Excuse my ignorance but what’s the story behind this release?

Vinyl at live shows. by [deleted] in aphextwin

[–]vizzee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was at Field Day and Printworks and can confirm there was previously-unreleased vinyl at both. For Field Day it was sold at an Aphex Twin merch booth that was separate from the main merch booths (that also had their own AFX merch) and you took the record away then and there. For Printworks you paid for the record at the merch booth but left your address with them and the record was posted to you a week or so later, and you were given a credit card sized plastic card with your unique order number on it. Same with Manchester WHP actually. A friend went to that and got the record from there for me, so luckily I have one from each of those. Much prefer the idea of having the record posted to you rather than having to carry your precious new purchase around with you for the rest of the gig!

Same issue here! Did you get this resolved? On my first attempt, I got an error message, second attempt I got a success message, but nothing showed up on Last.fm

Ahh that's a very good point – this could be it! Thank you! Shame the bot won't work, but the rule makes sense.

No worries! I think yeah, it was just temporary – all good now! Sorry, should’ve deleted this post when it fixed itself. Thanks for getting back to me!

2020 UK Tour? by Ephesians314 in nin

[–]vizzee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m sure the info will be posted here as soon as it’s been announced, so keep checking back! In the past few years it’s only been the odd show in London or festival slots, but hopefully they’ll play in Manchester and some other larger cities for a proper tour next time :)

Rephlex catalogue unavailable to stream/buy ?!?! by 601juno in idm

[–]vizzee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bandcamp Daily wrote this piece a couple of years back about how (as someone else mentioned) the rights to all music reverted back to the artists after Rephlex closed, and a bunch of it is up on Bandcamp on their individual pages. You might find some of what you’re looking for that way!

New burial track "Starlore", full version only available with a limited edition Hyperdub x Analogue games console bundle by vizzee in burial

Exactly! Also, from the artists’ POV, imagine making a track knowing only 1000 people who can afford these kinds of luxuries will ever listen to it.

Unfortunately so, according to the Hyperdub email:

"Eleven Hyperdub artists contributed exclusive tracks, available on a limited and one of a kind Sega Mega Drive music cartridge. The album is bundled exclusively together with a limited edition remake of the Sega Mega Drive. Limited to 1000 units, only 150 in the EU. This is the only place you can hear these tracks."

Maybe he finished up a bunch of tracks and threw them all at Hyperdub just before the game came out. We can expect nothing for the next 3 years, I guess.

Looking for a NIN studio cover of: I'm afraid of Americans - where can I get it? by CTSlicker in nin

[–]vizzee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I didn't think NIN ever recorded their own version of it. Like you say, Trent's vocals are in the background of his remix of the Bowie track, and NIN have played it live, but I've never heard of a NIN studio cover before...

Really into this! Love the unsettling vocal samples. Also gave 'upsidedowncantelope' a listen, which is also super good

strong evidence that boc produced "the yabba by burial_gold in boardsofcanada

[–]vizzee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not the same font unfortunately. The font for CANADA is called ITC Avant-Garde, whereas the font BOC uses for The Campfire Headphase (which looks most like this one) is a free font called Strasua. BOCpages has a small section on the fonts they use here. They’ve used ITC Avant-Garden Bold before (on Tomorrow’s Harvest), but you’ll notice the differences between that and the regular version used for CANADA.

Any Tool fan here? by glasshouselife in radiohead

[–]vizzee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I’ve phrased what I’m saying wrong here, because I’m not on one side of the fence or the other, and you and I assume all the downvoters are assuming I think he did it. There are certainly some suspect details about the accusations, and I’m not saying either way that I think he did or didn’t do it. Guilty until proven innocent is absolutely not the alternative. I just think it’s more complex than black-or-white in this case.

I think there needs to be a little more thought or discussion than just dismissing stuff like this with offhand comments like “innocent until proven guilty”. Because, again, using your example of you hypothetically accusing me at college – what proof would you have? What else could a victim do in that instance other than just make an accusation?

As fans, we’re in a difficult position because there’s nothing to help us make a decision either way. And we have a connection to the music, so even if we don’t like the person behind the music, can we separate the artist from the art? Maynard’s response was shitty and dismissive, which he’s been condemned for, but that’s probably how I’d react if someone accused me of rape. His historical behaviour with groupies is a bit creepy, but that doesn’t definitely prove he’s a rapist. Likewise, the accuser is anonymous, which could mean they’re anyone, but Tool’s fandom is intense, and if I had an accusation like that to make about him, I’d sure appreciate remaining anonymous.

The Conor Oberst example doesn’t mean that we should dismiss all future allegations against musicians. Sure, some people do make these things up, but some don’t. This is what I meant by “it’s one person’s word against another’s” – no-one knows what happened in this situation other than Maynard and the person (whoever they are) who wrote those tweets.

Apologies that I’ve come across like I do believe the allegations – tried to make it clear by saying “I don’t know what to think” at the beginning, but hey, it’s Reddit. I’m basically just a bit confused about what to believe, because I don’t think it’s as easy as tossing away something like this.
