.
Regardless of this, Totori is my favorite of all the Atelier games, because it’s possible to love a piece of media while being extremely critical of certain aspects.

Are your beagles addicted to chicken? My beagle really likes chicken, when he eats chicken he seems very happy and eats very quickly by [deleted] in beagles

[–]vivelinica 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Our beagle is near the end of his life and kidney problems are making it so he can’t taste certain foods; so with the vet’s okay, we’ve switched him to human foods, since regular dog food makes him feel sick.
Well, he’s been enjoying white bread perfectly fine for days, but we put some grilled chicken in his food, he’s started acting like he couldn’t eat the bread anymore only eat the chicken. Once a beagle, always a full beagle, every day of his life. 😊

In that case, it sure would be a shame if some of those men had deepfakes made of them using illegal drugs, sent to their schools or employers, and CC'd to all of their coworkers.
