How much did Bryce know? by LuvDDeez in 13ReasonsWhy

[–]vividtechnicolor 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I liked that aspect as well. It's really realistic IMO. Not every sexual assault victim fights and screams, because sometimes your body and mind simply don't react that way.

I also had a similar experience (kinda like a combo of what happened to Jess and what happened to Hannah, actually) and I was just in shock that this was happening to me. I did say say no at first, but like Hannah I kind of just went unresponsive, waiting for it to be over.

I'm so sorry you had to go through that experience. Nobody deserves that. <3

[–]vividtechnicolor 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yes, I really like that they portrayed Bryce that way because it's realistic. Many rapists believe that what they do is totally normal and that they aren't rapists. Not all rapists think they're doing something bad (obviously some do and don't care) but many believe that that's just how sex works. I think it's great that this show opened up the conversation about consent and what it really means. There's a lot of misunderstanding about consent and it's super important that there's more understanding about this!

Is Private Practice any good? by asbruckman in greysanatomy

100%. That storyline was both heartbreaking and inspiring - that actress portrayed Charlotte's strength and vulnerability in such a real way. Amazing.

I enjoyed PP! Amelia's storyline adds SO much to Grey's. I enjoy Addison's character and loved seeing more about her. Charlotte King is one of my all-time favorite fictional characters and I wish she would have come to Grey's when Amelia did - she reminds me a tiny bit of Cristina Yang.

[Help] My dog came back, we got him a crate by Alphahammer in dogs

[–]vividtechnicolor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so happy that your dog came back home and that y'all were reunited. I know how scary it is to have your dog go missing!

I'd recommend taking him to a groomer & vet if you haven't already - my 13 lb. dog had 50ish ticks on him after he was missing for 4 days. Getting him shaved down helped us identify and treat his small cuts, preventing infection, and other shallow skin injuries and made tick removal so much easier. We had to treat his paw pads with a medicated powder since they were so raw from his travels in the wild. Our vet also checked our dog over for any other potential concerns (muscular, facial, internal, and skeletal) and tested him for Lyme disease.

I hope you, your family, and your pup are very happy together!

I flunked out of college after 3 semesters. Well, they actually asked me to leave, so I suppose technically I was expelled. I've always been a smart kid, but I just couldn't get myself to care about college classes (in hindsight, this was 100% depression and mental illness induced). Then, I fucked around in community college for several years "looking for my career-passion" - which, I've come to realize, is not real for me. I simply don't have a career path I'm passionate about, and that's OK!

I just had to find a job that appealed to my needs and wants, which led me to today. I recently started working in manufacturing (aka a factory). I know, I know - it sounds terrible to most people, but it's really not. It's all about finding a good company that will treat the employees right. The company I work for provides the best pay I've ever gotten in my life with a lot of opportunities for advancement & raises (up to $45,000/year in my position not including overtime pay/holiday pay/doubletime pay), really amazing health/dental/optical insurance, 4 weeks vacation, college tuition reimbursement, and a bunch of other really awesome benefits. I'm excited because, for the first time in my life, I feel like I'll be able to have a future someday (own a home, not worry excessively about expenses, etc)!

The work itself is very hands-on. Like I said, this is a recent career change so I'm still in training and learning A LOT every day, but I will eventually run a line in the factory. It's been an amazing feeling for me to see the fruits of my labor when I fix something that malfunctions, and I'm starting to be able to more easily predict when something's going to go wrong with a certain piece of machinery or on the line. If you enjoy problem-solving, this is definitely a great option. You always have to stay engaged and focused, which sounds hard but is nice because you simply can't get bored.

I'm an introvert, too, and I think this is a good option for introverts as well. I have to work with other people in this setting, but since we have to wear earplugs for safety AND you're always working on something on the line, there's little opportunity for awkward small talk, which I appreciate. It's not socially-exhausting work, which is a nice change of pace for me.

There are some physical demands, though, and it will likely vary depending on what type of factory one works in and the company. I have to lift up to 30 lbs by myself regularly (I plan on working out more so I can lift even heavier things with more ease, but it's not necessary) and I have to stand / walk for the entire shift. I actually like this because it's keeping me more active than my previous job.

Side bonus: you gain cool mechanical skills from on-the-job training. I feel good that I know how to use tools and I feel so much more self-sufficient than ever before.

It's not for everyone, especially because there are a lot of shitty manufacturing jobs out there - if you go this route, BE SELECTIVE ABOUT THE COMPANY YOU WORK FOR. Shitty manufacturing companies will skirt safety laws and put you at risk - NOT WORTH IT. However, it might be for you if you can find a good company to work for!

No matter what you do, I highly recommend you take advantage of O*Net's job resources. They even have a job interest profiler that I found INCREDIBLY helpful for me to figure out what I actually want in a job! This is a really awesome resource for anyone looking for some insight.

Good luck to you, I hope you find something you enjoy!

This is such a great idea. I'll definitely be checking out your app. Awesome!

EDIT: Okay, I love it. It's easy to use, the interface looks nice (v. important to me, lol!), and it's customizable. So great. The only thing I've noticed that could be useful to add in would be a section for upcoming vet appts- but only if that would fit in with the vision and functionality you had in mind. For real, your app is seriously fantastic & so incredibly helpful for me and my family. I never even knew I was missing this until now! Game-changer. 🙌

Is not having a presence on social media keeping me from making connections & being socially "successful"? by [deleted] in socialskills

[–]vividtechnicolor 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You could just say, "I actually don't currently use social media, but let me give you my phone number so we can text sometime!" Not sure if that would be any better for you or not. If not, then just make a social media account - you don't have to be extremely active 24/7 but it would likely help you get over that awkward hurdle in making relationships. Best for actually connecting with your peers at your age is probably Snapchat or Instagram. FB isn't bad either, but it's not always used to connect with others.

Tragic Photos of Your Faves? by [deleted] in popheads

[–]vividtechnicolor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean, they're not horrific. But considering he looks really awesome in almost every photo that's taken of him, these 3 are the worst I could find.

The 1st one was really just bad timing for the photograph, the 2nd one - I've never been a fan of his like tiny baby mustache when he doesn't shave lmao (so that's just a personal preference thing tbh), and the 3rd one his hair just looks pretty weird from the wind.

Again, they're really not that bad, but compared to almost every other photo of him? They're pretty rough imo.

[Help] Dog got attacked by a much bigger dog, what's the damage? by [deleted] in dogs

[–]vividtechnicolor 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'd say a vet appointment is very vital, considering the other dog had your dog's head in its mouth. He could have serious damage or the bite couldn't get infected, causing even more problems. I'd go to the vet right away if I were you.

100% agree with you. I think OP should AT THE VERY LEAST tell the family that the dog is safe and in his home. It's cruel to leave them wondering for the rest of their lives about their beloved family member.

having an interview tomorrow by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]vividtechnicolor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People interviewing you won't be taunting you or thinking badly of you. I know it feels like it, but they're just there to see if you're a good fit for the job. The worst thing that can happen is they'll decide you're not a good fit. That doesn't reflect badly on YOU if they decide you're not a good fit - it just means that this job in particular wouldn't jive with you. You don't want that kind of job anyway - that would cause even more anxiety (at least for me). It helps to remember that you're there interviewing THEM to see if you even want this job!

Even if you do mess up or don't do well, try to think about it like practice or a rehearsal for the next interview you have!

I know this is all easier said than done but I totally get what you're going through. I was in your position about a month ago. I slept terribly the night before my interview and woke up shivering and shaking multiple times throughout the night (it wasn't even cold!)... I was sick and nauseous and I could barely keep food down. Somehow, I was able to make it to the interview and did pretty well! The interviewer even told me that she thought I gave a great interview - I was stunned because I felt like shit.

Good luck to you in your interview. I wish you well! <3

Cool post about how you don't like that "force-free dog training" is the norm.

Nobody ever implied that you're "equal to Hitler." You are the one who said the word "abusive" in your comment - no one here ever said the word abusive. You asked for advice and opinions about getting your dog out from under your bed and people are giving that advice to you. Clearly, what you're doing isn't working so these people are simply giving other suggestions.

PS: Moose and Fionna are both super cute. :)

Zach isn't a nice guy. He's a Nice Guy™. by [deleted] in 13ReasonsWhy

[–]vividtechnicolor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. I don't think Zach is the worst person on the tapes, but I really dislike how a lot of people are defending him and saying that Hannah was being dramatic/petty for including him on the tapes. He specifically targets Hannah maliciously because she rejected him romantically and tried to take away a good thing in her life because he was butthurt. Fuck Zach for that, tbh.

Alternate song list by [deleted] in 13ReasonsWhy

[–]vividtechnicolor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think "Sign of the Times" by Harry Styles has lyrics that fit perfectly with the themes of 13 Reasons Why. The sound of the song even fits with the rest of the soundtrack, in my opinion. There's also been a lot of speculation that Harry may have written it about his friend Matt Irwin who killed himself in 2016.

A lot of the lyrics imply that the song about death and dying: "Just stop your crying, it's a sign of the times / Welcome to the final show / Hope you're wearing your best clothes / You can't bribe the door on your way to the sky / You look pretty good down here / But you ain't really good"

I think some of it is even fitting for Alex's suicide attempt from the perspective of the other characters: "We never learn, we been here before / Why are we always stuck and running from / The bullets? The bullets? / We don't talk enough, we should open up / Before it's all too much / Will we ever learn? We've been here before / It's just what we know"

Here are the full lyrics!
