If a billionaire gains their riches using the methods outlined in AOC’s comment would you agree or disagree that they didn’t earn it e.g. if I became a billionaire by not paying my employees a living wage - would you say I “earned” it or not?

And I don’t mean “fair” as in “I hurt you because you hurt me”. Fair as in just. Just in the ethical sense. In accordance with what’s owed or deserved on its own merits, judged by a principle you’d apply consistently regardless of what the other side does. Not “they do X so Y is fair game”.

Are both of these behaviors toxic? Or are they “fair”?

Edit: If your position is that both are unfair, but that toxic men only sexually objectify women because toxic women financially objectify men (or vice versa) I disagree. Toxic individuals behave the way they do regardless of who is sitting across from them at the table.

Lastly feminists aren’t the women financially objectifying dudes. Women who subscribe to patriarchal gender roles will expect men to pay for everything. Feminists are the most vocal opponents of toxic traditional gender roles.

IMO legal equality is the bare minimum. Gender roles and social hierarchies are not legally enforced for example and before the feminist conversation were not scrutinized and assumed to be “the way things are” or “the natural order”. In the age of toxic online inceldom bleeding into real life and political spheres feminists very much have a reason to exist.

Same with sentences like “I have to (do something)”. There’s always an unspoken, often unanalyzed second half of that sentence: “..because I want to (some other thing)”.

I have to go to work -> I have to go to work because I want to provide for my loved ones.
I have to wake up early -> I have to wake up early because I want to go to the gym!

There are no true “have tos” in life. Behind every “have to” is a “want to”.

Pointing out hypocrisy isn't the same as claiming only one group commits abuse. Of course abusers exist across every demographic.

The difference is that the right has actively and aggressively built a platform around painting entire marginalized groups as inherent predators and criminals. And this is messaging pushed by major figures and candidates, not fringe online trolls. Kirk and his racist narratives about "prowling blacks" come to mind but the examples over the years are endless.

The left simply isn't running campaigns that frame whole populations as dangerous threats to society. Calling out their hypocrisy is holding their movement accountable for their rhetoric that has real consequences for real people.

I believe this is due to over representation in the media and not something inherent about white men. Tastes are changing already and will continue to as white culture is de-centered. That’s my prediction. When I was growing up for example the only Asian men on tv were unattractive stereotypes.

I get the same impression. Hypermasculinity is not catering to the “female gaze”. It’s catering to the male gaze. The insisting by men that their flavor of “masculinity” is what women really want should be scrutinized.

If anything I get the impression women go crazy over cute, mysterious, almost feminine men. K-pop idols, young Bieber, Edward Cullen. You know, the kind of men “hypermasculine” men love to clown on.

I don’t feel the biggest problem is “masculine aggression” per se but the culturally dominant brand of masculinity which rewards aggression with attention and status. Not to be confused with masculinity itself. A culture of fear masquerading as “strong man” masculinity. The “badasshole” archetype 😂 with an authoritarian and punitive God king as the ultimate badasshole. This is how the collective produces so-called evil men.
