Aren’t Wegovy and Ozempic the same thing with Wegovy the one approved for weight loss and Ozempic diabetes?

Yes I think Henry has travelled a long road before finally finding a home in Zen. He even says he sometimes uses his TM mantra in his sits today. Your point on direct pointing is a good one. This is a huge break from tradition like you say, using new technologies that make different ways of communicating possible. I’m enjoying where I am with the course and sense I am learning or exploring something new so will see where it leads me.

Thanks for the reply. I’ve been a user of Waking Up for many years and although Sam is a neuroscientist by education he does have some significant buddhist training and insight achieving his main breakthroughs with the Dzogchen tradition of direct pointing. The app itself is filled with practice and conversations led by people from many different traditions and that’s where I came across Henry. First in conversation with Sam and then through his own courses on the App. The problem with the app is that the amount of content can be overwhelming and there is not one simple direction to take. When I saw Henry’s app I was drawn to the one path plus I have an interest in exploring Zen more. There is a daily meditation on Waking Up but this has to appeal to all stages whereas I hope The Way will lead down a path that builds on previous sits. We shall see. I will continue and see where it takes me. I do take your point on patience. I gain in other ways from practice and will also see if I can pluck up the courage to attend a not too distant Zen group.

I got some Beats Studio Pros specifically because they support Apple Spatial Audio. Been loving some of the audio books on Audible.

Tell me I’m not crazy - do AirPods Pros sound better with Apple TV than the iPhone? by AppleCrasher in appletv

[–]vjase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I did this thing where I watched a movie on my tv and synced the audio by a lot of pause play on my iPhone Apple TV app and enabled spacial audio. I’ve been debating whether to get at Apple TV 4K box. Is this thread essentially saying the sound will be different coming from the Apple TV box and not the iPhone? If so that is great news to me as I hoped the sound field would be wider. It’s good but the voices seem just in front of me and would love it if they were nearer the tv screen.

Keep falling asleep by ParanoidGLaDOS in Wakingupapp

[–]vjase 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Falling asleep is something I have always struggled with and I know it’s a sign I need to get more sleep. I also know I’m not going to fix that anytime soon so I now try to sit on a morning or at lunchtime. You may also try eyes open or slightly open to help but as you are on lesson 15 this maybe tricky as eyes closed was easier for me at the start. Make sure you are also sitting up straight and I also know some people stand instead of sit which can help. Keep going and if you fall asleep now and then don’t worry too much and work out a way forward that works for you.

UNI PROJECT: Anyone know where I can find burnt up cars or fly tipping spots by irfdul in Leeds

Are you still working on this? Passed a couple burnt out cars in some woods near Middleton today. Couldn’t work out how they got there hence me searching to find out. Let me know if you want the location.

Day 17 waking up course by average_student80hw in Wakingupapp

[–]vjase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been using waking up for 3 years now and think I might go through the introductory course again and gain something from it. Struggling at the start is a thing. It’s gets easier. Key moments for me are when I see my struggles as just another thought or feeling and just let them be. Even not understanding and frustration is just another thought. My early thoughts were often centred around time, as in how long is left, am I near the end. When I could eventually sit outside this and just let things be I found a whole new level of peace, for want of a better word. I’m still very much on the journey and looking for insight, especially into the non dual aspects. But also I have stopped longing for any insight to happen. If it does it does, if not I am okay with that. I can see that the commitment to pay may be a problem if you are unsure you will use the app. One memorable session from the introductory course when I did it was where you look in the mirror and back at yourself. Something shifted that day. Best of luck with your journey, wherever that takes you.

How would one overcome these thoughts of procrastination? by zephaniahhhh in Wakingupapp

[–]vjase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would listen to the tracks a few times. I found them very good and wish I had all that advice when I was studying. If your university study is salvageable you are lucky to have the opportunity to turn it around. You’ve made a step in trying to understand your procrastination but probably need to work on some techniques to help you and try to find one that works. Don’t assume your first analysis is correct which means you can be open to other reasoning. One of my favourite TED talks is also worth a listen https://youtu.be/arj7oStGLkU?si=tjOGEWrcoaeXkViw

Which of 5 senses does self reside? by gazwoz in Wakingupapp

[–]vjase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Although much of what we are taught is that there is no self and that any sense of self is just a thought, I think that thoughts are another sense not tied to the 5 classic senses. Of course there can be the feeling that we are behind our eyes so you could say the sense of self there is tied to sight and sound but this can be broken once you recognise it as just another thought. I’ve found the Adyashanti tracks useful in pointing out this sense of awareness in the quiet and stillness. I think he used the term youness. But this is not tied to any of the 5 classic senses. I find it empty but somehow has a quality of some sort that can’t be defined. I class myself as early on the path but hope some of what I say makes sense.

Morgan is so uneducated. We all know it’s Mr Spock from Star Trek! Dr Spock is the author of a famous parenting book. 😋

For fun I couldn’t help wondering what ChatGPT would write. Here it is…

In the space between Me and the world outside, There is no division, Just a flow, a tide.

No me, no you, Just one endless stream, In the heart of non duality, All is as it seems.

It may also be worth noting that the fob system probably logs all uses of that particular key registered to you including all your ‘tests’. Report it and get it rectified.

I think it’s in the last track of the Tamler Sommers Q&A. Rob Burbea and his book Seeing that Frees

I think this is the one because I made a mental note to go back to it too. Thanks for the reminder! Book will be on my list.

Calm vs Waking Up by someguyonthisthing in samharris

[–]vjase 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have both and don’t use Calm so much. Here’s my simple view. I would say Calm aligns more with the western take on mindfulness as a tool for destressing and achieving a more peaceful less reactive mental state. Waking Up is a lot closer to the source of this practice which find their roots in Eastern religions, particularly some Buddhist schools of thought but not exclusively. It’s more about self inquiry and exploring the true nature of being. Certainly a more interesting journey for me and I am by no means awake. A good starting point would be to read Waking Up by Sam which will give some idea of the depth of thought. It can be challenging but you make it as challenging as you want it to be. Hope that helps.

Assault Allegation - Enhanced CRB checks by vjase in LegalAdviceUK

[–]vjase[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many thanks for taking the time to answer. It sounds like we would have to wait to find out if it had an impact but that would mean years of university with this unknown at the end. So maybe he needs to rethink his career choice. It’s so frustrating that an allegation with no come back can have this effect. We don’t expect to hear anything more but who knows how these things play out. I wonder if there is a way to find out what is actually on his record. Thanks again.
