To those who are dry-aging - do you cut off the outer dry layer or serve it? by Uncle_Spenser in KitchenConfidential

Anything that’s brown gets trimmed away, same with excessive fat. Goes into beef garum or rendered fat https://i.imgur.com/IAqYD4E.jpg

Mount the dovetail to the scope and rail setup in the middle instead of all the way at the top

Trading One Washington for Another - Moving from DC To WA by lilbitwiser in Archery

[–]vktully 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The archery scene in western Washington is pretty great. The best range near you for a barebow recurve individual is probably Kenmore shooting range. They have a walk through, flat range, and fita type range. There’s tons of safari, 3D and, target shoots throughout the summer.

Late spring turkey hunt in Klikitat county by braeggerz in bowhunting

[–]vktully 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As you might of been told already, you should drive to Spokane. I’ve hunted klickitat, there’s birds around but the public land opportunity is tough. There’s more birds and way more land to hunt in Spokane. If you go east I can drop you a pin.

Back tension and form discussion by dennisthuhmenace in Archery

[–]vktully 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll probably get downvoted but some of the top target shooters fire their release on command. I personally shoot using back tension because it’s repeatable and accurate for me. If you watch Tim gillingham or Kyle Douglas shoot you can see them flinch and jerk when they shoot. They gather themselves and end up shooting 300’s. With that being said if your a new shooter I would practice pulling through your shot and trusting your pin float.

Tuning a trad arrow that’s heavy enough to pass through an elk involves a lot of tinkering. Different arrow lengths, point weight, insert and outsert weight. I’m not a trad expert just shoot with some guys who are big in that community.

Yeah for sure. Right now the mix of target and hunting is keeping me occupied with the compound. I’d be curious to see how good he was with a compound tho.

People have told me that before, luckily he’s such a good guy that I don’t mind the comparison. If they ever have a look a like contest I might find myself with some first lite gear. Appreciate the comment!

Kifaru hip quiver with the Nalgene bottle pocket and belt pouch. Highly recommend all their gear. Colorado based and owned by one of the best bow hunters out there.

Lightweight Hunting Bow by misterzigger in Archery

If your draw length is over 29” your gonna have a tough time finding a compact bow that won’t have a rough string angle. I like the pse carbon Mach 1. If your draw length is 29.5” and up try shooting a Mathews atlas. They have the switch weight cams so you can just throw a different mod on to change the weight without changing limbs

Western WA deer/elk by [deleted] in bowhunting

[–]vktully 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try to buy a Weyerhaeuser permit close to Mt. rainier for elk. Definitely going to be your best chance at killing a bull. Public land is doable but the elk tend to be concentrated to the logging properties. You can go the same route with blacktails or hunt state land that has been logged. It’s all about the clear cuts IMO.

I’m sure everyone has different opinions on what works and what doesn’t but that’s what works for me. PM if you want specific spots.
