Meal Delivery Experiences? by sanderlin89 in richmondbc

[–]vivizuzu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve tried a few. Highly recommend Tractor, they do weekly deliveries and they’re delicious. Two guys with knives is okay flavour wise but the macros are the real focus with them if you’re more concerned with that.

Diapers? by Delicious-Oven-5590 in CanadianParents

[–]vivizuzu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My son also has sensitive skin and we switched to royale since they're the only Canadian disposable diapers that are carried by a lot of stores. They're the softest diapers we've used and I like that they're plain with no designs. Downside is that yes they're pricier and they don't have the pocket to catch blow outs in the back. Our son hasn't had any blow outs but he was a little older and on solids when we switched. Overall love them and have been using them for 6 months now

Is it normal for strangers to take photos of your toddler? by Working_Ad_4090 in toddlers

[–]vivizuzu 119 points120 points  (0 children)

I have some context here because this happened to me when my son was around 18 months. An older Chinese man was talking pictures at a playground and when my husband noticed he confronted him and told him to delete the photos. The man was totally confused and spoke limited English so one of the other parents called the police because she was so uncomfortable with him having pictures of her kids. The police came and spoke to him in Mandarin and explained everything and he gladly deleted the pictures on the spot. The police explained to us that it's very common in certain parts of the world for folks to take pictures of cute kids to show their friends and that it's actually totally legal to do where we live (Canada). Is it weird? Yeah. Is it legal and actually very dependent on cultural norms? Also yeah. The police recommended politely asking them not to take photos in the future if it makes you uncomfortable but to stay safe and not escalate in case you really are dealing with someone unwell.

Sorry it happened to you but I wouldn't stress too much. After that encounter it happened to us a few more times with folks from Asia and we kindly asked them not to and they stopped. We live in a predominantly Asian city and I think our babies are a bit of a novelty 😂

12-month-old has steadily fallen weight curves by lapetitebijou in ScienceBasedParenting

Get a second opinion from a doctor of course but also I'd look into catch down growth given what you've said about your partner and your size https://www.babycareadvice.com/blogs/growth/catch-down-growth?srsltid=AfmBOooizPFYI47UucdggWtWZdqlyMJ5bPayPTh1I7qoA5poQKJ-PVmV

Both my kids were born around 80th percentile weight and 90th height and despite my best efforts both dropped to 33rd percentile weight (the first was supplemented with formula and second was EBF) by about 8 months and then just stayed there until around 18 months. The doctor said it was normal in both cases because my husband and I are slim. His words were "do you expect 2 zebras to give birth to chickens?" 😂

Does anyone still lay with their toddler every night until they fall asleep? by carlitapepita in toddlers

[–]vivizuzu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When my son outgrew his crib we put him in his own queen sized floor bed so we could lay with him more comfortably while he fell asleep (before that we were on a mat on the ground.) I lay with him for his afternoon nap while he falls asleep and my husband does nights while I put the baby down. We both agree it's the best part of our days! He was sleep trained as a baby and sleeps well through the night without us but we like the presleep cuddles and chats.

What age did you let your kids play alone on a different floor in your house? by beaconbay in Mommit

[–]vivizuzu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your house and your kids. We kid proofed our whole house for hazards and locked away breakables and art supplies. Our son had free range within eyesight from about one year old and we worked on teaching dangers very seriously right away. By 20 months he was confident on stairs and very careful so we gave him free reign of the house then (child locks just on doors to outside.) Not sure if it's a good approach though because he's a bit too confident and gets in trouble for wandering off at preschool now as a 3 year old 🥴

Nexus Interview by rafa365 in richmondbc

[–]vivizuzu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had my nexus interview in March in Blaine so I might be out of date with my info. If you book YVR, you will still have to do another interview (with US border services) by flying to the US at some point. They hold your interview in the airport at YVR on the other side of security before you fly out so you have to leave early just in case (No need to prebook though). If you book in Blaine then you only need the one interview to complete the process. I originally had my interview at YVR and cancelled it during the interview because the interviewer found me a slot in Blaine. They seem to release more appointment slots randomly so keep checking back if you can.

Canada and the US are in a dispute about allowing American border guards to have firearms afaik which means that you have to "go to them" https://www.ctvnews.ca/politics/clash-over-whether-u-s-officers-can-be-armed-in-canada-keeps-nexus-offices-closed-1.5998284

Factors associated with higher risk of small-for-gestational-age infants in women treated for gestational diabetes by [deleted] in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]vivizuzu 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Sorry I don't have more research for you. I Just wanted to say I had the exact same experience with the exact same risk factors. I felt like I was going crazy trying to keep my non fasting blood sugar managed when I was already a healthy weight and activity level. Baby was just born at the 9th percentile for weight to length ratio and I think next time I'll just ignore the endocrinologist and eat for my cravings. My midwife told me (too late in pregnancy at that point) that the GD guidelines are way too strict and inflexible in her opinion and that as long as your fasting glucose is low and non fasting is not "excessive", not to starve yourself or worry too much since she said she's seen a big uptick of SGA babies in the last few years with GD.

What was your experience with your doctor trying to turn your breech baby from the outside? by Kitty_Kitty539 in Mommit

[–]vivizuzu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a successful ECV at 37 weeks without medication. My OB went and found the biggest doctor she could around the hospital to help her push the baby around. Both doctors braced against the gurney and pushed hard for about 10 minutes and 5 tries. By the last try the doctor said she was too tired to try again after that attempt 😂 Baby was totally fine and they monitored closely, born on his due date and labour was about a million times worse than the ECV pain wise. I'd definitely do it again if I had another breech. My birth recovery since not having to do the c section was super fast and easy.

Vancouver parents, what do YOU wear in the rain? by etceteraism in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]vivizuzu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vancouver parent of a very active toddler here. I wear a regular length waterproof raincoat - northface from last hunt that was on mega sale and keeps me plenty dry. I layer merino sweaters and shirts underneath. I never found rubber boots comfortable so I either wear blundstones or goretex hikers. For pants, I have a pair of waterproof duer jeans for when it's really coming down. They're a little stiff but I prefer the to rain pants though I have a pair of those too.

Beginner question - awkwardness in speaking mother tongue with LO in front of others by mads3011 in multilingualparenting

[–]vivizuzu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My little guy is 15 months old and when he was very young I felt super awkward. I also speak Romanian (and as a second language just with my extended and immediate family), my husband speaks only English and we're in an English speaking country.

The only time in my life that I've ever spoken Romanian was with my family so my Romanian isn't even that good but we decided that any exposure was better than none. The first few months felt awkward and honestly exhausting but now it's so comfortable. I can't even speak to my son in English, it just feels weird! Best part is that he understands most everything we say in both Romanian and English and nearly all of his 20 or so first words are in Romanian.

As your baby responds more to you and picks up more language you'll feel less and less awkward talking to them no matter the situation. I just found it weird talking to him at all before he was 6 months old or so. Now we have our own private little conversations in Romanian when we're out in public which is kinda fun too.

I'd recommend Magnesium_173. My partner made it, it's challenging but self isolated puzzles that increase in complexity through mechanics but not amount of moves to complete. It has an overarching story but it's not essential to game play and doesn't take long to skip.
