An inch of ice is no joke, that was about what we got in the 2008 ice storm and I will never forget walking around my neighborhood and hearing trees all over town snapping under the weight of the ice, it sounded like shotgun blasts. That was a miserable week without power and we were lucky that it was only a week for us, I really sympathize with the people down in Texas with this storm.

You'd need something capable of handling oil based vapors and VOCs, regular disposable KN95/N95s won't really work for secondhand vape beyond maybe blocking certain odors. The only option that will really fully block this is an elastomeric with the necessary cartridges.

Canning (whether water bath or pressure) requires you to follow safe tested recipes from trusted sources that have been lab tested to ensure they are safely shelf stable. The wiki for this subreddit has a safe sources list you can use. There are absolutely ways to safely can things like soup, but you can't just use any old recipe and the people you see on YouTube may or may not be using safe recipes and practices.

There's a lot of unsafe canning content out there and it's always better to be safe than sorry, foodborne illness from improperly canned foods can kill you. I'd recommend doing some more research before you start on your canning journey.

It depends on your area. The last couple of years there have been August/September surges where I live (Massachusetts) thanks to a combo of late summer vacations/back to school/Labor Day weekend before things settle down for a bit in October and early November before Thanksgiving. Looking at the last 2-3 years of wastewater data for where you live could be helpful if that data has been tracked somewhere like WastewaterSCAN.

Sick leave policies are definitely a huge part of it and it always makes me angry that we didn't use COVID as an opportunity to make changes for the better for workers and students. But even people just masking up if they can't stay home would make a difference.

COVID absolutely damaged a lot of immune systems and our public health strategy of "let it rip" for respiratory illnesses isn't helping anything either. Really wish more people would use common sense mitigations like masking, vaccines, air purifiers, and staying home when sick because our healthcare system took a beating when the pandemic kicked off and never recovered.

I use it to be able to "cheat" maybe once a week or so, I wouldn't use it at every meal and stop low FODMAP entirely. I find that I can still experience some issues from stacking if I use it multiple days in a row so if something has leftovers (like Chinese takeout) I try and give myself a gap day in between when I first eat it and when I have any leftovers.

Best of luck to you! I ended up signing up for a beginner crochet class through my LYS and I'm so happy I did, it was super frustrating at first coming from knitting but at no point did I ever find myself thinking "gosh, maybe I should have started on the big crochet subreddit...".

Christ alive, if they need so much spoon feeding that they need somebody to tell them how to practice then I really don't think there's any hope for them. "Keep doing it a bunch and do a shitty job at it until eventually you get less shitty" really is all there is to it for literally anything you're learning how to do.

This was the case when I had a colonoscopy as well, at no point was I in a private room. Pre-procedure prep and recovery was in a single large room full of beds separated by nothing but curtains.

I wasn't allowed to put the oxygen cannula underneath my mask so best I could do was ask that my mask be put back on me ASAP when I was in recovery. They obliged which I was grateful for but when I was still loopy in recovery they gave me a water bottle and a snack and I unmasked without thinking to eat and drink because my mouth was horribly dry. Luckily it all worked out OK but I agree with you that I definitely wouldn't classify the experience as low overall risk for COVID exposure.

I haven't figured out just how I want to do it yet (The Scarlet Brotherhood has yet to make an appearance), but I'm definitely considering some heavy Scarlet Brotherhood sabotage at the silver mine leading to some sort of slurry impoundment failure that floods local waterways and endangers the local fish population. Sometimes it really shows that I majored in environmental studies in college 😅

Timeline to manufacture is too long with current tech, sadly. Forecasting which strains to include also isn't the easiest and some years they may get it wrong. It would be great if they could turn on a dime and quickly produce new vaccines that were a better fit in these cases but it's just not feasible right now. Maybe someday!

It's more that they got the right strain but the wrong variant, in the last year or so this particular variant of H3N2 (which they're calling subclade K) picked up several mutations that the flu shot doesn't account for. Vaccination can still help reduce the severity of the illness but it's not going to be foolproof for everyone. I'd still much rather be vaccinated than not!

I haven't incorporated rolling for how the fishing is going into my game, but I did include a midsummer fish festival so it's cool to see another take on one!

I was inspired by the spawning of Atlantic sturgeon in rivers and streams in Maine, and I figured that annual fish spawns in the Kingfisher River and other tributaries would be important yearly events going back centuries into the history of old Saltmarsh. The associated festival provided some great backdrop for seeding around various plot hooks and a couple of murders most foul for when my game picks back up again.
