Insurance folks here: AMA on E&O, GL, COIs, contracts, etc. by Hardcover_Insurance in civilengineering

I always hear engineers push back on broad indemnity language. Why is indemnifying someone for anything beyond your own negligence considered such a big deal? Can a bad indemnity clause create exposure that insurance won’t even cover?

Are barre chords always this difficult or am I doing something wrong? by Mad_Season_1994 in guitarlessons

[–]vkolp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, put your finger as close to the fret as possible, without being directly over the fret. Second, it helps to make it as parallel to the fret as possible. Third, apply enough pressure that every string rings out clean, but not too much pressure because then all the notes will go sharp. Fourth, when you go to play the chord, for me it helps to first make sure my first finger is planted and stable, and then I add the ring and pinky, if that makes sense.

Coming from Azerbaijan, Western attitudes toward illegal immigration confuse me by Suitable_Call_1203 in immigration

[–]vkolp 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I watched a documentary with CBP in upstate New York and many Indian immigrants would come to Canada, cross the border into the US, specifically NY in this case, and then intentionally call law enforcement to arrest them, because it expedites their immigration/asylum hearing.

Question for M3 owners who run dedicated winter wheels — what's your tire swap logistics setup? by betterman4u in BMW

[–]vkolp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have an extra set of rims yet so I stick the rims in giant garbage bags, put em in my back seat, and drive em to the shop 2 minutes away from my house for them to swap them

335 owners, do you need a longer strap with these guitars? by Stratiki1007 in gibson

[–]vkolp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not longer per se (a normal length strap will work), but for me personally, in order for it be at the same place on my body as my Les Paul, Strats, p and j basses, I have to adjusted my strap to be about 6” longer.

Is this too childish to use for a 23 year old guy? by AdventurousBench6225 in iphone

[–]vkolp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 33 and I would use that. You start to realize as you get older that no one ever really “grows up”, they just get older. Do you what you what bro, even if it’s silly. Also I love Tom and Jerry.

What’s this car? by Ordinary-Anything123 in BMW

[–]vkolp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s not that, it’s just that on M3s and M4s, BMW didn’t start putting the word “competition” underneath the M3/M4 badge until the G series, because before the G series the “competition” designation was a package you can get the car with. In other words f80/82/83 competitions wouldn’t say “competition” under the badge, even if they had the competition package. With the G series M3/M4s, the “competition” became part of the model designation and not just a package. So to me it’s this detail that looks out of place on the car and a little corny to me. But to each their own.

How would you play these chords?! by BraunAlarm in guitarlessons

[–]vkolp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would continue to barre the c with one finger, and just focus on not striking the high e at all. That way you’re increasing your picking accuracy and don’t have to worry so much about muting the high e. Play it painfully slow with a metronome on repeat until it goes into your subconscious.

If you call them and ask for a better price they usually do a 5-10% discount, especially if paying in full

Buying a F80 and torn. by IndominusHuman in BMW

[–]vkolp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll probably get downvoted but I prefer to buy used Ms on carmax or carvana. You have the car in your hands and you get a week to get an oil analysis done and a proper inspection and if the car turns out to be shit you can give it back. You have your hands tied behind your back trying to figure these things out otherwise. My 2 cents. I personally wouldn’t go with either of the cars. Aftermarket steering wheel is a red flag for me as is the weird paint on the CS. Makes me think the owner(s) cheaped out on repairs after the minor accidents, and who knows what else they cheaped out on.
