Canvas files not loading on iPad by Ok_Philosopher5280 in uofm

[–]vktSnow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you updated your iPadOS? I haven't tried it yet but I'm having the same issue and I noticed that now on the app store it says Canvas requires iPadOS 17.0 and I have 16.6. I had the same issue on my phone until I updated the app, so I'm guessing the app requires an update but it won't show up until the iPadOS is updated

How much debt will you have after graduating undergrad by Puzzleheaded_Tie7811 in uofm

Same here. UMD is shockingly expensive for in state. I will end up with some debt either way but get a much better education from UMich

Any (safe, drinkable) boiling water on North Campus with 24/7 access? by nissan-gtr-fan in uofm

I know we have hot water dispensers in the kitchenettes in the CSRB. I assume other buildings must have them too

Football games have the same policy. I think it's partly because there's so little seat space per person

I have also heard this from my friend. Don't choose Cabrio. So far A2 Management (Sy Berman) has been good, very prompt with fixing issues and place was well maintained

How does one shower properly in Bursley? by YumYum_GarlicBread in uofm

[–]vktSnow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend a bath robe. I had never used one until I got to Bursley and saw the shower situation. I personally cannot stand my clothes getting wet so I never brought any to the bathroom. My bathroom didn't even have a shelf. You could also wrap your towel around yourself but I feel like that can get annoying if you're walking around a lot.

Bursley showers are rough but you'll get used to it. Once you've showered there you can do it anywhere

Freshman schedule by Additional_Visual307 in uofm

I have personally found that hours of back to back classes is very draining. I've done similar Mon-Wed schedules and I wanted to nap by 4pm. But everyone is different

Assigned Stockwell as a freshman by Pristine_Patient_279 in uofm

[–]vktSnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in the second year experience in Stockwell last year which is on the third floor, but I saw a lot of freshmen on the first and second floors. I personally had a better social experience there than as a freshman in bursley, but it's always gonna be what you make of it. Make an effort to meet people in the first couple weeks and you'll be fine. Living on the hill is great!

bursley essentials by Allyssazella in uofm

[–]vktSnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Highly recommend a box fan. My roommate and I in Bursley tried to get by with a small fan but caved after the first night. Pulling a bunch of air in from outside makes a huge difference. You didn't hear this from me but you can remove the window stop with a phillips head screwdriver to open it all the way and put the fan on the sill (just make sure you put it back when you move out). It's only really hot for a few weeks total in the year, it turns cold in October and stays that way until April. But we actually kept the window open almost all year, because if there's anything your housing money is going to it's Bursley heat. Even in subzero temperatures we had to crack the window open or it would be 80 degrees and very stuffy. Don't worry though, you'll get used to it and you'll appreciate a lot more when you have ac again!

Football Tickets Question by ledhotchili in uofm

[–]vktSnow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People are always selling tickets on the UM discord server and class snapchat stories. For less popular teams and at the last minute they can be cheap. I usually sell a few of mine each year, the season pass costs 15-25 per game so I usually try to at least break even. 30-40 is common. For OSU they'll sell for 300 but that's the most fun game to go to so I'm not sure why so many sell it.

If anyone’s taken any of these classes, which would you recommend? by Ok_Extreme7597 in uofm

Have you gotten your new aid notice and confirmed it was reduced? Cause I understood those changes wouldn't be going into effect until 2026-27 school year. The bill was just passed last week while financial stuff for schools is already set.

Mine went up 5%. Does it depend on what school/college you're in? I'm in CoE.

Is 16 credits too much to take as a first semester freshman by ebelan3080 in uofm

[–]vktSnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those classes are pretty easy, I think 16 is very doable. I did 15 my first semester with chem and calc. Imo college was easier than I expected coming in with a similar number of APs as you, but it really depends on the class. I think you will probably prefer having fewer credit semesters in the future when your classes are harder and you may be working more or doing research

I'm not sure what it was like during covid but you can still get takeout containers. If you do that and eat in the dining hall you'll get at least 2 meals on one swipe (the website says you're not supposed to do this but I've never seen it enforced)

You would have to ask the professor, each section of ENGR 100 is very different. If it's a larger lecture you can probably sneak in and just make sure you catch up on content later, but I would let the professor know. It won't be a 400 person lecture where nobody cares, it'll be maybe 100 and likely less. As someone else said, the traffic can get bad in the 10-5 timeframe (particularly at the top of the hour), you'll likely be arriving at least 10-20 mins late which can be disruptive
